what a great car to drive! have the sports package mazda 6 and you don't drive the car, the car drives you. the handling of this car rivels anything that NASCAR has. it is just amazing. seats could be a little more comfortable for those longer trips. also the arm rest could be longer for us females that have to move the seat closer to the gas pedal.
Very satisfied.
This Mazda has BMW-like handling at a lower cost. Reliability has been much better than domestics I have owned. The exterior still looks like new and the interior (leather) has held up well too. This car should last me another 6 to 7 years easily. I still enjoy driving it every day.

Almost Bought One
I agonized over my Altima vs. 6 decision last March and ended up with the Alt. Just recently, I rented for a 6 and this convinced me that I made the right choice. The 6 is nice and sporty, but the Altima is more handsome and just all around nicer to drive. I didn't like the 6's seats back then and I still don't.
Gett'in out of mazda 6
My husband and i purchased this car 6 months and 9,400 miles ago. For us it was the BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER!!! There is so much noise, brakes, steering, suspension, driver door...not to mention the squeeling from the belts, and the brake dust, which is outragous!! But dealer says brake dust,belts....everything is normal!!This was our first Mazda, but i'm afraid it might be our last, especially since it is in PERFECT condition fully loaded with everything and the dealer only once to give us 13,000!!!I know every car deppreiates, but 10,000 in six months!! I guess it is time to go back to HONDA!!!
A fine addition
The 6 addresses the ride shortcomings of the Protege, almost hovering in comparion. Wind noise is nonexistent, road noise is largely muted, though there is a slight hint of pavement quality transmitted through the steering wheel. The real charm of the car lies in the thoughtful interior design. The two- tiers center console, centar stack storage compartment, bottle holders in the doors, and other torage cubbies provide lot of options. The spring- loaded rear seats fold flat, and can be released from either a button on the seatback or a lever by the rear hatch.
One of Many
I've been driving Mazda's since 1974. I have yet to be disappointed. The Mazda 6 is even more than I expected. Next....RX8!
Best Overall Sports Sedan
This car is totally fun to drive. Handling is great. Power is great. Cabin is spacious and easy on the eyes. Mine came with the Bose audio package which is OK. Overall, this car deserves high ratings. This car is definitely more appealing than any other sedan out there in the market today that is around the same price range. Each angle of the car is very striking and aggressive. Its design screams "sports".
Blak Mazda6 2004
I had a problem with low-end torque in my Mazda 6s (manual). There was not enough and I often stalled the car. I added an Injen Cold Air Intake and the problem is solved. Added about 25 horsepower too! Zoom-Zoom!!!
Good value
I have owned my car for 18 months and have enjoyed the experience. Fun to drive and very sporty. Comfortable over the long trip. I just bought new tires after 43,000 miles as I plan to keep this one for a while longer.
Great
I bought a Mazda 6i (manual) last month. The seats are comfortable and adjustable. The tilt and telescoping wheel is nice. The cabin is generally quiet. Cargo space is more than enough. The handling is great and I now understand what people mean by a car communicating with its driver. Shifting in lower gears is a bit of a pain at times, and with low end torque not special, the car is most fun once in 3rd gear. Braking is solid. Sweeping curves are a lot of fun. Gas mileage is good. I have yet to see another Mazda6 on the road since I bought it almost a month ago. Uniqueness, is a very good thing in my opinion.
Mazda 6s
I drive 20,000 miles a year and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever with this vehicle. The performance is sensational. This car handles like it's on rails. The traction control actually works! This vehicle is very predictable in the snow and rain. Overall terrific value. I highly recommend this vehicle.
My 6 - Zoom Zoom
I've had this car for about 7 months and I have loved every minute of it. It was a true head turner. Outstide of the looks, the performance is top notch. I have the 4-cylinder manual transmission and it is just a fun car to drive. The cornering is tremendous, the kick at 3000 rpms is a true crowd pleaser, and the overall responsiveness of the car is great. Anybody that wants to know about this car should check that out and most of you're questions will be answered. Well I've gone on long enough about the car, but there is just so much to say. If you have any further quesitons feel free to go to the forum (www.mazda6club.com).
