Buyer beware! Sienna tires don't last!
Make sure to put money aside if you buy a Sienna! At 13,000 miles I was told I needed new tires on the front. By 15,000 I definitely needed new tires! Toyota shuffled me back and forth to corporate, Firestone, and back to the dealer. At no point did Toyota ever take responsibility for anything! Firestone was great, but Toyota was definitely lacking (and I had followed their maintenance regime to the letter!). So, get a good deal if you plan to buy a Sienna because you will probably be getting a new set of tires within the first year! Crazy! P.S. They also "corrected" the alignment--even though it is impossible to adjust the rear alignment without shims! Seriously Toyota?
So far so good
Really like the versatility of the Base Sienna. Removable seats and the folding 3-Row is a great feature. Runs great for a minivan. The 4 cyl engine (hard to get in the Los Angeles area) has enough pep to get us around town. Strangely, when I was looking into the jack compartment in the back of the van, it seems there was a big motor there which I think could only be for the sliding doors but this van does not have auto sliding doors. does this mean it can be upgraded?

One step forward, half step back.
For reference, we owned a '07 Odyssey Touring, test drove the previous gen Sienna & road tripped ~1000mi in this '11. The new Sienna has a significantly improved drivetrain. The engine is strong & passing is easier than in the Odyssey. The steering is accurate though lifeless. And the brakes are better than the Honda's. In terms of driving, the new Sienna & the Odyssey are equal & both are far better than the last gen Sienna. Everything else, however, seems not as good. The plastics are about the cheapest I've encountered outside a rental car. The road noise is far worse than the last gen's. The 2nd row lazy-boy seats are a useless gimmick. The backup camera's display is microscopic.
We love our first sienna!
I got this base model Sienna for my wife on her birthday. We've owned it for two weeks. I emailed and called different dealerships and even tried the Costco Auto Program. We got this base model Sienna for around $500 UNDER INVOICE! Don't be scared & embarrassed to negotiate, THANKS TO EDMUNDS.COM. I like the reliability of Toyota, i don't care about all the bad publicity. We own a 2005 Corolla as well and we only had to change the battery, tires and brakes. That's it. This Sienna is daddy friendly. It is so quiet that you will not even realize the engine is running. I don't know why everyone else bought the 6 cyl when the 4 cyl CAN DO THE JOB! i have 4 kids and they love it!
Toyota GPS - Do not purchase
The installed Toyota GPS, while fun to use with it's large touch screen is DVD based, and the disk provided with my NEW Sienna was two years out of date... does not even have my street included (5 years old). AND... Toyota wants a ridiculous $250 for an updated disk! You can purchase a much better GPS, more features, and lifetime map updates for a little more than half that. Just stick it to the face of the Toyota display... Come on Toyota - get reasonable. A NEW car should at least have a current verions disk... and be provided with updates during warranty.
