Used 2019 Mazda CX-5 Consumer Reviews
A Soul Red CX-5 that has great technology
When I was shopping for this vehicle, I had very specific requirements. I was looking for a Mazda CX-5 FWD Touring with Soul Red Crystal Metallic exterior and Silk Beige interior without any other options. I live in central Maryland and searched every dealership in the area. Most had a few with the exterior color, some had both exterior color and interior color. However, no one had all of my requirements. Most dealers had very few, if any, FWD CX-5s. All of the FWD CX-5s had the Touring Preferred Equipment package which added over $1,500 to the price. The primary upgrades were a 10-speaker Bose radio, moon roof and power lift gate. I didn't think it was worth the additional cost. Therefore, I searched all the Mazda dealers within about 300 miles (on www.Mazdausa.com using the inventory search) and found only one vehicle. My local dealership got it for me and I am very pleased with the vehicle. I am 70 years old and have owned many different makes and models of vehicles and have only owned one make more than once; Mazda! This makes my third. I traded a 2004 Mazda6 with 90,000 miles. I have owned this Mazda CX-5 since 2019 (making it four years old). I have just over 30,000 miles on the car and am still loving it. It is very interesting that many of the car manufacturers have adopted the great looking paint color. I still get compliments on the vehicle. I am averaging about 32 miles per gallon in everyday driving. The car is still a delight to drive. I haven't had the opportunity to drive a new one, but they appear to be virtually the same. I am still glad I purchased this car and plan to drive it for many more years.

Go for the CX9
Traded in a cx9 for a cx5 because we wanted a smaller car. What a mistake. The cx9 was real luxury. The cx5 is a bumpy ride, noisy and an annoying transmission that always seems like it is struggling to get to the next gear

Mazda is finally grown up
Rented the touring version and found the car very well equipped with leather seats, Bose audio, safety features like lane departure and blind spot assist. An 8 speed transmission would make this car so much more fun to drive. The downside of this vehicle after having it for a week is that the sport selector on the gear selectors is pretty much not usable. When moved over to sports, the gear would kicked down and hold for a long time, keeping the motor running at very high rev until a certain speed is reached. That could take a long time in busy traffic and it’s annoying. Also, the placement of the center console screen button is located very inconveniently behind the gear selector, making it hard to reach. Other than that, the ride is smooth, build quality is solid and the interior looks luxurious.
Transmission Failed
Completely disappointed by Mazda. We bought our 2014 Mazda CX-5 from a dealership. It's been OK over the last 5 years, though not exceptional. The MPG dropped about a year after owning it, it bugged me that the back seats dont fold truly flat, and it seems that we keep running into issues earlier than we should. In the last two years we have had to replace the battery, the alternator, and just now the Transmission! The car has 70K miles on it. From my experience, I should not have to replace a transmission at 70K miles. I had my mechanic take a look and see if he could find any reason for the transmission to kick the bucket at this young age. No indication. I towed the car to the Mazda dealership I purchased it from. This is where it gets "fun": 1) My warranty ended less than 6 months ago, but the technician says corporate will usually accommodate something when it so soon after it ended. 2) The technician agreed it's pretty early for the transmission to fail. 3) It's $6000.00 to replace!!! So I wait a couple days to hear back from their corporate about the warranty coverage. NOTHING. They will help in no way for a car I purchased from their dealer (not a 3rd party), has low mileage to encounter this issue, AND my warranty isn't even 6 months passed. I could understand them not covering the whole cost because it's outside of warranty. But to cover nothing for their customer who has continued to support their company these past years?! They also gave no reason why they would not help out even a little. The technician found me a cost saving measure of replacing with a used transmission which will cost $3700 instead of $6000.... But that used transmission has 60K miles; mine failed at 70K. We are fixing, selling, and never buying Mazda again. They just lost our business to Honda or Volvo.

Absolute garbage
You would think a brand new vehicle would be good enough to last longer than 2 years. Nope both engine and transmission failure in the first 12 months. Also take 3 minutes for infotainment to start up and it is ridiculous that infotainment is not touch screen by now. Buyer beware!!!!!
