Exactly as expected.
This is my 2nd nissan pick-up. Had last one for 8 years with no major problems. The bench seat was wearing me out before I could wear the truck out. I love this truck and it is much improved over my older 96. The four wheel drive goes terrific in the snow up here in New England! I'm 5'8" and have plenty of room in the truck, I think though that a large person might be cramped. A friend of mine was looking at a Dodge, I steered him towards the Nissan and he loves his truck as well. I fully expect to drive this truck for atleast 10 to 15 years.
01 here's a review with miles
Allright, so I've put 79,000 miles on my truck in less then three years. My driving includes a little of everything, city, highway, even some off road. But to be honest it's handled it pretty well. Recently though I did start having some issues, 1st: the taigate handle started to break and mad useing it very diffucult, but it was a easy $50 fix 2nd: Drivers side window knob broke, **** happens... BIG PROBLEMS- 4th: Throw-out bearing has worn, new clutch- $500+ 5th: Service engine litgh came on- O2 sensors need to be replaced first, possible the cat convertor. Still in the end I've treated this truck poorly so in the end these problems could be expected.
it's a truck!
The 2004 Nissan Frontier may not be a handsome truck but it does the job and at the right price. I would have preferred it to have a larger engine and more leg room in the rear, however I knew what I was buying so if I want to gripe about something it should be my thin wallet. This truck's best feature is its functional long bed.
Not bad for the price.
Overall it's a decent truck but have been questioning its durability from day one. The drivetrain is clunky and loose and when in 2WD the gearbox has an annoying rattle which the dealer says is "normal for these trucks." The lack of true power would make one expect better gas mileage but both power and gas milegae suck. It does look great and I have enjoyed taking it off-road. And it came at a great price. However, my final thought on this truck after owning it a few months is, "You get what you pay for."
It's ok but.....
I've had this pick-up for 9 months now, and it is ok. The ride is the biggest disappointment. The truck has a vibration when driving 40+, had at the dealership twice. They rebalanced the tires both times, but truck still has vibration. It also has numerous little rattles in the cab. On the positive side, you get a lot of options and a nice looking truck for a lot less than other models.
Better than Ford
This truck is a joy to drive. I previously had a Ford Ranger. It had a 4cyl engine and couldn't get out of it's own way. My Nissan however is almost as peppy as my 6cyl family sedan. I am very pleased with this vehicle and I haven't had a single problem with it. The Ranger was in the shop more times than I care to mention.
Good Truck Revisted
1st reviewed a year ago. I still love this truck. My wife bought an '05 Xterra. Very jealous of the new design. Considered new Frontier, but sticking w/the '04. Feature I would like most the rear door on extended cab for easier access. Golf clubs are hard to get in and out from behind back seat. Other than that, I've really enjoyed this truck. Good commuter vehicle and great for hauling whatever.
Excellent truck
I bought this crew cab long bed recently and am very excited about this truck. So far I like everything about it with the exception of one aspect. The tilt. This truck has so many nice qualities like fit and finish, pure looks, and power. I think they were looking at a different target audience, however. I'm 6'1 and with the tilt all the way up, and the seat all the way down, it can still be a little cramped on the driver's side. But on that note it is something that you easily get use to. It is just different I guess. Overall... No compact truck beats this one in terms of overall package (Quality, power, functionality -LongBed-, towing, etc).
The Final Frontier
Overall this has been an excellent truck. My primary use is to carry clients to show real estate in the mountains of North Carolina. 4 wheel drive is a necessity in the winter and to get in and out of undeveloped areas. Has good visibility and is comfortable. Reliability has been excellent.
Tough little truck
I have taken this truck off road as much as city streets and highways. It has been a great vehicle with decent performance. Acceleration is a little lacking but towing is not a problem at all. Top speed is limited by Nissan at around 95-97 MPH. My truck is loaded with the limited slip differential, skid plates, power everything, cruise, running boards, roof rack (which will actually hold the rated 125 lbs it's rated for). My truck came from factory with P265/70R15 BFG all terrain tires and full size spare. GVWR as equipped is 5220 lbs. This vehicle is my daily commuter, toy, toy hauler, and work truck.
