Fun, Smooth, and Loud
I'll cut right to the chase. This is arguably the best-looking car on the road right now, at least with the red paint job. The car feels extremely planted on the highway, and the g-force generated by turning is strangely addictive. Power steering is light for day-to-day driving, but tightens up a bit when you push it. You feel every bump on the road, but I like that, as it makes you feel connected to the road, and there is certainly no chassis wiggle after hitting bumps. Definitely wind noise above 45mph or so, and I have noticed the back window creaking for the first 10-15 minutes of driving on a very cold day. Headlights could be stronger, but are adequate, and base sound system is great.
So far, so good
I have had my Mazda 6 Grand Touring for 1 month. No issues so far. This is my third Mazda, and I purchased this after very positive experience with my Miata and CX-9. Before purchasing, I test drove a BMW 3 series w x-drive and turbo 4 cylinder, Hyundai Genesis, Hyundai Azera, and Mercedes CLA. Results: I was underwhelmed by the BMW experience for the $, and the fact that it required premium fuel. The Genesis was nice but felt heavy and gets mediocre fuel economy, plus it was rear drive. Mercedes CLA was OK but I did not care for the interior. With Mazda 6 equipment, it would be $40k.

A worthy contender from Mazda
The new 6 is a strong step forward for Mazda. The design is ambitious, the build technology is advanced, and the features are highly competitive. Even the sport is well-equipped and sturdily built. The doors feel solid and the trim and dash are constructed of high-quality, low-gloss materials. My immediate gripes are not having a good place to rest my left elbow (I'm 6'4" so the seat is far back) a gearbox that up shifts too early, and an elevated level of cabin noise on the highway. I also am skeptical of the mpg claims since my driving so far has produced a 27 mpg average and I've been trying to maximize. The Diesel engine ought to achieve good numbers, though.
Get the base model iSport with 6 speed manual !
Absolutely no frills. Cloth seats and a stick. Just what I was looking for. Not terribly quick until your put a tuned cold air intake and a performance exhaust in it. Now it's very quick. These two add ons do not void the warranty and cost a mere $ 690 installed-highly recommedend Everyone is sniveling about the crummy touchscreen and electronics. I didn't want any of it. I wanted to drive Great looking sexy exterior- Kodo design is a game changer in the boring world of affordable midsize sedans.

Solid fun
I have driven 3000 miles. Best highway mpg was 41! In slow big city traffic 27. This is a tight responsive, beautiful car. Good solid power, great handling, wonderful seats and a joy to drive. The manual is precise and engaging. The stereo is a little weak. The Sport is a real bargain. Way better mpg and improved handling over manual 2010 Accord coupe it replaced. I am very happy with this car and I like that I don't see them on every block. I got asked if it was a Tesla!
