Used 2001 Subaru Impreza Consumer Reviews
Cheap Fun
The RS provides an active driving experience for those who know how to use it. The combination of a balanced chassis and performance oriented suspension give the driver the ability to handle challenging roads and conditions with fun and excitement. The interior dimensions may not provide room for the larger driver, sorry you football lineman out there you will not fit. There is a need for more power, which was delivered in 2002 with the WRX. Unfortunately the WRX only comes in sedan and wagon. The WRX continues the Fun and excitement started with the 2.5RS, yet they too could use more power.
Needs refinement- but I love mine!
I bought this car new, and have put 47,000 miles on it in 2 1/2 years. The clutch was replaced under warranty at 30,000 miles for chattering, particularly when cold (~30-40 degrees). I'm about to replace it again, but at my own cost. The gearing is very low, making the car very responsive to gas pedal movement, but very jerky in traffic. One more gripe: the rear seat doesn't fold down. That being said, it's a blast to drive, and all wheel drive gives excellent traction, regardless of weather conditions. Despite my complaints, my next car will be another Subaru. You can't beat the value.
two years old and still get the stares
This car is the best car I have ever owned. It is safe in the rain and snow, fast, sexy and smooth. I live in LA where all the "NICE" cars are and I get looks (the car not me) every time I take her out and I have had the car for almost two years now. Sure the WRX is faster ... but it doesn't look half as nice.
My own review and opinion of the 2.5RS
Awesome and fun car to drive and handles curves and turns with ease thanks to the rs suspension and of course the AWD.Plenty of power and a monstourous amount of torque for the NA 2.5 liter Horizontally Opposed boxer 4. Drop the clutch in first and your off no skidding/sliding you just go 2nd and third and fourth gears have a good firm pull to 5800 with some power power drop off heading to 6000. Comfortable buckets seats hug you nice and tight but can get some aches on long road trips.
Legacy Wagon a very useful car
I bought a Legacy wagon as a snow car since I go to work on very twisty, hilly roads that are icy and frequently covered in more than 12 inches of snow. I never even noticed the snow or rain. The car also carried my Samoyed dog in the back with its dog gate. I could get large objects like doors with the door frame into the car completely inside the car. It always ran, started and it could fo 95 without any problems on the highway. It also had fantastic resale value. I paid 19.5 and after 3 years I received 13.5 with a slightly damaged bumper.
