ML320 Good but not Reliable
Great car mechanically but electrically unreliable like all Mercedes models since 2000. Poor reliability related to electrical/sensor problems (Robert Bosch?). By 75000 miles repaired: door locks sensors, crankshaft position sensor(engine stops unexpectedly), mass airflow sensor, front window switches (twice),brake pressure sensor, brake switch, rear seat locked down
The best M-class ML430
First off I live in East Hampton Long island N.Y. where the M-class is rarely seen. But in N.Y.C.(Brooklyn) they are all over the place (ML320'350's and 500's)but not ML430s they stand out they look a little more unique because of their bigger rims and smaller body. I love this SUV it is so great it has a powerful V8.Check it out!

Just Plain junk for $45K
I have had 4 window switches put in, 2 CD players, got a leak from somewhere when it rains (water ends up on the floor boards). Brakes wear out early, tires wear out, traction control sensor, and air bag sensor on the same side go bad 2 times. With 48K miles, the stiching on my front leather seats have come appart. And we don't drive this car much!!! Have talked to others with similar problems. Beware before you buy. Will never by anoth MB product again. Oh yes $500 for mass air flow sensor.
I can't be happier.....I just sold mine.
Engine and transmition problem, electrical problem, window won't open, doors won't lock, lost power steering two times within a year, dealer charge me $1500 to replace a light bulb in the running broad, cracked rear side panel, change break pads three times in the first 30,000 miles, low feul light blinks and no dealer can fix it and many more.My EX-ML almost killed me three days ago when it lost it's power steering. And I just fixed the power steering two weeks ago because I got a recall from Mercede. THE RECALL LETTER SAID THE ML CAN LOSE IT POWER STEERING SUDDENTLY AND MAY CAUSE DANGEROUS SITUATION. This really happened but after They FIXED the problem!
Pure Aggrevation
This vehicle has been in the shop more times than I can count. I just thank God I purchased the extended warranty. Not a month goes by without some problem, be it heated seats not working to transmision/brakes etc..My advise would be not to even consider buying this car. It's extremely unreliable - Couldn't unload it fast enough. MB did not do their job
2000 Mercedes Benz
Levels of service by Mercedes Benz has been outstanding. Problems have been few but included seat heaters, drivers side window switch.
Lots of electronics-many things go wrong
I love driving my 2000 ML320. However, I hate taking it into the shop. Now, it is coming off warranty, and I'm worried about the total cost of ownership. Here's some examples of the problems: Electronic Window Switch broken Loose Lower Power Steering Cooler Line Fuel Pump Insufficient Glue Residue on Door Window Noisy Drivers Side Door - Strap Loose Rear Seat Stuck in Down Position SRS Controller Needs to Be Replaced and More
My First and Last Mercedes...Never Again
Motor was replaced at 20,000 miles. Repeated transmission leaks, Power stearing went out, windows failed several times, goo smeared up the windows from inside the door the first summer, sun roof failed, numerous "check engine" lights (in addition to that listed above) requiring trips to the dealer for repair. A/C is inadequate for the size of the vehicle (corrected in later year models) Mercedes' mechanics and customer service has been excellent. They certainly get enough practice with the M-Class.
My .02 (just sold my ML320)
Our ML320 had several annoying issues which, while covered under warranty, did not meet my expectations of Mercedes Benz quality. The car is great to drive and has a wonderful interior, but here is my laundry list: failed emission test due to faulty sensor, GPS system ate a cassette and I had to pull the fuse to get it to stop chewing (even with ML powered off it kept going), MB replaced the entire GPS unit. Back seat rest inserts pop off when adjusting, back seat was stuck in down position (dealer had to adjust cables), High Oil light came on when oil was low (took 3 trips to the dealer before diagnosed also), moon roof air dam bar came off.
Expensive Junk!
This car costs way too much for all the problems I have had! In less than 2 years - moonroof broke, catalytic converter cracked, spark plugs damaged, new tires, new brakes, shifter bushing, cracking noise when braking/accelerating (bushing of some sort), harmonic balancer replaced, leak in transmission, CD changer broke, and the list goes on! I'm trading this car in for a reliable Honda! I would not recommend it to anyone!
mnj review
It has been a joy to own and drive. No problems and has performed well in snowy conditions. One crticism, cruise control is awkward to use. Handles well in critical situations.
