Used 2019 Toyota Tacoma Consumer Reviews
2019 Taco Purchase
Decided to keep my 1999 Tacoma TRD off road V-6 4WD which has been a stellar performer but bought a used 2019 Tacoma with 4600 miles from a Chevy dealer because it was a great deal. And because the old 1999 has a rusty frame (Toyota refused to fix it) and is not the best for longer trips. Apparently the first owner didn't care for the Tacoma (or the Toyota Dealer) and bought a new Silverado. So far I like the new truck but can appreciate the comments mentioned here by others about the constant shifting (my 1999 is a 5 speed stick shift) and the difficult cab entry (I'm 6' 1"). The new truck is a TRD Pro V6 4WD extd. cab. So far I like it but it is a lot bigger than my 1999 and will take some time to get used to. I bought a new Celica in 1981. It was the best car I ever owned and so have purchased Toyota ever since. Well now it's Nov 29, 2021 and the new Tacoma has 15,000 miles on it. It stays mostly in the garage since I'm still driving the old 1999 Tacoma. It has 165000 miles and refuses to quit. On the bright side the dealer I bought the 2019 Tacoma from almost 3 years ago just offered me $2,000 more than I payed for it. I also just made a hunting trip to Michigan with the 2019 Tacoma (approx 1600 miles round trip) with no problems.) Still a big fan. Now it's June 2025. Still driving the 1999 Tacoma (just locally) and now 168,500 miles. Put on a new muffler and a rusted thru brake line. Also had an engine sensor I couldn't fix myself but a local car head figured it out. My 2019 Tacoma now has 29,000 miles and still no problems. Only changed the engine oil and filter. Everything else still original equipment.

Fantastic Truck
I love my truck! In 32 years I’ve had 2 Ford F-150’s and 2 Chevrolet Silverado’s and this new Tacoma is by far and away my favorite. I am a pipeline construction inspector and very often have to drive off-road, in out of the way places. Mud, rock and steep hills are my daily commute, this Tacoma handles it all like a champ! I couldn’t be happier with Toyota.

Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road 2019 is junk
I've owned a 1986 sr5 5 sp manual 4cyl, 2001 5 sp manual 4 cyl, 2009 5 sp manual 4cyl, 2013 6cyl auto and now a 2019 Trd Off road auto 6cyl. The 2019 is by far the biggest piece of junk I've ever owned. The truck looks good but that's where the goodness ends. The wind noise and the loud noise coming from underneath very time it shifts is unbearable. The transmission/motor WTF! My 2013 would shift like butter hardly noticeable. You can't drive the 2019 under 40 mph because if feels like it's constantly jerking Not violently but noticeable. Every time this truck shifts it hesitates then engages. Super noticeable. Pick up is so bad in this truck it's best to not pass unless your are near 4000 rpms, then it has some power. Taking any hill is a joke I live in a hilly area some grads as much at 18 percent. My 2013 would handle nicely shifting smoothly. Not the 2019, the freaken tach shoots to above 4 every time the truck downshifts. I can littlery put the accelerator to the floor and nothing happens, the truck goes nowhere the tach might spike, but the truck does not accelerate. I think people who don't mind this truck live in flat areas where the transmission failure isn't as noticeable. I knew before I bought the 2019 it shifted like a 4 cyl, but bought it anyway. That's on me. The vibration coming through the accelerator pedaI is the worst. It truly will put your foot to sleep. I constantly use cruise control so i don't have to keep my foot on the gas. The front end feels so loose when corning over 40 mph. The suspension is not stiff it feels like it's bouncing while corning when I hit any depression in the road. I've had it in for two 4 wheel alignments and it still pulls to the right. I bought this truck in late December 2019 and currently have 2600 miles on it. I can not wait to get rid of it. SUCH GARBAGE. It actually makes me angry to drive it. It sits in the garage most of the time. I drive my wife's car. Do not fall for the hype of Tacoma Resale. Just look how many 2016-2019 have been traded in with low miles. Never will I buy another Toyota product. Each generation has gotten slightly worse. Oh and changing the oil is a joke on the TRD Off Road. My only hope is for Nissan to really crush the updated Frontier coming in 2021. Or, I'll be forced to buy a CrossTrek. This opinion is coming from a guy who has owned Toyota trucks since 1986.

Great reliable truck - NOT for everyone.
I have to say this is my first truck ever...I used to commute in SUV type vehicles - Subarus, Acura, BMW, and Honda. If you after upscale interior - you will be most likely disappointed. All Toyota cars are designed to be reliable with limited gadgets that can pose reliability issue. Truck is solid and after 4000 miles I have nothing to complain. It takes a learning curve especially if you switch from large V8s and older tacos. The transmission is programmed for efficiency not speeding. Honestly, I am very thankful to our Japanese designers for doing so - I HATE to waste my money on gas. At 4000 miles, I have 21MPG average going to work through the crowded city. I learned to cooperate with transmission pressing the gas pedal only when I feel its shift - its a very pro-active drive! I can see how this truck can't be everybody preference - my wife who drives smaller BMW sedan, hates my truck.... The Tacoma has more than enough power to move its 2.5 Tons body BUT, what many do not understand, the top HP of 278HP is accomplished at 6000RPM. So next time you want power, just step on gas, rev the engine and Taco will "fly" My truck has ECT button that I can press when I truly need power and less downshifting. I used it twice and works exceptionally well, especially when driving on highway. Every dealer offers test drives so PLEASE do not get this puppy before trying it yourself - this car is NOT for everybody.....one of those love OR hate relationships with nothing in the middle....I truly love mine - just hand clayed and waxed it today. Happy and Safe driving!

2019 Toyota Tacoma access cab 4x4 2.7 liter auto
I had a 2009 Tacoma V6 4.0 liter and the head gasket failed at 136,000 miles so I choose this model due to the 4 cylinder being very reliable, it still has the old school key (no stupid key fob) and no crappy climate control. It's been great so far. The 4 cyl. is quick enough for me and great gas mileage. Super nice interior just enough options to keep you problem free and comfortable. The only negatives are no key lock on passenger side, Toyota should be ashamed of themselves. The trans does hunt for gears. Still a great truck!
