A Great SUV, why wear a suit when can wear a Tux

Denny O, 06/14/2020
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class GLB 250 4MATIC 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 8AM)

Have owned many cars and SUV's, last one a BMW X1. This one looks great, plenty of room, great ride and peppy performance from the turbo 4. The 8 speed dual clutch trans is a gem that seamlessly keeps the vehicle in the right gear to use the wide torque band. The technology can be overwhelming, but slowly getting used to.

GLB with AMG Option - review

SDM, 12/22/2020
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class GLB 250 4MATIC 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 8AM)

This is my first Mercedes Benz. By way of comparison I owed, all new, three Jeep Cherokees/Grand Cherokees (1988,1994, 2000), two Ford Escapes (2009,2012) , and a turbo VW beetle (2004), and a Chevrolet Z-06 Corvette (2004). The workmanship on the GLB (2020) is superlative and way above my other cars. I opted for a number of options, including the AMG package and the larger flat screen dash. I mentioned those for a couple of reasons, hereinafter. The AMG package doesn't, in the 2000 model, provide any additional horsepower. It does, however, provide for different styling, drilled rotors, larger wheels, and other items. Whilst the larger wheels are, in my view, better looking you will need to get snow tires as the AMG tires are not all season. So, if you are going to be using it in a snow environment plan ahead for that expense. Another downside to the AMG package is that the GLB factory mudflaps will not fit the AMG model. I had to use generic items and make them fit. I am 6'4" so the interior dimensions were important. I fit better in the GLB than the GLC. Moreover the visual sight lines from the GLB are also better. That being said, the driver's cockpit is a bit cramped for me on a lengthy drive. Although the seat has infinite adjustment you still have to contend with the steering wheel and the center console. In long drives I found that the edge of the center console strikes my leg about 4 inches below my right knee, and the door handle is at the same point on the left. It's difficult to move to a comfortable place regardless of where the steering wheel is placed (tilt & telescope). Also, I cannot see the complete speedometer or tachometer because the steering wheel, at my height, is blocking my view. I don't understand why Mercedes Benz does not allow the flat screen to be switched, putting the infotainment system directly in front of the driver and the speedometer/tachometer in the middle (like a Mini Cooper). I purposely bought the heads up display which solves some of those problems. It has sufficient adjustment for my height. On summer blend gas, with summer tires, I can obtain low 30mpg at 75 to 80 mph on expressways, and mid 20s with winter blend fuel, and snows. City driving, regardless of fuel or tires is low to mid 20s. Because it is a turbo, 91 octane is required. Turbo lag is not terrible. More annoying is when driving in the "comfort " transmission setting, the upshifts are terrible. You need to really accelerate to overcome the, in my view, lag time on upshifts. I found switching to "sport" in the city eliminates that issue altogether. Cargo space is great if you are carrying loose sand but, as an example, my golf clubs won't fit without one on the backseats down. Likewise, the roof rails look good but there are no crossmembers so unless you build or find something aftermarket anything narrower than the rails will be resting on the roof. Last, I tried to find the fuse panel inside the passenger compartment to wire my Valentine v1 and a dash camera. Despite where the owner's manual indicated the fuse panel is in the passenger compartment, it is yet to be found. Overall I am pleased with the car. I've only 5,000 miles so reliably hasn't been tested.

More room than expected

S Kukuris, 05/04/2020

For a smaller SUV, we found the GLB to offer plenty of elbow room, with ample passenger and cargo space. We didn't need the 3rd row, so we don't have to worry about sacrificing cargo capacity. The base model doesn't include some basic features, such as a garage door opener, enhanced interior ambient lighting, or a heated steering wheel, but we don't feel short-changed at all. We still have heated seats and plenty of options in our particular vehicle to meet our needs. The 4matic is a MUST in Colorado, so that was an upgrade we couldn't do without. The turbo acceleration is very noticeable, and every mode handles exceptionally well. As first-time MB owners, we are very pleased with the GLB!

The GLB is very attractive, inside and out. It has a very smooth and pleasant ride. And has been excellent in the snow. It has many upscale features as well. I’ve owned my GLB for 5 weeks and it’s already been in the shop twice. The first time I brought it in was because the car wouldn’t let me unlock it to get in. Once I was in, it said that it couldn’t detect my key and wouldn’t start. If the key battery is dead, you’re supposed to be notified on the dashboard supposedly. That never happened. I now have to take my car back in because the trunk isn’t closing properly. The power litigate closes and latches the trunk, but it then immediately unlatches. A few other disappointments are that I gave up some safety features in my Mazda. You’d think a car thats $20,000 more would have those standard, but no. The premium sound system isn’t nearly as good as the BOSE in my Mazda either. Also, the shifting can be jerky from time to time.

