Put down the deposit 4 years ago. Took delivery in May and going through the lemon law process right now with my state. It's been nothing short of a nightmare and I legitimately don't think they tested this vehicle at all. The list of issues is too long to state, but here were the largest ones: - Scary vibration at highway speeds. Drivetrain has been replaced twice - Red screen of death 3 times - Tonneau cover didn't work at delivery. Told to make a service appointment. Took 4 weeks to get fixed. Broken again 1 week later - Side trim for tonneau cover came off on both sides - Bulging button on the trunk. Like a bubble. Suspect water intrusion. The Close button doesn't work - Interior trim is warped and bubbled - Pedal issue (that everyone had) - Time around windshield (holding windshield and sunroof in place) looks moldy and uneven - Alignment was horrible at pickup. Had to get it realigned locally. Again, there are countless other issues. Owning this car is essentially a full time job dealing with Tesla's non-existent and abysmal customer service and trying to get the car rebuilt piece by piece. But it's wack-a mole. There are always countless things wrong. In terms of driving, it is fast as hell. Parking is very hard. The cameras appear to be misaligned. And you get tones of reactions (from thumbs up to middle fingers....plenty of middle fingers). I can't help but feel like I was taken advantage of by Tesla and they knew this vehicle was not even close to being customer ready.

Happy with my Cybertruck

3 months and 5k miles later, I am thoroughly enjoying the driving experience and utility of my Cybertruck. I am an owner of a medium sized electrical contracting company, husband, and father 2. The cybertruck has excelled at light duty work during the day as well as being a family hauler. My truck spent a week in the Service Center with a faulty part with less than 300 miles on the odometer. Other than that I have had zero issues. I load the bed & frunk with construction material on a daily basis and the truck does what I need it to do for work. It’s loaded with tons of tech and features to keep the kids entertained on longer trips. As a person who has never owned an EV or Tesla but has owned pick-up trucks for 15+ years, I am very pleased and do not miss my ICE pick-ups at all. Admittedly, I do miss the multi-function tailgate of my last truck at times. The biggest negative I have is the exterior. The stainless steel is difficult to clean and does get a ton of fingerprints. I do not wish to wrap the exterior as it is not exactly cheap. That coupled with the week it spent in the service center knocks the rating down from 5 to 4 stars.

Best all around vehicle sold today. Get in line!

Likes: 1.) Steer by wire combined with rear wheel steer needs to be on every large vehicle. Ease of maneuverability is better than any vehicle on sale today. 2.) Adaptive air suspension corners flat while providing excellent ride quality loaded or not. Low ground clearance for entry/exit yet 14-16" for offroading. 3.) Crazy power while still being efficient. One pedal driving. 4.) Lots of cabin and cargo room for the slightly smaller full size truck footprint. Great for parking garages, urban driving and trail riding. 5.) Covered vault (aka bed) is great for hauling items to keep them out of the weather and secured from theft. 6.) Sound system bumps 7.) 9.6kW of onboard power for the (4)120V and (1)240V outlets. Like bringing a silent generator everywhere you go. 8.) Powered frunk is great for a golf bag with woods, long gun bags, groceries, tool boxes or to sit in. 9.) Being able to use Sentry mode and see people looking at my truck from my phone. I usually make it fart to make them laugh. 10.) 2500 lb cargo and 11,000 lb towing 11.) 8yr 150k miles battery & drive unit warranty and basically no maintenance. 12.) L-track in the bed and 4 rooftop bar mounting points 13.) Tesla app as key 14.) Probably the safest vehicle on the road Dislikes: 1.) Wish it had a digital rear view mirror 2.) Still waiting on FSD to become available (early adopter pains) 3.) Fingerprints on the stainless 4.) No place for a spare tire under the truck or bed. It has to take up room in the bed. 5.) Some NVH opportunities with the interior trim 6.) Highway towing with large trailers is not for the time sensitive person but towing low speed or around town is effortless. 7.) Makes driving other vehicles unbearable

Better Options Out There

After the enthusiasm wears off and you get tired of people asking about it, you realize you just spent over $100k on a Cars and Coffee car. Steering is fantastic and some of the options such as air suspension make it fun. But in reality, there are better options for EV Trucks such as the Rivian and Lightning. If you want to be seen and treated like a Celebrity get the Cybertruck. If you want an EV Truck get the competition.