SOLID MB
Solid SUV, smooth ride and very comfortable. I don't feel like I'm riding in a "tin" can like other cars. It's a fun SUV to drive. No mechanical problems.
Kinks to work out
Finally after 2 1/2 years of trips to the repair shop, I finally gave up on my ML. 12 trips to the shop for 8 different reasons and I finally had enough. The last straw was getting stranded by a fuel pump failure. All items were covered under the warranty but for $40,000 I at least want a car that runs for a couple of years before mechanical failures set in.
Lemon
Since purchasing this car I have been in the shop every to every other month. It is the worst built car I have ever owned. Mercedes should be embarrassed to sell this as a Luxury car. My service file is four inches thick and just about every moving part has at some time failed. I am currently looking to unload the car as soon as possible.
Great car poor reliability
This is a great fun to drive car with lot of power. However the reliability of the ML430 has taken the fun out of ownership. In the past year I have been at the dealer six times (on average every two months). I have had to replace break pads and rotors twice (every 8000 miles). I have had problems with the navigation system, windows, power steering pump, rack and pinion.
ML 320 2000
Love it all the way for comfort , style and performance. Feels solid
2000 ML320
I bought this SUV last month before doing my usual online investigative work. I admit I bought the vehicle because I liked the drive, image and I actualy fit behind the wheel (6'4"). I have 6 months left on the factory warrantee and I am having the local MB dealer check out the usual bugs reported in the reviews I read here. I notice some folks love the ML320 while others seem to hate it due to build quality. I hope I got one of the "good" ones..
Mercedes Review
this is my first mercedes experience. in the past 12 months i've had to spend over $3500 replacing various parts including fuel pump, steering mechanism, and the battery. i've had my vehicle stuck in my garage because it wouldn't start on 3 occassions and stuck 1,000 miles from home after my fuel pump went bad with no warning. perhaps i have/had high expectations but i didn't and do not expect such problems with a mercedes benz product
ML
Great vehicle, a few more rattles that I like.
Great SUV!
I bough mine in Sept 2000. I stayed away until late 2000 model year after hearing quality issues on 1998 and 1999 models. I wouldn't touch these first 2 year model! For 2000, MBZ revised the interior and presume all the issues found on 1st 2 years. Hey, I had NO PROBLEM with mine and can't see why there are so many who whine about their car. We took it in for 1 yr service and Bellevue MBZ dealer also replaced the sunroof motor. I guess there may have been a "silent" recall. What can I say? Just love this SUV!
I am upset with the build quality
The car is a nightmare in build quality and reliability. It is a shame that Mercedes Benz has done so lousy work with this model and charged its customers with prices as if were made in Germany.
Poor quality SUV
- Check engine light on all the time. The dealer can not "duplicate the problem" - Engine stall few times - Driver window sitch do not work - Low gas millage
solid, safe
Safe and solid. Would purchase it again. After three years, the ML320 has been great. No problems whatsoever. Mercedes has proactively replaced some items under warranty during regularly scheduled maintenance visits. *Great* service in Texas; crappy service from HBL in Vienna, Virginia.
Very Disapointing
Our ML had problems from the first day we got it. I am currently trying to get it a lemon status. There has always been a metal on metal sound from the drive shaft, but the dealership cant fix it. The car has cut off several times under normal driving. We have had four instances when the car would not start and needed to be towed. Once my wife was driving and the power steering gave out.Just last week I was stuck in Atlanta 350 miles away from home and the car needed to be towed, because it would not start. The fuel pump and lines needed to be changed. My first and last.
short lived affair
I first saw this car in the movie jurassic park and said to myself: I must have one. I finally got one a few months back and today, I traded it in for a jaguar because I am concerned about the future reliability of the car. the passenger driver door lock needs replacement and I hear some funny noises coming from the steering mechanism. a plastic part in the back just cracked for no reason and even with the extended warranty I just don't want the hassle. my business parner has a 320 sedan and he is eager to dump it because mercedes benz got lost somewhere and their newer cars are just overpriced not the legends of yesterday.
