2000 Frontier 4x4 6 cyl.
This has get to be the worse vehicle I have ever owned. I bought it used about 2005 with 33,000 miles and undercoated. It ran great and still does with 142,000 miles. But about 10 years ago the ABS system would stop working for a few months and started working. This happened off and on for many years and nobody, even the dealer, could figure it out. This past fall I decided to clean the sensors and took out the left sensor and went to clean the sensor ring, it was broken. Called dealers and other places all over the country and could not find one. It seems the ring is no longer made. Found the whole hub with a good ring at an auto salvage yard. Put the hub on and it still would not work. Pulled the plug to the ABS Actuator and had battery voltage to pins 17 and 18, 19 gnd. but no ignition voltage on 15. I checked continuity and as I bent the wire it would work off and on so I had to tear apart half the dash to find out what fuse the wire went to. Great, this must be the problem, NOPE, but now had ignition voltage to pin 15. Two years ago I needed an inspection so I crawled under to recoat any undercoating falling off, like I do every year. I found four cracks in the frame. I had these fixed and under coated. He pulled all the sensors for the ABS and said it was ok, for a few days. This year I brought it to a shop and their scanner said the Vehicle Speed Sensor was bad. They tried to get it out and tried. They had to destroy it to get it out. Then they found the PLASTIC gear in the transfer case had a broken tooth so out came the transfer case. Then put in a new sensor and it worked for a few minutes, tried another new one and the same problem. I needed to use the truck but now the speedometer didn't work. It seems half the VSS controls that and half the ABS. They also found a torsion bar and frame rusted so bad it was a danger. That was fixed and they started to trace the wiring from the VSS but again I needed the truck and without the speedometer. The other day one of the rear leaf springs completely broke. Over the years the chain and lowering unit for the spare tire rusted so bad I had to cut the plate holding the spare tire up, put the spare in the bed, which has rusted and fixed three times. Replaced the tailgate, rusted, replaced rear bumper, rusted through. Fuel tank replaced, rusted through, oil pan, rusted through. Tailgate cables broke, rusted through. Bolts holding cooling fan sheared off. Small rust spots on the hood, are you kidding me ? This is a few of the things this piece of crap has caused me. I have had two Frontiers and never had these problems and this truck has never been used for off road. When your on a fixed income it's hard to just get another but when I can it will NEVER be another Nissan.

2000 Nissan Crew Cab XE 4wd V6 Auto
As it gets older, it will get a lot of off road / back road use. I want compact external dimensions, and a short turning radius for the (almost) roads that often use. This fills the bill. It is quiet on the freeway. The only real wind noise comes from the bug deflector. We average 18.5 mpg with a canopy, a bed full of "family stuff" and 4 people in the truck. It has no squeaks and rattles.