What Edmonds Got Wrong about this Truck

ODR, 01/23/2025

Highlights: Steer by Wire - The number one thing the Edmonds reviewers got wrong on this truck. I don't want to drive/own another vehicle that has steer by wire. The truck is easy to maneuver, and yes, the steering feels responsive. To execute a full turn at slow speeds is max 270 degrees of steering wheel rotation, and fine movement is better than any truck I've driven. At highway speed it tracks, and fine movement is not "jittery" as they describe. Supervised FSD - Yes, it's on the truck now and is another feature I'm not going to own a vehicle w/o. Long drives and navigating cities that I'm not familiar with is where it shines. The attention monitoring system is solid, and I'm more attentive while its in use. The system is weighted to deter phone usage while driving, and if you check your phone for more than a moment, it will disengage. Basically, pay attention, and the vehicle will do a competent job of navigating a variety of environments. Ride - Another winner on this truck. My father who is an old school long time F150/F250 owner, who hates EVs btw, couldn't say enough about the quality of the ride. Its the one factor that won him over. The air suspension, and its adjustability is a plus. When you park, it can lower to "entry mode" making it easier for people to get in and out of it but can raise to 16" of ground clearance when you need it. You also have things like offroad settings to play with ride/height/power to wheel distribution/locking differentials. I don't do overlanding or off-roading, but it works fine on washed out roads in our rural county. Infotainment and in car software systems - This is another head scratcher from Edmonds. CarPlay? Systems like CarPlay are Band-Aids for bad in car systems. Rivian and Tesla both get this right and make something like CarPlay/android auto pointless. Once you're in a modern vehicle software system, you'll understand. Another feature that isn't commonly discussed is Service Mode. You have access to a detailed diagnostic/service menu for the vehicle with code history and system information that just doesn't exist on other vehicles w/o dealer diagnostic tool. It is an advanced menu, and I strongly suggest being careful when in it, but its there for those of you who want more information. Basically, you get a modern in car operating system, something that only one other truck comes close to, Rivian. The truck is also going to constantly update adding or improving features over the life of it. The Bed - Its bigger than what people think, and you can put full size sheets of plywood or sheetrock in it. The metal automatic lockable tonneau cover is best in class for all trucks, EV or ICE, tie downs are plentiful. There are also a nice built in light bars, so you have great visibility at night. I would like a step-up feature on the tailgate. The "reaching over the side" issue isnt the problem people make it out to be. I can't reach into the back of most jacked up trucks from the ground. Towing - Range isn't great while towing but fits my use case (less than 150 miles round trip). I wouldn't buy an EV truck if towing is your primary purpose for the truck. Where is shines is handling while towing. It's easy to forget you are pulling a trailer or boat with this truck. Another, you have to try it to understand. Sound System - A+, might be on the best stock in car sound systems I've been in. Comfort - Seats are comfortable, head and leg room are good for all passengers. 6'6" and up starts to get close to the roof. Controls - The most common actions you would take, adjusting climate, volume, input, wipers, navigation, etc. can be done from the steering wheel or with voice (which is best in class). I rarely use the screen while driving. I understand why Edmunds might say everything is done on screen because of lack of familiarity with the controls when doing a short test. Cons - Rear view mirror - Tesla should have included a digital rear view mirror. This was a big miss. I've already installed an aftermarket one. However, its not for the reasons you might think. Highway driving is the one place where I miss the rearview mirror, and there is a rear-view mirror that is present on the main screen, but its not detailed enough (they have addressed this in recent updates). Its not an issue for backing the truck, maneuvering is tight places, and hooking up to a trailer because you get a full screen feed from the front/back and side cameras, along with tesla vision overhead view when doing these things. Its better visibility than traditional mirrors. Tesla/Elon/EV hate - I'm tired of answer questions or talking about Elon. I don't care about your politics, whether you like or dislike EVs, etc. This was an issue in the first few months of owning the truck, but a lot less rare now. The Looks - Not for everyone, but I have a special place in my heart for things that are different. This is personal preference. I wills say, I get far more positive comments than negative one. Kids especially love it. I've had zero issues in the 6 months of ownership. I did take it in for the wiper recall, but mine worked fine. Tesla Service was easy, communicated well, and fast.