Have it for a few months now

I got my GLB 250 with many of the optional features. So added up it’s pretty much the price of a GLC. That said, I have so much fun with this car. I’m a big dude (6’2) and there is so much leg room and head room that I’m still surprised about it to this day. It drives way smoother than I expected. I can drive sharp curves at 20mph and I’ll be fine! Bumps? Easy, I don’t feel them as much. I also have seat kinetics which moves the seat to hug my body and to counteract the turns. Mileage and speed is pretty dang good for a middle class SUV. They said 0-60 in around 6.6 seconds but sometimes it feels even faster than that. You can speed off freeway ramps and merge with no problems. I got the interior lighting for my GLB and it makes everything come alive at night. I highly recommend it. It makes your night drives a little more fun and joyful. That said, easily I would give this car at least a 9/10. It’s fun to drive, night interior, A LOT of leg room and space, drives smooth and fast, and it looks pretty sick at night!

The usability an and ease to park to a 10/10. Not to mention if you or your guests are tall this is comfortable hauler. It’s main drawback is the transmission. If you have never had a Dual clutch auto, this one will frustrate you. It’s a bit clunky in 1st gear, sometimes it can make up its mind if it want to stay in gear or not however once rolling along it’s fine. My hope is they come out with an over the air update as it seems to be a tuning thing and not a bad part. All things considered, we have a BMW X3 , which we loved until we got the GLB. The ride and “greenhouse” is far superior and will be selling the x3 very soon.

We did a lot of shopping around and ultimately decided to get our first Mercedes — the GLB. We’ve had it for a few weeks now and love it even more as we slowly learn how to use all the included technology! It’s really amazing with all its features — it feels like we’re driving a spaceship! In sport mode, it is very peppy and fun to drive. Most importantly, it is the perfect size for us with it fitting 4 very comfortably and having a cargo area in the back for all of our stuff. We also got the pop up 3rd row just in case and AWD so it can handle any adventure we decide to undertake!

After 15 years of driving an economical Toyota Prius Hybrid, I took on a “gas guzzler” in the GLB–250. The first fill up with higher octane gas was a sticker shock! The vehicle, on moving after a complete stop, seems to hesitate a bit. Once moving, however, the power of the engine is impressive and the styling is very nice! The electronic features are cool and the “light” feel and handling of this Mercedes is different from other Benz models that I’ve owned.

So happy with this purchase, former GLC owner and have always loved the quality and detail by Mercedes Benz. I love the tech options on this car. So many things come standard and the upgrades aren't budget killers. It's modern, fun, lots of headroom and love the displays. Have not noticed the lag by online reviews by popular company reviewers, but then again, I am not in a race at Indianapolis either.

Could not believe we were able to purchase a Mercedes with theirs row seating for less than a Honda or Toyota SUV with 3rd row seating. And this SUV is leagues better than anything else we looked at and drove. You feel like your driving in a cloud. Smoothest ride. And the acceleration is amazing, feels like you have the power of an 8 cylinder. The dashboard looks like an IPAD. The third row seat comes incredibly handy. We just purchased a roof rack and bag to fit the luggage cargo space we lose when we use the third row seating. Not an inconvenience at all. Everything about this vehicle is fantastic.

I’ve owned this vehicle for more than 2 weeks. Yes, during this pandemic, I haven’t had a chance to drive a lot. However, I feel nice every time when I’m in the cabin. The interior is just unique. It’s kind of futuristic but it has something to make it not to look too futuristic. The exterior is exactly what I was looking for. It doesn’t look flashy and too futuristic. It looks just like a car. Since, I really don’t need a big car at all. Also, I don’t drive fast. It doesn’t bother me that this GLB is considered entry level and has less engine performance than midsize SUV. It has everything I need. So you can’t rely on me, even though the car is slower than this, it still has everything that I need. That being said, I have no comments regarding engine and class. MBUX is nice. It can do a lot of things so I can focus more on the road. One downside is the doors. You do need to slam a bit and I don’t feel good when I slam the door. I don’t want people to think that I’m upset ;)

This is definitely by far the best SUV from Mercedes. It is a perfect all-rounder with versatility and high technology. Interior quality is beyond expectations, even though in some cases better materials should have been used. Ride quality is also perfect. The only criticism related to pricing: the base model should normally cost at least 10,000 more if you consider the offers from the competition. However, adding one or two extra packages can skyrocket the price.

If you have a new GLB, look at where the second stanchion on the luggage rack meets the top of the car roof. There are dents on both sides about 9” in diameter and 1/2” deep. Mercedes position is it’s part of the design. I wanted protection on my lease so I wouldn’t be responsible when returning the car. They won’t provide it, since it’s an approved design detail. Since when are dents an approved design detail? I went back to the dealership and all GLB’s have this problem including the AMG’s. Poor quality control, what else did they skimp on?
