Used 2001 Nissan Pathfinder Consumer Reviews
Steering Shutter/Load Capacity
I just dumped my 01 Pathfinder for a Ford Explorer. Anyone buying this truck should know that it's more a sports car on stilts than an SUV. With a 1,000 pound load (including passengers), it's bottomed out...no shock absorbtion at all. Additionally, I went through 2 sets of tires and 14 service visits to fix a steering wheel shutter that begins at 60 and never goes away. It's still there after 45,000 miles and Nissan can't/won't fix it. RECOMMENDATION - Take it on the highway b4 you buy it! Don't get stuck with one like I had. Other than that, a very quick, fun to drive, reliable truck....but not worth the BS.
Nice to drive but MANY engine problems
I bought this after taking a small Toyota to more than 150K miles with no troubles. Like the size, power, interior features and just about everything about the car. But I've had TERRIBLE engine troubles -- all relating to overheating. I've had the radiator replace 3 times, valves, hoses, you name it replaced at multiple dealerships in multiple states (not fun when a car breaks down on a vacation) and no one can seem to fix the problem. As I type this, it's in the shop for at least the 6th time for overheating. Rental car guy in the service area says he sees '01 Pathfinders come through ALL the time. Wish it had the reliability of my old Toyota.

Bulletproof
Original owner. 147k miles. Engine/tranny/drivetrain no problems at all. This truck has been in 6 accidents (none my fault) always kept me uninjured and today has no rattles or leaks - it's as good as new. Have driven since 60k with check engine light on, no problems. Cd player has gone out twice. Everything else in excellent shape, great owner experience. Highway gas mileage really varies with speed. Keep it 65 and can get 21 mpg. Over 75 and it's 17.
Huge disappointment
I bought it with 87,000 miles and did all the due diligence with a weekend test drive, private mechanic checkout and carfax. Vehicle was a 1-owner trade and exceptionally clean. Nothing but a disappointment. Cat converters, O2 sensor issues, mass air flow, tie rod ends and wheel bearings were replaced a year later. CD changer doesn't work, bad o-ring oil seals, overheats in hot weather due to an air pocket in the cooling system the dealer couldn't even clear out, windows move slowly, transmission slips in cold weather. Looks like the exhaust resonator I put on is its 3rd one. Fan amplifier control module burned out. Left side sits a bit low so I suspect a bad strut.
Beware Of 01 Pathfinder. Find a diff car
Although i like the way they build the car exterior and interior wise, i do not like the way they have so much problems. When i bought the car in 2001 to a total of 42,433 grand, i though i will get a quality vehicle, i was wrong. I bought the state of the line entertainment system, lo jack and a push bar, all have failed me. My BOSE 6 CD changer doesn't work, keeps on getting the error "err2" which means disk stuck, push bar is poor quality and the lo jack doesn't work. I though i would get a good car but this car breaking down every time. replaced the windshield washer motors 8 times and still doesn't work and the step bar is corroded and the transmission is going only at 52343. Do not buy