Slowly Decaying Mazda
Where do I begin.... Well at first I loved the car. I bought it with 5500 mile on it, now I have 18550. In this 10 months I have been to the dealership numerous times for maintenance. The headlights kept burning out, I had problems with my catalytic converter, air mass flow sensor, and now the transmission is bogging. If you want to change your cd player you have to buy a $300 dash kit because Mazda designed it that way. Also Mazda is one of the few companies that has no iPod integration kits. Also they're resale value is horrible. All in all I feel I was misrepresented when I bought this car. "Soul of a Sportscar"... Hah...more like "Soul of a Hoopty". This was my first and last Mazda ever.
Mixed Bag
I am easy on my vehicles and drive them for 10-12+ years. I hope this car passes the Toyota quality/dependability test. Inside quality seems good (although the small door forward of the shift lever comes unhinged and a lens on the lower driver door light fell out) Controls for the HVAC are dumb. Did any of the designers try to work these things? Knobs either need to project farther and have knurling on them or they need to be rotary dials. Ditto for the radio. The same goes for the multi-function stalks. Move the rear wiper to the dash and simplify. Fuel mileage stinks. I would like to see the 4 cylinder and 16" tires available in the full tilt wagon pkg. I hope reliability is good.
TERRIFIC CAR
Was glad to move up from a Mazda 626 4-cyl. to this 6 cyl. model--no problems merging onto an interstate in this car! Have the 5 speed version. I call this my Volvo station wagon on steroids--it reminds me of the Volvo 245 station wagon I had years ago: solid, dependable, safe. But the Mazda adds: acceleration, handling, pizazz.
nearly perfect family car for 4
This is a practical, fun, fast and economical car. No problems. Fuel economy has been 22 city and 28-30 hwy. The manual says gas tank should hold 18 gallons, but only holds 16.5. No wheel lock key came with the car, which caused surprise when time came to change tires. Not much range/warning when low fuel light comes on.
first time Mazda owner
After a lot of research, we bought our first Mazda. A sepang green metallic Mazda 6 with the sport package. After taking it on the first long weekend trip, we are amazed at the excellent gas mileage it got. We were concerned about pick up being that it was a V4, but our worries were put to rest. We traveled on heavy traffic highways, and passed any vehicle with ease. There were many times we caught ourselves going 80 without even realizing it, that is how smooth and powerful the ride was. We would recommend this vehicle to anyone, without hesitation, and that is what we didn't have with this Mazda 6 ......hesitation :) zoom - zoom
5 doors of fun
Excellent car! Fast, fun, and comfortable. Handling on this car is great, not a great deal of body roll on hard cornering, in fact you don't hear the tires squeal! Great acceleration, no brake fade, the Bose audio system is "da bomb"! The hatch makes it easy for us to carry 2 sets of golf clubs and luggage. The styling of the car, screams fast! Can't wait until they increase the horsepower and have a 6-speed manual transmisson!
03 mazda 6i
i bought my dark gray 4cylinder 6i in late october 2003 the rebates made it too sweet an offer to pass on...i love everything about the car with the exception of the fact that i bought the automatic instead of the 5speed to ensure better resale or trade in value...i only drive it in manual mode...which actually is a lot more fun than other vehicles i tested with this feature...believe it or not..im thinking about trading up to the v6 5speed fully loaded version...i tested the verona, accord, camry,galant...the 6 won
Run Ride
I drove a Honda Accord before the Mazda 6- This car is much more responsive and a gas to drive.
So good, but so bad...
I thought for a while before I wrote this. And I think my title describes my 6s perfectly. It really is all good, and all bad. Great to drive, sharp looking, so much more exciting than an Accord/Camry type. But I've experienced horrible reliability problems from day one. Brakes replaced twice. CD player not working. Engine fan. Power locks. Etc. I haven't even begun to describe the horrible build quality--rattles in the dashboard, driver's seat, passenger's seat, sunroof, headliner, glove box. I used to own a VW Jetta, and joked that it was like a beautiful girlfriend who treated you like dirt--you cared and cared, and it never cared back. My 6 is just as bad. I'll never buy a Mazda again.
