Fun To Drive
I have the 3.0 V-6 Mazda 6 S. This car wants to go. You'll want to drive it in a low gear around town, so that the revs are up, and the horsepower is available. At low revs, it doesn't have much snap. But if you are cruising at 3,000 rpm, you can seriously surprise some of those high-priced sedans you're running next to.
this is one fun sporty seden
if you are looking for outstanding value in the mid size sporty seden this is it under 25k, s model v6 5 speed stick is the only way to go, comfort for 4 people and great looking car take it from me i had a 98 honda accord now that car was boring. This 6 i never get tried driving the car or looking at from all sides buy the 6 japan version of bmw!
- s 4dr HatchbackMSRP: $6,99512 mi away
- i SedanMSRP: $3,999115 mi away

Fun, practical, could be more efficient
This car is fun to drive and the hatchback version is very practical. A few things could have been better, like auto window buttons but this is a fine car and has been very reliable. The average gas mileage is probably only 19 mpg so this is probably the biggest shortcoming I can find.
The Ideal car...
This car is put together nicely. I can't imagine a four dour handling any better. It has okay power from a stop, but impressive power while on the move. In comparison to everything else like honda, toyata, nissan, and so forth, the 6 is a much better bargain. To get the V6 in the other competing models is much more expensive, and in the end all you would be paying for is a LITTLE more pick up from a stand still. Is that really worth a couple thousand? Not when you consder how well the 6 handles.
My Precious
Excellent handling makes this car not only fun to drive but a responsibility to drive it well and hard. It demands nothing less then tight turns and hilly roads so it can show you what it is to have a blast while driving.
Cool Car!
My only problem is the tranmission is very rough when switching gears especially in the mornings. I ahve the automatic. Other than that LOVE the car!
mazda6 review
better handling than my 98 trans am
rating on my 6
just bought it wish it had more HP
Going on second 100,000
Bought new in 04, traded in a Passat which was nice but had electrical problems. The "6" has been one of my favorite cars of my 30 plus years of driving. It is the only car i have actually kept for 100,000 miles and I plan to keep it another 100,000. I have done one spark plug replacement, one battery, new front brakes including calipers (ouch) about to put on the third set of tires Yokohama Avid 4vs got 55,000 miles better and cheaper than stock Michelins, and regular fluid changes. Leather still looks good, paint is great. Just had the radiator flushed and while at the dealer sat in a new 09--nice car a little bigger all the way around but it doesn't have the handy two stage console. Picky
Great Car
My wife and I bought our '04 used, it had 90,000km on it, We've had it for about 3 weeks now and it's been a dream driving it. We shopped for over 1 year and found this to be the perfect car. We have a 9 month old daughter and needed a car that was big enough for everything we had to lug around, as well as be fun to drive. The 6 hit the mark. With the car seat in the center of the back seat (due to side airbags deployed from front seats) there is still enough room to put the front seats all the way back. The 3L V6 is a little big for what we wanted, but with the 5 speed manual, it's a lot of fun to drive and so far the fuel mileage seems to be good, even in cold winter driving (Canada).
Disappointed
Original Owner. Well Maintained commuter car. 50K miles. 6 Cyl. 5sp manual. Loaded. Squeaks and rattles everywhere. Lots of problems: Trany, Engine replacement, Brakes, exhaust, electrical, engine performance, suspension, steering, seat breaking, to name a few. Approx 20 times / year to dealers a year on average. Bad Dealer experiences(not very knowledgeable, poor service, poor quality work) and Mazda Customer Service did not seem to care. So much for Mazda advertising quality and taking care of the customer. Not in my experience. Did not like them doing computer updates without my permission. Hurt car's performance and they refused to reverse the updates.
Great car
I don't know why people complaining about MPG, mine gets 25 in average - superb for 3.0L. It was 3 years last months and I'm reaching 81K mark soon. Nothing was broken and had to be replaced, no smell from oil change, etc.
Great Car
I've had it now for 8 months and still can't wait to drive it every morning. Great all-aroud vehicle and more stylish than the plain looking Accords and Camry's. The manual transmission really complments the cars engine, more fun than ever driving this car. Zoom- Zoom
A gorgeous sedan
I wanted a V6 5-speed with no options and since there are no such cars on any dealer's lot, I had to order. But the wait was worth it. My lapis blue Mazda 6 is beautiful, handles like it's on rails, and is quite fast above 3,000 RPM. If you're into performance and looks, you won't find any better sedan at $19,200.
love it so far
Great car. Have the Stee Gray Metallic with cloth interior. Also got the appearance package with abs/traction control. Really fun to drive. Much sportier than the Honda Accord I use to drive. Much more than I expected as far as ride and handling
nice car
Bought this car (2004 S sedan) as a demo, Got it for my wife. great car. have driven it 66,000 miles and have had 0 problems. It needed a new driver seat, but they replaced it under warranty. It still has the factory brakes on it. The interior is a little cramped for bigger folks.
