Toyota quality, great mpg, reliable
42 mpg if you want. Averaging 38 hwy after plugs, coil packs, air filter, synthetic oil change, etc.. Better than a hybrid as never have to change out the batteries or worry about a generator failure. Got it to tow behind my RV. Bought in Florida to eliminate rust and drove to Indiana. 65 k miles. Had to replace rear wheel bearings, cheap and easy, replaced 4 tires on WM black Friday. Fixed the shaky airfilter with autoz. bushings for $5. If you can find a low mileage one, buy it! Resealed the driver headlight. No other problems. Great value!
Best car I've ever owned in over 50 years :)
I bought my Scion Xa brand new in 2006, and 13 years later I reluctantly sold it for a larger vehicle as I'll be traveling cross country and may live in the car part time. It only ever required standard maintenance and never gave me an ounce of trouble. For a small engine I found it to be zippy enough, and for a small car, it held a surprising amount of cargo. I moved several times and people couldn't believe the stuff I got in there. Plus, you can tuck that baby into the tiniest parking space. I live in Vermont and never got stuck in snow or mud or ever had a problem starting it. Great gas mileage, and the parts, such as tires, are super economical. Very comfy driver's seat (disclosure: I'm 5' 3"). On top of that, she was cute as a button.

My Little Rollerskate
I really like my Scion xA's good gas mileage, Its leg room equals or is better than the Toyota Sienna's. I am tall, it is becoming my favorite.
Great car bought used in 08 Low maintenance fees
Hardly any mechanical issues. Go any where in snow with snow tires. 27 mpg in summer. Easy to park and to get around in. Good car to teach kids how to drive. The mechanics love the shape of my car! Get oil changes (3 to 5K) and change spark plugs (every 60 k) and you will have a runner. I have 190k miles now...Update: December 2018, I now have over 200K. I replaced the starter (@$115) and catylitic converter ($250). Car is still on the road and fine.

Great Little Ride
This little car car has a smooth comfortable ride and its maneuverability is great. It's tiny and cute outside, but has plenty of room for adult passengers in the front and back inside. Its large window area makes for really good view out of rear when backing. Driving the xA is a joy!
If I could give it 6 stars I would
You either write a review for a vehicle because you love it or you hate it, and boy do I love my 06 Scion. This is the first used vehicle that I have ever purchased that I just completely fell in love with. Basically, if you're under 30 and looking for an economical car that will kick in to high gear when you need it to, look no further. I never have a worry when I visit family across state, and the 5 hour ride is comfortable and pleasant. Plus, I don't think I've ever gotten less than 30mpg in this thing. Only downside I have is that the interior will show wear and tear with age- that's just what you get with plastic made interiors. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone. **EDIT After One Year** Still love this car. Completely crunched the front, rebuilt it because toyota makes parts readily available and cheap, and I still drive it to this day. *EDIT AFTER 3 YEARS* This car... I recently purchased a new vehicle, and just couldn't bring myself to trade it in. Over 200k at this point and still running extremely strong. Does your kid need a good, reliable, cool first car? This is it. Are you looking to get something cheap that will run forever? This is it. Wanna throw a bunch of mods on a car and rally it into the dirt? Not the fanciest choice... But a valid choice regardless. I'll miss this car bring my daily driver. Hats off to you Toyota/Scion for a great vehicle

Gotta Love It!
Considering it cost about the same as my stripped Civic hatch did in 1998, it's an amazing deal. I have had no problems with my xA. It is easy to change the oil and its ergonomics and switchgear are first rate, The shifter snicks from gear to gear cleanly. The clutch takeoff is much smoother than my Civic's. It has a smooth engine, plenty of power and torque compared to my 1.6L Civic. Its sight lines are excellent. Everything is tight and feels high quality.
Best little car with big interior
This car gets great gas milage. I am seeing 40 mpg easy on trips. It will carrie (8) 2x4x8s with the hatch closed. I had this car for 12 years and it is still running great with no rust..... Amazing automobile.

Scion xA, Purchased Recently
This car is fine. I got used to the center pod dashboard quickly. The ONLY thing I could wish for, would be a 6th gear. At 80 mph, with a 5-speed manual, the engine is turning 4,000 RPM. That's fine, it has a 7,000 RPM redline, but there's no need to spin it so fast. There is no need to downshift on the highway. I drive in commuter traffic, 75-80 mph. In mixed driving, I get around 35 mpg.
What Gas Crisis?
The average gas mileage for my xA at 2,100 miles is 35.8. I keep it at 65 mph for the most part. This car is comfortable enough for my 55 mile drive to work. I would recommend this car to anyone.
