2025 Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid
We've been mostly Honda owners and currently own a 2019 Accord. After looking at 3-row hybrids and plug-ins, we narrowed it down to a Grand Highlander, Volvo XC 90 plug in and a Kia Sorento PHEV Prestige. The Highlander was nice but a little boring on the inside and out, and with the recall, hard to find. The Volvo is very nice but the third row is very tight and at 80k a bit too rich … for my taste. Then I tried the Kia, which started out being third on our list, and boy was I surprised! The interior is much roomier than I was expecting, the features list is long and it drives incredibly well. The dash is like a glass cockpit that's all digital with touch screens. The standard safety features are best in class. And the styling is edgy and much more bold than the Toyota or Volvo (the Volvo is like classic Chanel while the Kia seemed more Jason Wu). The clincher was that for the money, the Kia offered tremendous value.
After several weeks of ownership, my only complaints are the radio/hvac controls are too sensitive and I often accidentally push the buttons while reaching for the volume knob. The ride while smooth is definitely on the firm side. The garage buttons don't work when the car is off. But other than that, I'm starting to think that Kia has not only caught up with the rest like Toyota but surpassed it. In the first two weeks of ownership with 700 miles of driving, I only filled up the tank once. I haven't seen a lot of 2024 or 2025 Sorentos on the road but this may be the smartest choice out there.