ML320
When we first bought the vehicle the cd player did not work. Dealer replaced it under warranty. We paid $400 at the dealer (Mercedes Dealer) to install a trailer harness only to get it home and the harness did not work. My husband had to "repair" it for our trip. It seemed that every time we went to the dealer something else would stop working. Gave up on the dealer and have not had any other problems. Very happy with the vehicle now!
Great SUV!
I can say I highly recommend it! so far so good for myself. Love the look, the way the engine sounds (quiet) and the way it drives.
all style, no substance
I liked the styling and the Mercedes-Benz brand. I owned an E320 and thoroughly enjoyed it but my 2000 M-Class has been nothing but trouble. I've spent $5,000 in 12 months on repairs, brakes, rotors, leaking seals, pumps, etc. Curently, it won't run without stalling and the dealerhip can't seem to find out what is wrong. The've had it for four days!
Help Me!
Wow, I should have read these reviews before purchasing this car. Started problems after 2 years (when I brought it to Canada and it got daytime running lights). Last 3 months in the shop 5 times, for weeks on end (there now for new engine mounts (2 weeks & counting). Replaced: catalictic converter, engine discs, mass air flow sensor, rate sensor, ignition coil, alternator, etc. Battery went dead, towed in. Embarrassing! UNSAFE, I bought it for the safety & reliability! Has put me & my family in dangerous situations when it stalls!
My first Benz
I recently purchased my first Mercedes- Benz, a black '00 ML320 with 48,000 miles. I get a lot of weird looks from other ML drivers, as I'm only 21 years old, but nonetheless, I love my car! It rides very smoothly and I've got a great view of the road. The only gripes I have: 1) vehicle was leaking oil a couple of days after I purchased it; the problem was a leaky crankshaft seal and a bad crankshaft pulley, which I was told by the technician was a common problem with the V6 motor. 2) the liftgate rattles when I drive over any bump, and sounds horrible when I close it. Otherwise, it's a great car to drive.
ML320 new engine mounts
The car is fun driving; safe and sturdy, even on slippery roads. The dealership offers excellent support. But the car's reliability is poor. Even under warranty it required many repairs. And lots more thereafter. Excessive costs to maintain vehicle make it unattractive. Support from MBUSA not great either.
Uberwagen
This is two vehicles-in-one for our family. My wife loves using it for driving the kids around, shopping, whatever. She especially likes the on- the-spot braking. I love taking it on camping trips. It has tons of room for all our camping gear (family of 4) - especially when I shift the back seats forward to increase the cargo area. No other SUVs I looked at (at the time) had the same blend of cargo capacity, handling and ride. You do feel like you are driving a tall euro sedan - cornering is quite remarkable (due to ESP) for a vehicle so tall. We have had a few minor issues requiring dealer service but overall have been pleased with its reliability.
WE LOVE IT!
An absolute great car! We've had a few problems with the steering mechanism, plastic on driver side seat cracked at 40,000 miles, and a lot of flat tires. We've never used the spare tire, because we don't know how to release it from it's holder... Other then those mishaps, WE LOVE IT!
ML430 Lemon
18 warranty issues in 2 years of ownership, including safety, reliability and drivability problems. This is my 3rd and FINAL Mercedes-Benz product.
The ML Experience
I wanted an SUV that would last me for 10 years -- and up to this point, I admit I'm a little worried. Granted, it's only had 1 mechanical failure in 33k miles, but I have also replaced the brakes once. On the other hand, while the interior is a little dated, the SUV is built like a tank and is fun to drive. The ML430 is VERY peppy with the 24V V8. Would I buy another one? That's the real question, isn't it? Yes, I'd buy another one. The ML tends to get better each year I look at them.
Great to drive, but ...
Responsive engine, fun autostick, reasonable gas mileage (if you're careful), wonderfully comfortable seats, great sounding stereo. But every six months its back in the dealer for something else, window switches (of course), rattles, CD, radio, paint (dealer's fault). The build quality is dismal
M.B. has lost a customer for life
I had a '99 ML-320 that was so awful the dealer gave me a great deal to get out of it into a 2000 model, which he claimed was much improved. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Among the problems were nagging Check Engine lights that came on every so often, stuttering power locks that sometimes locked and sometimes didn't, a/c which was improperly wired, center arm console which would bubble-up (was replaced three times), a/c compressor blew its fuse every so often (had to travel with spare fuses), expensive brakes that would last only about 20,000 miles, and, of course, the five times in three years the car would not start and had to be towed.