Sharp 6
I love my 2003 MAzda6i. As soon as i got in this car for a test drive i fell in love! The way it looked inside and out, the sporty feel, the automanual transmission, and just the little features that most car company's just look over (like the steering wheel controls)all of this made me a buyer. I love it when i go somewhere and people are looking at my car and they go "what is that?" Then they say "man that thing is sharp!" My husband and i fight over who is going to get to drive it for the day :-). As long as this car is reliable i will have it for a while.
Great car so far
Acquired used 2 years ago with 28k miles & it has been very reliable thus far. Only issues I've had are dead pixels on the LCD display (Mazda replaced unit free under warranty) & lately the throttle has been irregular on cold start which lasts until it's warmed up. Performance slightly above average, as is gas mileage (in 90% city traffic). As for the iPod integration complaints, it IS possible (mine works great) - it's just not easy. You need an adapter (which isn't cheap, about $200), & you need to solder a jumper on the L716 location of the HU because Mazda never made the CD changer port active in the stereo.
Great Bang for the Buck!
Bought this car new for my wife in early 2004. We broke it in by driving it from Colorado Springs, CO to Anchorage, AK via Canada. It has never let us down, always been a great car
2004 Mazda6
The Mazda6 is fun to drive. You may lose some tires because of the low clearance in some poorly maintained New York streets. The car does not like severe rain downpours either. I lost a fan blade that hit the radiator and pierced it during a rainstorm. The Mazda dealer said it was an "act of God." and the warrantee was not honored. I wrote mazda at no avail. Good car, poor service and a company that is not consumer oriented. I would not recommend it. A calm, careful driver.
CUPID'S REVIEW
I LOVE THIS CAR. IT IS FUN AND RELIABLE. IT'S SPORTY AND I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR THIS FUN.
Love my little Zipper
I bought this car used with 34k miles. I really lucked up and got a great deal on it. Plus it's fully loaded (sports trim, leather seats, power, tint, spoiler, sunroof, Bose stereo, etc.). I LOVE THIS CAR!! I'm definitely a driver's driver. I love the handling, especially on curves (barely have to slow down on exit ramps). The speed is great, you feel like you're going 40 at 60 mph. I've put nearly 20k miles on it in the year and a half that I've had it. Including a 1500 mile road trip. I was comfortable the entire trip there and back. I saw a few people have had some mechanical issues with theirs, but other than a headlight bulb needing replacing, I've had no issues.
Great car
At 3,400 miles the car was struck in the rear on a highway and sent head on into a concrete barrier at near full highway speed. Every crumple point gave and passenger compartment stayed intact. Front was gone and part of the driver rear panel was embedded in the hood of the car that hit me. Was worth every star in its 5 star rating. Super built car for safety. Going to get another.
2004 Sport Wagon
Purchased used with 56K on it. Love the handling and the styling. Different than the typical midsize car. I get a lot of double takes when driving it. Handles as well as my BMW 528it. Good size vehicle. Comfortable ride and good visibility. Only have had the oil changed, no problems yet. Plenty of get up and go, but the mileage could be better. I drive mostly interstate and have been averaging 26-27 MPG. I used to get nearly 30 MPG on the Bimmer, and it was bigger and heavier. It is noisier on the road, but this could be the tires on it. Two are OEM and two are different brand. I like the dash lighting.
my baby
This car drives so smooth, it feels like your in a lincoln or any big body style car!!! They way it drives on the highway is almost dangerous.....Its so smooth i get up to 125 so quickly and i can't even feel it! I love this car and i am so glad i bought it.