Efficient, Great Truck
Owned truck since new for over two years now. Very dependable, not issues to report at this point. Gas mileage is around 27 in the city and around 30 on the highway (5 speed manual). Doesn't feel like a 4 cylinder. Pulled a 2000lb trailer with plenty of power still.
Great Value, Quality & Reliable
You cannot go wrong with this truck or really any Nissan. Good quality and no issues to report. Great acceleration and power for size of engine and vehicle. Own the 5 speed and had cruise installed at dealer when purchased new.
Tapioca
I've owned the Frontier for over 8 months now, and I am selling it today. Any major problems? No, just a coolant leak. Maybe I am too young and immature yet, but the truck, while not bad in any particular way, is just not what I was looking for. I would keep it if perhaps if I needed a truck and wasn't using it as a daily driver.
Reliable truck
Very reliable truck. I have 120k miles on the truck and the only serious malfunction I've had is the a.c. compressor failed prematurely. I have also replaced the knock sensor and have done a preventative timing belt change. Starts every time and does everything your ask from a small truck including towing without incident. Truck isn't particularly fast and it gets 17 mpg mixed driving but it's a truck so that's ok. Bought this instead of a Tacoma and I've had no regrets. UPDATE: Very reliable truck. 6cyl, auto, 4x4, short box, xe model. I’ve officially retired it as my daily driver but it’s been a comfortable, reliable, no frills vehicle for many years. It’s not the quickest vehicle, not the most fuel efficient, but it’s a truck so that’s normal and acceptable. I’m addition to daily driving, I frequently used it to tow my pop up camper and my 6500lb cuddy cabin, albeit slowly. Only complaints are that the air conditioner compressor failed at 90k miles and replacement distributors are basically junk if not genuine Nissan, I’ve been through 3 until I got a Nissan one. Other than that, just general maintenance and she’s a great truck. I love the ground clearance too. Would highly recommend!

Black Bart Rules!
Black Bart, my Nissan Frontier XE 4x4, just went to live with a new family after 10 years of faithful service. Hands down the best vehicle, of any type, I have ever owned! Dependable, reliable, very little maintenance and no breakdowns/repairs to speak of. I miss him already.

the little truck that could
Brought this Frontier as a one owner here in Florida. Paint could not hold up to the Fl sun. Fresh paint and good maintance has truck going strong at 120K. Interior now showing some wear. Mechanically, only needing routine upkeep.
Fun in my Frontier
It has met all my needs and still is doing a fine job.
2004 Nissan Frontier
I love this truck. It was refreshing to see that a car company did not drop their design team on their heads like with the American car designers. Buy American? Don't think so. Buy Nissan and be happy.
GREAT LOOKING,BUILT & DRIVE LIKE A TRUCK
Was disappointed by performance on highway, like an old lady, minus pep pills, but slow and sure, will not suggest a speedster to own this auto, built like a truck and drive like a tank, using as much gas to reach a destination,
2004 Nissan SC-6 4D is GREAT
Great TRUCK and highly recommend it. Crew Cab SC-v6 and Long Bed options are the way to go. Love the purchase.
Heathers Review
Wonderful truck to get. Its great with power and good on gas knwoing the gas prices these days. They are fun to drive!!!
frontier
very reliable truck with good power.base model has all the features you would expect and then some. not quite enough leg room in the back seat for adults but plenty for children. much better ride than older model
DARN GOOD TRUCK
I purchased 04-dr. frontier 4x4 xe-v6. (xtra value pkg incl.) I brought this truck just on consumer reviews and prof. reviews. The Flag-pole nissan 30 miles delivered to my dad upstate ny home. I was a little p/o when the truck wasn't prepped, low on fluids in the truck. There was a prob.engaging the tran. P to D. was getting worse. Did bring it back to the d/s. I did express the lack of prep. and trans. The service mngr. was prof.&courteous. ALL IN ALL THEY TOOK CARE OF ME. All fluids were taken care of and the shift linkage had to be adjusted. U should here a click when stepping on the brake pedal to engage the gear-shift. Drives like a german car/truck.Great!- SOLID,HANDLES,& QUIET.