What A Lemon
Trouble started 10 days past qualifying for the lemon law - met all stipulations except the time period. Towed numerous times for the same problem to the same dealership (due to a move not the selling dealership). Never could fix for any length of time. Regional service manager wouldn't return calls, Mercedes USA wouldn't help. Would NEVER recommend one.
2000 ML430
Aside from a few minor fixes (rear corner glass piece cracks, etc - al taken care of under warranty) my ML has been great. It's relatively quick, sure-footed, and comfortable (keep in mind - I also own an Audi S4). Sure, it drinks gas like there's no tomorrow, but what would you expect from a V-8? I will be trading mine in for a ML500 in a couple of years.
Best SUV for its class
Overall I enjoyed the vehicle though I do a lot of highway miles and I think it's great for any long trip because it rides like a seden.
ML430
Bought a Starmark vehicle. Wonderful vehicle! Don't understand the comments about fuel mileage. I get better than the EPA estimate. What do you expect from a truck? Solid as a rock and not top heavy feeling like other SUV's.
Love it!
This is our third ML. Have two now. Great for traveling. We feel much safer in this vehicle than any we have owned. Navigation system is excellent. Now have over 75000 miles on this one and 50000 miles on wife's 2001.
ML 320
I bought the vehicle new. 6 years and few problems. Oil sending unit did leak after 5 years. Didn't feel that should have happened. 48900 miles and still using original brake pads. Very surprised. Replaced switch for abs system. No other problems.Have changed oil every 10000 miles per fss.MBUSA insists on premium unleaded. I have burned regular unleaded for years. Can't tell any difference.
I'm scared
I bought this thinking I would own it for years and put 150,000 miles on it. Five months later I'm trying to get rid of it. So far its spent 20 days at the dealership. The shops been great, but the problems keep coming back. Power steering quit twice. Brakes quit (pedal to the floor) and took over a week to fix. Replaced shocks, brakes, all with less than 40k on the car. What's worse is that every time it goes to the dealer they have to air ship parts from Alabama. Appearantly they are type specific for each car. I love driving the car, but I can't imagine the repair bills once it goes off warranty. Would I do it again? NO!
Love it - Trading for 2003!
I love this truck! I have owned several MB in the past (6) and all of them have their own problems but I have to tell you this one has been great. I have NOT been dissappointed. THe dealership has repaired any problems, usually before I notice them. They have taken exceptional care of me and my vehicle, probably because I have been a customer since 1975.
50k junk
vehicle has been in the shop more times than I care to remember, I bought this for my wife thinking it was the best I could do for her. It really hurts to see what a piece of junk this thing is. She still likes it, but I have grown to hate it. also have a SL500 with 75,000 mi it cost over 6k in repairs last summer as it has continous electrical problems. It appears that MB has no quality. MB shop said to consider what they mean when thay say "engineered like no other" I thought it meant great cars. Bernie Doran Centerburg, Ohio
Best of 16 Vehicle I've owned.
Of the 16 vehicles (cars, vans, SUVs) I've owned, this has the best value and utility. I have over 48,000 miles, and although there have been some minor problems with the rear seat, the over- all performance and use-ability of this vehicle is great. There is lots of room, great visibility, enough power to pass trucks and great braking. I have never driven a vehicle with more "sure- footedness". I am never fearfull in the rain or snow. The comfort level is very good, and I get 20 MPG over-all (22 highway).
love my benz
I have owned my 320 almost four years. I love my 320, have never had it in for anything other than service. I would buy another in a heartbeat.
Awsome ML320 y2000
This SUV (2000) is by far the most outstanding vehicle in the SUV class. I have been in, driven, and tested others both on and off road. The ML320 has the most outstanding combination of off- road and on-road, convenience, safty, and comfort. Did I mention safty? The ESP is awsome and has proven itself to me (no details). Everything in this vehicle is quality. From the wheels to the door knobs. The electronics are also awsome and never fail. kudos...
MB poor quality
Brake pads replaced 15m and 30m mi.yellow light on in dash for something all the time. Oil comp test, had to add oil three times between oil changes. in shop 10 times 30m mi.
