Toyota is slipping; NOT worth $45k

2011 Toyota Sienna Limited 7-Passenger 4dr Minivan AWD (3.5L 6cyl 6A)

We purchased the 2011 Limited AWD with the "premium" package in April. First impressions were that it was pleasant/ unoffensive, about what you'd expect from a minivan. The transmission is surprisingly quick to downshift for passing and shifts smoothly. However, the cheap materials, especially the fake wood (which they should get rid of and stop pretending it's fancy!) and the shoddy stitching on the leather, are very disappointing. I recommend getting the LE and save $20k to upgrade your kitchen or buy a Miata. When I got a tire replacement (see below), a lug nut was cross-threaded and ripped the bolt off. I have not had a major problem like some, but these are a sign of poor quality!

Questioning Toyota's Reliability Reputation

I purchased the van new and it now has about 106,300 km. This van is now about 4.5 years old and in the last 7 month, I've had the following problems; (1) air conditioner compress had to be replaced, (2) starter motor failed, (3) Driver power seat failed. Other than these problems, I really enjoyed driving this van.

Sienna 2011 has brake problems!

I have been a loyal Toyota customer since I'd first started driving. Therefore, I have bought many Toyota vehicles for personal use and work. I'd just gotten a new Sienna. We have not driven more than 3000 miles before we realized that the car shakes while we went down the hill and try to apply the brake. I took it to the dealer and was told that the brake rotor has overheated because this car is heavier, and IT IS NOT A GUARANTEE ITEM. I was so disappointed because this is a brand new car, and I was told that there is nothing they could do because it's Wear and Tear. Wear & Tear with 3000 miles? I understand if I had driven many miles and car had heavy loads, but not in this case.

One of the blunders I made

As if the buying experience was less haunting, the new sienna that I bought makes be regret every minute I drive it. One of the blunders I made when I didn't test drive other minivans before buying the Sienna just because it had AWD. I wish I listened to my friends who bought the Odyssey. The engine is so noisy, especially during acceleration, sometimes during turning quickly, the steering wheel seems non- responsive and of course it is a little too big to make driving fun. The acceleration is not always the same sometimes it is good while sometimes, it doesn't shift to the next gear. The dash looks like cheap plastic. I have been in the driver's seat only and I do not like it.

I took a month to compare the Odyssey EX and Sienna LE and found that EX lacks features that are standard in the LE. The only advantage on the EX is the second row middle seat but I thought how many days practically I will use it while I will use the blue tooth, backup camera, USB interface, Roof Rails, one touch windows (back seat), XM radio, Sun shield, Home link etc on a daily basis. Also the third row seats in Odyssey is smaller than Sienna and I started getting back ache within a 7 mile test ride (my wife was driving) while I was able to sit comfortable in Sienna with ample leg room (I am 6.1" with 230 pounds). Sienna LE comes out to $3500 cheaper than EX.