Great car, but unreliable at times
I've owned my Mazda6s hatchback for 3.5 years now. It's been a good, not great car. I love the looks and sportiness versus the Accord and Camry - a fun car for a young dad. However, I've had several maintenance issues that have kept the car in the shop more than I would have liked - starter, water pump, radiator all had to be replaced, axle seal leaking, among other things. It was all covered by warranty, but still a pain. On top of all this, my gas mileage is less than I hoped, around 15 mpg when I was hoping for closer to 20 mpg.
Excellent
My husband and I bought a Mazda 6 because he thought it was cool, and I love it! It is a hip family vehicle.
Fun, But Thirsty
Based on extensive Edmunds.COM research, I decided to purchase an '04 6s Wagon. I considered the Outback Impreza, but at 6'1" and desiring a powerful V6, I went with the Mazda. I love the style of the car and the power of the V6, but have noticed pretty horrendous gas mileage since day 1 (17-22 mpg (max)). There is a ton of cargo space in this car. I can fit a full adult bike, golf clubs, and luggage for 2 for a week with the seats folded down. Long road trips are pretty comfortable, although the low ground clearance makes getting in and out cumbersome. Recently, thick plumes of gray smoke emit upon startup. Dealer is perplexed. 3 weeks in the shop on 3 occasions yielded nothing.
Good Value
Before buying this car I had done a lot of research on cars in its class and for the money there is no car that even compares. My particular car is fully loaded and still costs less than any of its competitors. My car has the manual gearbox that shifts perfectly, and the v6 motor that has not great power but the a range of power that makes it feel sporty. The engine makes a decent note with the stock exhaust. The clutch has great feel. Stiff enough to have fun on the track but soft enough that your left leg wont shadow your right. The Handling is amazing. Very limited body roll but then road noise at highway speed is very loud. Overall a great car for the money.
Zooming along in Lefthandland
I bought my 2004 glacier silver metallic 5-door (V6, 5-speed manual) in December '04 and have put nearly 3,000 miles on it. This is my first Mazda (previous VW Golf owner) and I'm really happy with the car so far - excellent handling and performance. Test drove several other Japanese makes and the Mazda drove and handled closest to a German or European automobile. Unlike some other reviewers who reported poor mileage, I've been averaging a very decent 27.5 mpg (70 percent highway, 30 percent city driving). Major options on my car: side impact air bags, sunroof, Bose sound system. There is very little I don't like about it. This car is a 'sleeper'! Zoom, zoom! :-)
Gas Guzzler
Did Mazda six stand for 6 miles to a gallon less than advertised? Used to own Plymouth Breeze that got on average 5 miles to gallon better. I've had it in the shop 3 times now for a rattle coming out of the dash when AC/defrost is on. Dealership still doesn't know what it is, and even tried to bill me for a $130 on the first look because they said it was leaves jammed up in the cabin air filter. Probably will look at a different make and will sell this off before I pay out my lease. Other than looking good, car seems a little less than average. For 10,000 miles, I wouldn't have expected to be in the shop 4 times to fix things.
Great Midsize Value
This car has certainly impressed me with it's level of refinement for paying just a little more than $18,000 with 0% interest. The chasis and suspension are superb, making highway cruising quite and comfortable and back road twisties a real joy. The clutch and shifter work well, although there is a little too much clutch travel for my liking. Fit and finish seem to be excellent inside and out. The new for 2004 2.3L 4 cyl. engine is smooth, responsive, and turns in respectable gas milage (29-30 mpg mixed driving) I opted for the sport package in sepang green with Bose audio system.
Great!!
I love this car!!
Good, but not that good
I purchased my Mazda in Jan of 2005 new. I was a great price and I could not resist it. However, the had problems within the first year of owning the it. I had to replace the tires after 20K of driving. In year 2 I had to replace the breaks. I also noticed that I was getting less than 300 miles to the tank, which was pretty sad considering I drive mostly highway at 70-75 mph. Now, I am by no means an aggressive driver these types of issues should not happen in such a short amount of time. In year 3 my battery died, but what got me was that I had to replace the shock. I traded this one in for a Honda, but I think I got a lemon on this one.