Long Timer
The 2000 Nissan Frontier SE Crew Cab 4X4 is the best truck I have ever had. Millage get this at 210,000 miles its only had the 5 speed manual transmission and clutch replaced. Other than routine maintenance the ususal spark plugs, wires, O2 Sensors, oil and coolant changes its is the performer. The truck averages 17.5 mpg and it is a vehicle that have been dependable for over 8 years.
Happy With Mine
I purchased it new. It's my second Nissan truck and without a doubt, I'd get a third one. Past couple of years I drive 22,000 miles annually. The only parts that were replaced were from routine wear and tear. I've done everything recommended to maintain it and replaced all parts as they wear out. 2007 my mechanic said the engine would go over 200,000 miles and now 2009 he's saying it'll go over 300,000 miles. I'm getting a new car end of this year but definitely keeping my truck.
nice truck
this truck has been great to use for my business. With the rise in gas prices everywhere it sure beats the gas guzzlin v8s, even though it lacks a lot of power it get the job done.
best vehicle I've ever had
Just gas it up an go, it will get you there. A set of tires,1 brake job and 2 headlights is my maintenance repairs in 10 years. It will need to be totaled before I sell this truck.
Awesome
Awesome fun to drive stylish dependable great loooks ergonomic interior cold ac Smiling and driving excellence
Great Little Truck
This truck has been outstanding! It has been 100% reliable, never burns oil, and for a truck, it's very quiet. Overall, on a scale of 10, I would give it a 7.
I love my truck!
I've had my truck for 2 years, drive it pretty steadily, and have never had any problems with it. It's a great truck.
Practical Hauler for Common People
The Frontier is not a contractor grade truck, but it does the jobs that most average households need to get done. Pulls a small boat fine, 4wd on beach or mud is great, carries 4 adults fairly easy. Hiway ride is noisy but safe. The engine revs high to maintain speed and MPG should be better for such a light truck. The best thing about this truck is that it is easy to operate and inexpensive to own. No problems of any kind and it feels like it will run forever. Interior is comfortable.
Good Truck
Overall this truck has been very good and reliable. We will probably get another one when our lease expires in May 2003.
Good Used Truck
Nice reliable truck for my teenager.
Over all a great family truck!
Very reliable great for my familey Gas millage is low for a small truck Over all I would buy this truck again Had one problem under waranty Nissan did a gret job fixing and even gave us a rental car
GOOD SMALL TRUCK
HAVE DRIVEN TRUCK FOR 3 YRS, HAVE ONLY CHANGED TIRES, AND OIL, BEEN VERY RELIABLE.BUT DO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH STEREO, IT CUTS IN AND OUT.
my frontier
at first i like the old hardbody design and then i needed a new one specially the crewcab having one child and a lot of people asking for help if they needed to move something, it turned out i wasn't wrong of chosing my frontier crewcab but sure would be better if it was timing chain instead of timing belt like the new pathfinder.thats all i did replace my timing belt and its new again.
larrys nissan
I bought this truck used with 47500 miles on it and added custom wheels and a k&n air filter and a stero upgrade. It has 61000 miles on it now ,have had no problems.
Good Truck
Bought truck used in 2001 with 27k miles. Now has nearly 102,000 miles. Still going strong. Back seat does not have a lot of leg room, but is great for short adults or kids. I added a roll-n-lock bed cover to use for covering luggage on family trips. Rear cup holders are good with kids in back. My daughter is learning to drive and likes this better than our car.
Read here for performace upgrade
Bought new. AT leaked back of tranny, dealer fixed on third try, tech from Japan looked at it. Front sway bar endlinks nuts, washer breaks. Replaced with plyurethane bushing with hardware included from Baxter Auto. Shocks: Monroe reflex all 4. Mileage now 58k. No major problem, I do my own oil chg and maintenace.
Crew cab
My crewcab has over 140000 miles on it and it still looks and drives like new. It had provides fuel mileage of 19 mpg since it was new and this never varies. It tows heavy trailers well and is okay on snow and ice. I would advise tires with a smaller contact patch in the winter snow. The service manual is way overpriced and one of the plugs is a bear to change.
Not bad for a 4DR
I bought this truck to upgrade from a 93 civic 2dr. I needed a family car, but also some thing I could load up with Home Depot goodies. This is a great truck and I have no real complaints about it. I decided to buy this truck after reading all the reviews on this web site, and I suggest if you are reading this review to decided as well, I suggest you buy it. You won't be dissapointed.
Great Vehicle
My 2000 Nissan Frontier has been a very reliable vehicle. I have 103,500 miles on it, and it shows no sign off ailing. I honestly feel the vehicle will go another 80,000 to 100,000 miles easily. So if you're looking for a reliable vehicle, you shouldn't go wrong with this one.
Sweet
I bought my 2000 Nissan Frontier with 60,000 miles on it. It runs like new and is reliable. It looks great and is really fun to drive.
You've gotta know!
Coming out of a Nissan minivan I wanted to stay high up, w/room for 3 younger kids. With 86k miles not one problem. What a great experience and no money out of pocket. Being a car salesman myself and now going to a Nissan SUV. I do recommend for a used vehicle buyer. The back seat is smaller but overall handles very well.
Unhappy
Two years ago I moved up to the foot hills of Saramento and ever since it has been overheating. No one has been able to solve it dealer or private machanic. Heavy on gas and has NO power. Body very tinny.
90K and counting - loving it - Shift4x4
This truck has exceeded my expectations, A new purchase and have enjoyed very mile. only issue has been, battery replaces at 4th year, leaking a/c hose replaced compressor to top of condenser, new tires after 5th year and heat shields on exhaust removed (they began to rattle) due to some corrosion. I am not planning on getting rid of anytime soon. too much plastic in the front grill and fascia on the new one I will wait for a nicer design. I like its towing capacity, I have taken it from philadelphia to montreal several times with a fully loaded trailer, perfomance was good. the cruise control light, dimmer, and radio controls are a bit out of view on this model. overall I love it.
I love this car
This is the first car I purchased on my own. While in college I took it to Mexico on surf trips and offroading. I have never had a problem. Other than routine maintenance, I've never had to do any additional service. I have one child and another in the way and while it is turning out to be a little too small, I refuse to give it up. It just has been that good of a car to me.
Easy to own
Great truck with lots of power in the automatic v-6. No problems whatsoever, just changing oil and everything else continues to work fine. I never have to worry about the truck not working right. A very easy to own vehicle, and comfortable to drive.
still holding up!
tough little truck!. i have over 150,000 miles for a 2000 4dr. i had it since 0 miles . a main problem has always been the a/c system. i use it day and night go out of town alot and use it for lots of other things. a very shocking thing is when i had a head on collision the air bags did not deploy. but more shocking was the truck had no frame damage and it was repairable. fuel economy is not very well and the horse power is very poor. but handles like a car i love that stable control.the custom off road wheels really make the truck stand out. factory alarm is very poor quality. after k&n and custom exhaust it consums more gas and has about the same power.
good vehicle
quiet, reliable, solid no squeaks or rattles after 36k, no problems or shop time. i think this one is a keeper..should get 200k out of it with the proven V6
Love my crew cab
A great truck. More hauling room than SUVs and the people hauling room of a sedan. Not overly cumbersome like a full size truck or SUV. You get the same road visibility, but without the bulk and poor handling. It's got good power and great handling. Seeing as how it's a Nissan it should prove to be extremely reliable. No major problems so far and things should stay that way.
My 2 cents
Great all around truck. I drive it to work, on vacation, and some times "off the beaten path." I have never not had enough "go" and for the money this is the best small 4x4 truck out there. It is thirsty, but I contricbute that to the way I drive in addition to the numerous short trips I make.
Great Starter Truck
Purchased this truck brand new and have little to no problems with it to date. Over all this a good reliable truck. No complaints.
Good long lasting vehicle
It has high mileage but still runs like new. Needs some cosmetic & lock repairs.

