Good quality, have yet to see full potential
I chose this car because when I bought it I lived in a city with harsh winters and I needed a reliable, AWD option. I researched for over a year and decided to go with the Legacy over an SUV because of the gas mileage and the reliability of the Subaru name. The size of the cabin is great, and I can fit 4 large adults in here comfortably. The biggest problem I have had with this car is the gas mileage. At this point, I have driven it 4200 miles and have had an oil change and am still not getting above 21.9 miles to the gallon. I drive the freeway to work everyday and should be getting at least 28 combined. Even on a highway trip of 1200 miles, the best mileage I got was 29 MPG.
Elegant but practical ride
Overall, it's a very good car. Not a rocket ship but more than adequate acceleration. Driving carefully at 70mph+ I get almost 35 mpg. Handling is solid especially in snow (of course). Here in Cleveland I don't necessarily need winter tires but if I drove more or lived in mountains I would get them. Leather seats are attractive and comfortable, visibility good. Car looks good. Ours is white. Kind of generic sedan but the Limited version adds a little bit of class. I have had no repair issues. Only normal maintenance. Criticisms; Now that I am a little older (65+) it's a little low, particularly the front passenger seat which, I believe is lower than the drivers seat. I think if I had it to do over again I might opt for the Outback which is higher (but not too high) and of course, has the station wagon cargo space which is nice for bulky items. I have a real complaint about the design of the center stack and climate control. Although it looks OK, I find myself looking for the heater controls and taking my eyes off the highway for much too long. I have developed the habit of trying to adjust climate control only when the car isn't moving. The buttons are too small and there is no tactile feel for the controls to do it blind. Very bad. Also, the emergency flasher button is located directly in front of the shifter. It's very easy to hit the button with your knuckle as you put it in Park. My wife did do exactly that and didn't notice she hit the flashers. When she came out of work at the end of the day the battery was dead. Annoying! I think the controls have been redesigned since then but have a look if you are buying. Otherwise, great car! As of April 2020 I have about 93,000 miles. No significant mechanical issues, only scheduled maintenance. I had a trailer hitch put on to pull a light, 1,000lb sailboat. No issues.

Very Happy
I traded my 2011 Nissan in on the 2014 Legacy. My Nissan was horrible in the snow and I live on a very steep and dead end hill (that is hardly plowed or salted) in Pittsburgh. I never made it up the hill in my Nissan even a dusting I would be spinning and sliding. The first snow we had about 1" and it was somewhat icy and my Legacy went straight up it without a slide or spinning of a tire. I am so pleased with the performance in the snow so far. I do agree with a few of the comments above. I do feel a lot of the bumps and things whereas my Nissan I didn't. The driver and passenger seats to squeak some and that does drive me a little crazy. After it took my hill of a mountain I am not even concerned!! I would recommend the Subaru Legacy to anyone!!

2 years and 49,000 miles later
I bought this vehicle as an upgrade from the vehicle I had previously been driving for commuting ('98 Grand Prix GT). Pros: Decent gas mileage- I get right around 29.5-30mpg per tank of gas- though it can dip to around 28mpg in winter months. Handling- the ride is a bit stiff, but it handles really well. Looks- Vehicle has very nice styling. Reliability- I've had no major problems so far. AWD- This was the biggest factor in choosing this vehicle. Winter traction is very important to me and this vehicle handles very predictably in snowy/icy conditions. Interior- I'm 6'4" and I have plenty of room, head room is greater than any other sedan I looked at. Rear seats fold down and make it possible to move fairly large objects. Cons: Oil changes/oil usage- more expensive (around $75), though done somewhat less frequently than with vehicles using dinosaur oil. I typically have to add a quart of oil 6000 miles after an oil change, as the engine uses some oil. In 3 previous vehicles (chevy, pontiac, nissan), I've never had to add oil using Dino oil with a 5000 mile oil change interval, I drove the vehicles 175K, 250K, and 260K miles respectively (all purchased new). Intermittent rattle - something in the moon roof rattles occasionally, it seems to happen only within certain temperature ranges, its a bit annoying. Acceleration/transmission- CVT transmission takes some getting used to, feels like driving a golf cart- acceleration is a bit slow, but adequate. Overall, I would buy another, though I would probably opt for the Outback, for more cargo room.

Best Ever
Having driven other brands such as Toyota, Honda and Mitsubishi. I switched to Subaru Legacy because I heard that they were solid cars! I have no regrets! The handling is superb, very stable at high speeds and certainly fun to drive. I had a 2007 Subaru legacy and upgraded to a 2013 Subaru touring Legacy which was a sweet buy. 2013 Subaru is certainly better at gas mileage as compared to the 2007. The latter year is roomier and of course the SI drive is great. I am yet to explore the sport plus mode! Go get your Subaru legacy you wont regret owning one. I live in Jamaica and the roads are bad here and all my Subarus that I have owned have been with me for 5 years and more with little front end work. Still going on in 2022. My only drawback is the CVT.. Solenoid at times fails and then they rather you buy an expensive valve body!!