Not too bad
Bought car new. I think the automatic shifter is a little sloppy. When traveling at slow speed (like slowing down to turn) if I give it the gas to zip through my turn it will kinda lag. Or not downshift as I feel it should. Note if in manual mode no issue whatsoever. At 73000 miles my wheel bearings went. This turned into a month long nightmare with another area dealer trying to fix it. Took 4 return trips for them to finally figure out that one wheel bearing they replaced was bad. And by that point they also had to replace a hub as well. But they did get it fixed and not charge me any extra to fix. All in all I do like this car. If you like playing twister then getting into car should be ok
Recall Poster Card
Not since the Ford Pinto has a car been recalled so many times. I have owned the car less than a year and it has already been recalled 4X. In addition the clutch failed after 8 months. The car has been in the shop for approximately 2weeks total. The dealership has been good in fixing the problems and has provided a loaner car but the quality definitely needs improvement. One other thing why are there no rear speakers, this is almost unheard of to have only two front speakers.
Worst Car I have ever owned
Riddled with problems. Built-in fogging problems, rattle ,visor, alignment, etc. Buy this if you want headache. Expect to visit the dealor a lot for warranty repairs.
Great Car!
The "fun to drive" rating is no joke. I love getting behind the wheel. I dream about it. I upgraded from a '00 Ranger, so it has plenty of performance for me. The 6 is a good buy for the money. I went with the luxury package, sport package w/spoiler, moonroof, and the Bose package plus a few add ons -- more features than I honestly expected to be available and my sale price was still under $25K.
zoom zoom boom
Had the car 38 days cell went bad. waited 96 days and they still had not got the part I am in the process of lemoning the vehicle.
great fun for the money
great handling, good performance, good price,needs6th gear as 3300 rpm high at 75mph.only bad point is brake dust all over wheels every 400 miles.Gas milage not as good as previously owned Chysler Concorde3.3 on the highway.Great fun to drive quotion makes up for it though.
FUN-FUN!
I love this car! It is awesome and it's so much sportier than the 626 ever was, which was what I drove before. I agree Mazda is still managing to keep the ZOOM-ZOOM in their cars to make them FUN-FUN-FUN!! I especially like the 6 because not only is it fun, it's safe for my 3 year old son to ride in!
A really fun-to-drive family sedan.
I REALLY enjoy driving this car. The handling is really tight and the car LOVES twisty roads and high revs. Pluses: Driveability, seating comfort, performance (at high revs). Minuses: Base-level stereo is only OK, turning radius is wide, fuel economy is mediocre (~24). The interior is nice if a bit bland, but the seats are quite comfy. The controls and gauges are well-designed and easy to reach/read. Coming up on 17k miles and everything is still tight, no rattles, so reliability so far has been good. I marked down the performance because of a slight lack in low-end torque, but with the 5-speed sport-auto transmission it's easy to keep the revs where you want them when you want to really drive.
Fun car, but don't get cloth upholstery
Purchased the 6s 5 speed loaded with everything but leather. After 9,000 miles and six months of ownership my impressions are: - great handling for a 4-door sedan. - very comfortable ride for a sport type suspension. - needs more low end torque, but really moves out once you hit 3rd gear. - engine idles very quiet. - Bose stereo option is very good but not great. - the cloth seat coverings are starting to fray and pill. I should have gone with the leather.
L's Six
This is the best sports sedan I have ever owned including my Maxima and my Camry. The interior and exterior styling is awesome and the handling is out of this world. Mazda has manufactured a top-of-the-line sports sedan for a very reasonable price. The only thing that I can see that could be improved is the sound system.
Best Car I ever Owned!
I've had Hondas, Nissans, Toyotas and VW's. This Mazda 6S fully loaded with shiftronic is the best car I've ever owned. It is extremely stylish, roomy, fun to drive, comfortable and quick. Love the sound of the dual pipes with the manual auto shifting. Bravo Mazda!
