Used 2021 Toyota Highlander Consumer Reviews
Glitchy tech, useless 3rd row,
Pro: smooth ride, good breaks and steering, Toyota reliability Cons: exterior is not good looking. Interior feels cramped/claustrophobic, could not connect new phone to the car (tried blue tooth and cable without success).

"It's a Toyota"
I've lost count of the times someone recommended buying a Highlander. I finally caved in July 2023 to purchase a CPO 21 XLE. After my brief 10-minute test drive, I decided it was a good car for us. Here we are 6 months into ownership and I want to throw it in the ocean! CONS: Noisy! drive highway speeds of over 40 mph and you will hear everything! The dealership says that it is normal. I spent $1,500 on Michialen Cross Climate tires, and it's the loudest car I have ever driven. Useless 3rd row! I knew the 3rd row was small and "reserved for kids" but it is useless. No rear anchors for a car seat so you use one top tether or the seat belt. But no one tells you that the belts DO NOT BUCKLE with a car seat or booster seat. So who sits back there because our 10-year-old can't fit! Uncomfortable seats! I am not sure if it is just the XLE trim but my goodness I might as well be sitting on a stone. There is zero padding for your rear and legs; enjoy feeling EVERY bump on the road! Rear camera. Get used to looking back like the olden days because if you have to use the rear camera, it better be a well-lit day. At night, you can barely see out of it (again dealership says that it is normal.) Lack of charging ports. Having kids and taking road trips was one of the many reasons to get a Highlander, but if someone is in the 3rd row, they are SOL for charging. There is NOTHING back there! Don't even get me started on the lack of interior storage. The small cargo space with the 3rd row up I knew, but you want to bring little knick-knacks with you, there is no place to store them. It'll slide everywhere then we get to hear "I can't reach it!" Our particular Highlander has been in and out of the dealership for an all-new brake system (pads, rotors, pins) and other small things like the road noise. The engine disabling after remote start is annoying but I guess that is for safety. The gas mileage is way below the advertised as well and it does NOT hold its value. (Lost $8k in 6 months) I guess what I like about it is the responsiveness, the handling, and the bright headlights for the night. Toyota's safety sense works well and having the app to remote start anywhere is handy. (Don't even bother with the fob. You have to be very close and press the lock button 3 times. If your timing is off by just a little bit, it does not work.) So yeah, it's a Toyota, it's nothing special and for me, it's the most impractical "family SUV" on the market. Due to the extremely uncomfortable seats and the road noise, it sits in our driveway as an expensive paperweight. As soon as I can trade out of it, I will be.

It was love at first sight!
We went cruising car lots on a Sunday afternoon to get a feel of what we wanted for our next car. As soon as I saw the Toyota Highlander Xle, I knew it was a top contender. We scheduled a test drive a few days later and was not disappointed, it is as luxurious as it looks. Reviews spoke well of this vehicle also and safety is top notch. I've never owned a Toyota before but I may be hooked now, very happy with ours :)

29 year old highlander owner!
Its a pretty smooth ride i like it but im not totally satisfied with it i went little over my budget to get the jbl sound system real leather and somewhat better looking interior ,20mpg combined! ok here are my complaints biggest one is something i wasn’t aware off before purchasing, lack of acoustic windows driving it on a highway its embarrassing how bad it is if its windy out i just wanna cry that my 4k trade in was alot quieter if it rains hard if feels like ur being attacked it’s dramatic inside the cabin like it bothers me so much but i may get over it , fit and finish not very good , you put that volume up things are shaking and squeaking again something i don’t expect after spending all that money , 8 inch screen and backup camera are bad like graphics ! its a good car but if ur getting close to 50 msrp maybe looking for a luxury would make you happier Update… sold it after 18months cuz it wasn’t for me
