Used 2012 Toyota Tundra Consumer Reviews
Overhyped toyota garbage
I actually went or should I say was suckered into a new tunra. 2012 what a mistake. If you here people talking about reliability and resale I suggest you RUN and never turn back. I don't sell cars so resale should never be an issue. The toyota is like a pregnant 2002 dodge ram. It's ugly and the more you look at it the uglier it gets. The finish inside is poor crap and I couldn't believe that this what was suppose to be superior build quality. The seats were uncomfortable. the guages are small and a pukey orange colour and they are sey in too far. The tonks truck control knobs for the air are a total joke.I could go on but a person with normal vision will see what I'm talking about.
Warning: rats love to eat the soy wiring!
I bought my truck new in August 2012, and until November 2017, I would have given it 5 stars. I've driven it 303,000 mechanically trouble-free miles since then, and it still rides and drives exactly as it did when new. I've been fortunate in that the problematic air pump system hasn't given me any issues; maybe because I live in Florida and it doesn't come on unless the air outside is below a certain temperature, so it's not activated as much here by the ECU? Just a guess. Anyhow, while on vacation on the West Coast in a very urban area, a rat got under the intake and ate the wiring of a knock sensor...this in just one night. The truck went into limp mode, and about $1000 later at a nearby Toyota dealership, it was fixed 3 days later. And a few years ago at home, parked outside one night, in a single night a rodent of some sort began to make a nest under the hood and ate enough of the wiring harness to ruin it--a $10,000 (ten thousand dollar) repair. And the part they put back in it is just as susceptible to being eaten by rodents as what they took out. Maybe I'm just unlucky and the rodents randomly chose my truck but in 2017 they passed on a 1988 MR2 parked in the same driveway, and last week they passed on a 2000 Mercury and a 1972 AMC Hornet parked in the same driveway; all the other vehicles were lower to the ground and much easier to access. So at least in my case I'm blaming Toyota's "environmentally-friendly" soy-based wiring, which they started to use in Tundras in the 2009 model year. So for now, it's back to my 2011 Land Cruiser (2011 was the last year for petroleum-based wiring on those; much less favorable, apparently, to rats' palates), and my 1993 Land Cruiser. If you're looking at a used Tundra, in my opinion a well-maintained 2008 is your best bet, or maybe a 2007 as long as it's not an early one.

reliable
owned one for 11 years:reasonable on gas for a truck. rides not too bumpy, good sound insulation from other vehicles and road noise, very little rust noticeable, performs good in acceleration with the 4.6 , no oil consumption between oil changes at least not obvious, very insignificant and i do my own...used synthetic from day one of ownership....now for the dislike...hate the cartridge for oil filter, nuisance, s/b spin on, rear passenger window making a noise when putting up and it was rarely used , with expensive windshield wipers they still make a lot of noise, grinding sound on the glass...that's about it...rear wheel drive only
