Used 2004 Nissan Murano Consumer Reviews
Disappointed
Purchased in 2004. Happy with the overall look and performance. Did not buy it for gas milege just wanted a safe vehicle for wifey. Check engine light stays on due to a bad Catalytic Convertor. Which in subsequent models was repaired. This causes the engine to burn oil because of particle blowback. The only sensible repair is a new engine. About 2-3 quarts every 2K miles. Driver side seat panels and arm rest cracked and peeled apart. During hot weather the door locks stick. Have to hold the unlock button and let the windows roll down to get in. The gas tank door opener stop working. I just disconnected from the system versus paying $300 for the part. Cannot wait to part with.
Good value for the cost... especially used
Check for accident damage, both by 'reports' and by having a mechanic check it. Our 'normal expenses' rise as milage goes up, but that is about right for any car I have had. At 145K miles, we had the transmission replaced, still don't know exactly why. Our mechanic did not do an autopsy, but I am guessing it is part of the early mortality problems of many CVT transmissions. This generation of CVT seems to be the Achiles Heel of the Morano. We donated this vehicle to girl scouts after many years of use, not because of any problems but because we were moving to an electric car.

Practical, Comfort and Elegance in One!
By 2025March, I will have this car for 21 years. This is no longer just a car, it is my on road partner. We had taken a journey of more than 270,000 km together. Surefooted in slippery snow, at sharp corners or blasting through a hazard situation, still retained its glorious original deep-burgundy paint with luxurious deep orange leather. Still stunning when new and 21 years later, thanks to its unique morphed unicorn-frog-swan shape inspired by the exquisite Italian Murano glass art works. Driving my Murano is like commanding a magical creature with the agility of a unicorn, the elegance of a swan and the stability of a bullfrog. UPDATE: Purchased brand new in March 2004 and is still going strong at 270000+KM on February 2025. The key is regular maintenance. The life-time oil change given by the original dealership Nissan-Infinity Richmond (BC,Canada), which was honoured by the subsequent owners of the car dealership and of course this old-gal who fell in love at first sight with this Murano and foolishly generous at supporting the business who keep this incredible car on its tip top shape.

Don't buy a 2004 Murano
At 72,000 miles the transfer case cracked, a $4,100 repair. I agree with user nutmeg a vehicle this expensive should not have a $4,100 repair before $100,000 miles. Nissan customer service is terrible, very condescending and useless. I WILL NEVER BUY NISSAN AGAIN! This is the second lemon from Nissan I have purchased, I'm done. Nissan even issued a technical service bulletin regarding how to fix the transfer case and it is w/ 2005 specifications. They should have issued a recall. Nissan is in the business of selling cars but not building customer relationships. This will eventually catch up with them. Repeat customers are what keeps companies in business.
Oh, My Murano...
I absolutely love my Murano. I'm kind of bummed at the moment though, because apparently my timing chain needs to be replaced, and the shop I got it priced at is wanting to charge me a whopping $2,100... (And of course this happened a convenient 900 miles AFTER the warranty expired). Great car, but horrible fixing costs.. And of course every Nissan dealership I've ever been to has the most money-hungry people I've ever met.
