Corolla’s have come a long way!

2020 Toyota Corolla
I just leased a 2020 Corolla SE Sedan with the Premium Package and Audio Plus w/ JBL. I already love it. I upgraded from a 2016 Scion iM and the improvements are instantly noticeable.
Driving Dynamics:
I’ll start off by saying the iM handles very very well. The thing lacking with that car was the power. It has the 1.8L 4-cylinder (still found in the 2020 L, LE and XLE Corolla’s) that … gives you 137hp. It left a lot to be desired. The new 2.0L 4-cylinder in the SE and XSE Corolla’s is a huge upgrade. It gives you enough power to confidently jump out into traffic and to easily get up to highway speeds. Also, the new CVT has a physical launch gear that gives the Corolla more pep when accelerating from a stop. The new Corolla, now being built on the TNGA platform, also handles very nicely around corners. I would say the iM may have felt a bit more planted, but the new Corolla does the job very well.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 (TSS):
Just, wow! Having the new suite of safety features that’s standard on EVERY trim of the 2020 Corolla is a life-changer. When enabling adaptive cruise w/ lane tracing, you barely even have to be there. Although recommended for highway use only, I have used it driving home from work on long straight streets. As long as there is a vehicle in front of you, it will come to complete stops, resume and even stay in your lane through intersections when there are no lines (because it’s following the vehicle in front of you). All you have to do is keep a hand (or knee lol) touching the steering wheel so it thinks you’re paying attention. Of course, TSS is used as an aid and is not a replacement for safe and attentive driving.
Interior Features, Quality, and Comfort:
The interior of the new Corolla is beautiful. High-quality soft-touch materials line most of the entire cabin to make this vehicle feel a lot more premium than its class would suggest. Everything is laid out very well and is easy to use. Also, the list of features you get in any new Corolla is very nice. Standard in the SE is a nice 8-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay (no Android Auto but I couldn’t care less), all auto one-touch up and down windows, a 4.2” color multi-informational display in the gauge cluster, sport cloth seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic climate control, and more. Then, with the packages in my particular Corolla, you get push-button start with Smart Key access, a moonroof, a premium JBL audio system that sounds absolutely beautiful, Remote Connect (remote engine start from a smart phone, smart watch, or even an Alexa device, and yes they all work) and Blind Spot Monitoring. The seats are very comfortable places to spend time in, although I have not been in the vehicle for over an hour straight, yet. The car is also very quiet inside while driving and it is very smooth over bumps for having a sport-tunes suspension.
My overall opinion on the car:
This car is nice...in every way really. I couldn’t be happier with it. The LE with the Premium Package should satisfy most customers. But if you want more power upgrade to an SE at least. If you want top-of-the-line, the XSE is the way to go. The XLE would be good for your grandmother who wants nice features but doesn’t care about acceleration. However, really with any trim of the new Corolla; you can’t go wrong.