Unstoppable
It started out as my dad's truck. He bought it as his personal truck for work (HVAC), so by the time he handed it down to me, it was already pretty beat up and old. Regardless, it has never once let me down. It's had some issues here and there that were all to be expected from a 22-23 year old retired work truck, but I couldn't complain about it even if I wanted to. It was given to me with the expectation that I would trade it in for a newer car, but I couldn't even think of parting with it. It has the power to pull an entire fleet of HVAC vehichles at least twice it's size out of some pretty precarious and muddy situations (I'm speaking from experience), and any maintenance or parts needed tend to be cheap and simple. The ONLY complaint I have is the seats aren't the most comfortable on long rides and they don't make any replacements anymore, but nevertheless I plan to keep this truck until it dies, and after that I plan on fixing it back up and driving it some more. Best purchase ever.

I bought my 2000 Nissan Frontier XE crew cab in February 2006 with about 90,000 miles on it at the time and it now has 443,000 miles and it’s still all original factory engine and manual transmission only thing I have done is replace timing belt twice in 17 years

Good Riddance
Maybe I'm just used to boxy SUVs. I replaced my '92 Pathfinder SEV6 with the Crew Cab Frontier SEV6. Bad mistake. The handling was less than I expected. The ABS would abruptly kick in wet conditions. Short-bed was neat until I needed to put something big back there. Cramped and plain interior. Stock CD player would malfunction when it got too warm from long operation. Poor traction and ugly cloth seat fabric. I liked the unique exterior look though for its time. Traded it in after the second accident involving the terrible 4WD traction. Owned it for a year. Nissan was once my favorite automaker, however they take a second or even fifth seat after owning such a bad vehicle. I still see their current models could use a tad more luster in their designs.
Nissan is the best old or new
I have a 2000 loaded Se 4x4 frontier, which will be up for sale in June 2010, low miles, under 50,000 miles, I have been thrilled with my truck for the last 10 years, and I can hardly wait to get the new 2010, I will get a 2010 LE CC Long Bed, Loaded with everything except the Moon Roof, that is the only thing I have not enjoyed on my 2000.
Rock solid
This truck is rock solid. I've owned it a year and a half with no problems. It's fun to drive and I get compliments on it almost every day. Nissan has everything Toyota offers for alot less money!
Affordable and reliable truck
Four doors (passenger room)and a bed (cargo room), most practical vehichle design if you can only afford one vehicle. I worried about the "small" bed being too small. It is not. I have only filled it to capacity on a few occasions and have never really needed more (if so, put it in the rear seat). Overall, nothing fancy, but dependable, reliable transportation for all my needs. 54k and no problems.
2000 Crew Cab Frontier
I absolutley love my Crew Cab Frontier. I have had it for over two years now and it is still running strong. I use it to pull my horse trailer and still get double digit gas mileage. Pulled a loaded UHaul across country this past March and got double digit gas mileage, too. It is a pathfinder with a truck bed. It is sharp looking, fun to drive, good on gas, just a great truck! I really like the Nissan products, this is my third. It satisfies my need to pull my horses and yet can be utilized year round without costing a lot on gas. Highly recommend!
