mold, wet carpet

After 2yrs purchased the car, I have a problem now that the water leaked inside the car. When it rains, all the carpet is wet, especially the driver seat's carpet is soaked with water. I removed all the carpet out to clean, now the car has the mold smell, every morning my 2 sons sneezed (allergy from the strong smell of the mold in the car). It happened last week when it rains, I started to pay more attention about it and double check why it leaks in the car. I can't find any solutions and it rains again in the last 3 days, my car is getting worst so I took it to the local Toyota dealer service for them to check. I found out that my car is not the first one that has a problem, and after the diagnosed they'll fixed it by replaced the whole car carpet. After a week that they fixed my car, the car is now still have that mold smell and my sons still have allergy every time they're in the car. I'll sell it as soon as I pay off the car. I suggest anyone to review it carefully, so you won't run into this problem at Toyota. I live in Hayward, California. This review on March 7, 2016.

Reliability is Questionable

2013 Toyota Highlander Limited 4dr SUV (3.5L 6cyl 5A)

I bought my Toyota Highlander Limited to replace my VW Touareg, which was getting up there in mileage, and to get something with more modern features, such as BlueTooth and a backup camera. My main goals were to get an SUV with great reliability, excellent safety, modern features, and space. At first, it was perfect. It has an excellent sound system, a power liftgate, great steering, and a relatively silent cabin ride. About 2 years into ownership, I bought it used in 2016 with 12k miles on it, the sunroof leaked every time it rained or I took it through the car wash. I took it to multiple repair centers and got no solution. I decided to just roll with it since it rarely rains here until I had another issue; the hose connecting the windshield wiper fluid to the sprayers. Just over $300 in repairs since the hose runs from the top of the car to the bottom. A few days ago, with just under 50k miles on it, a rattle started coming from the engine. The pump that cools the engine needs a replacement, which will cost $3,000 to repair!! I'm considering getting a new car, but it definitely won't be a VW or a Toyota.

Mixed Review

Less than a week ago I bought a 2013 Highlander Limited with no options or accessories. I rated it three stars in all categories because I've had it for only a few days. The good: Exterior is up to Toyota's relatively high standards...fit and finish appear to be good. Interior room is good for four adults. Engine power is adequate for the weight of the vehicle but not superb. The bad: Entry space at every door is too small. Either the doors don't open wide enough or the seats (even in their most rearward positions) don't allow enough room to comfortably enter the vehicle. The interior has way too many plastic surfaces for a $38K vehicle (more below).

Wheel Bearing

2013 Toyota Highlander SE 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 5A)

Took my new Highlander (with 2300 miles on it) on vacation to Hilton Head Island - after arrival, started hearing a roaring noise from left rear tire area - stopped by Toyota dealership and they discovered the wheel bearing needed to be replaced. Had to delay my scheduled return home for a couple of days, thus putting me into the midst of a tropical storm. Very inconvenient and frightening. After all the research I conducted before purchasing a new car, I was shocked that I became stranded while on vacation in my brand new car. Needless to say, I feel uncomfortable about driving this car for a long distance again.

So, a year and seven days ago I traded my 2010 Toyota Venza in for a 2013 Toyota Highlander. I got the highlander for easier access for my family. Its a good car and that's it. It handles pleasantly, but its no where near fun to drive. Handles great in snow. I've had no technical or mechanical Issues only build quality issues. Today I tried moving the second row captain chair on the drivers side foward to put something in the third row and the lever on the top of the seat back completely came of. I was not pulling hard at all. I am extremely disappointed and my Toyota dealership WILL fix this, I would expect better from a Toyota. The interior is already lower quality than my past Toyotas.
