So we ordered a donut-type spare tire through the Toyota dealer. They went to install it today and the storage area for the spare, is not deep enough to close the floor to the flat position after … installation. We did some research and found that this is an issue others have reported. I checked the spare tire that Modernspare.com has hoping it might fit. However, they have a notation at the bottom of the description saying the following: “**The Crown Signia has what appears to be a spare tire storage location under the cargo floor. Unfortunately, this space does not have adequate depth to store a spare tire and allow the cargo floor to close properly. The Modern Spare storage case was designed specifically for vehicles with storage challenges. The kit option with the storage case is the recommended kit for your Signia. The entire kit is stored inside the case and will maintain a low 6″ profile when laid flat in the main cargo area.”
I have a hard time believing that such a nicely designed car by Toyota would have a storage place for a spare, but did not design it to actually fit in the space properly. Even the service folks at the dealership were surprised. Very disappointing! They offered to just send it back, however, that would leave us with a little patch kit that would not help if a tire got shredded.