Awesome Ride!
I bought this car new and have never regretted it. It is THE best car I've ever owned and plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off. With 73k miles on it so far the only things I've done were normal wear and tear items, new brakes, tires and a battery. I did have to have the radio antenna replaced because I knocked the old one off while washing the car. She still looks great and I get lots of comments on how nice it is. Not a rattle on her and she drives like a dream. It's a shame that the big 3 can't build them this good. Sporty style with a very comfortable interior. I'm 6' and weigh 280 pounds and am very comfortable in this car.
Should have thought twice
The 6s is a blast to drive, but the quality isn't very good. I have under 6000 miles on the car and have had to have the dash board, the steering column, the center console, the radio, and the defroster replaced. The problem has come back among other terrible rattles in the back of the car along with problems the technicians caused. Other than the poor quality the car drives great, just crank up the tunes and try to zone out all the rattles. The body of the 6 is awesome with the sports grille and body kits you can get. If I had to do it again I would have gone with the accord or tsx.
Great car for $$$
For the $$$ you can't beat. Plus, it has unique style that sets it apart from camry's, accords, and other mass- produced 4 doors that old people drive. Power is only good up top so you need to keep it there if you want to have fun. Handling is excellent - I owned a 91' 300ZX and this handles just as good. Interior style is good, though quality of materials is lacking. This is my third MAZDA - I will definitely purchase again. They seem to be the only manufacturer that can put all of the right peices together in one package. Not necessarily the best in any one category, but I feel it is best all- around.
Fun Car To Drive
So far I have 4000+ miles driven on this car. I have an automatic. Very fun car to drive. The handling is great. A little slow off the line, but it really moves on the highway. Great passing power. Very sharp looking car. Has very nice brakes. Best in its class. Nice bang for the bucks! If you don't want a Honda or a Toyota, this will be a nice alternative.
eat that honda
Im am a high school student who showed up a few months before graduation with a brand new mazda 6. What a mistake that was, I had to beat the people away from my car with a stick. This car was built for perfection and comes very closer and much closer than its competiors. I drove the Altima, Accord, and the Camry. The Altima was the only one from the bunch that was not as boring as the rest but it still also lacked something sportiness. Then came the Mazda 6 which hit on everything the other cars were doing and then kicked it up a not.
The Other 6
This is our 2nd Mazda6 purchase in the last 9 months (see 5 doors of fun - we previously purchased the 5-door hatch). The wagon is just as quick and as much fun to drive and I think the wagon has a quieter ride. Braking and handling is very good, wagon corners like our hatch as well. At 6'5" tall, I have all of the room I need. The leather seats are a godsend in Cleveland winters. The car looks fantastic. We receive many compliments on the 6's, from its styling to the great colors (the wagon is Steel Metallic Gray, hatch is the Blazing Copper)! If you don't want plain vanilla (Accord or Camry), grab a 6 and enjoy the zoom-zoom experience!
sweet ride
This car is awesome. Mazda did a great job designing this car.
Bang for the buck
I bought my Mazda 6 used and have had it for 2 1/2 years.. The car has been a pleasure to own everything has been beyond expectations.. The car has plenty of power and great MPG I avg 26-27 mpg with the V-6 something hard to find now days. The car is just right for the the new dad, that still wants something sporty to put the baby seat in. The car has been 100% reliable not a single problem and the inside of these things is so nice looks like a vehicle that would cost so much more.
Almost Bought One
I agonized over my Altima vs. 6 decision last March and ended up with the Alt. Just recently, I rented for a 6 and this convinced me that I made the right choice. The 6 is nice and sporty, but the Altima is more handsome and just all around nicer to drive. I didn't like the 6's seats back then and I still don't.
Great Car to Drive
I have owned this car for 6 months. There have been no problems with the car in terms of build quality or fit and finish. The design looks great. The best thing about this car is driving it. The Mazda6 is a fun car to drive -- Zoom, Zoom.
Amazing
I test drove three other midsize cars the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Subaru Legacy. Since I wanted a manual transmission and a V6 engine the three didn't compare to the 6s. I even drove all three with auto trans the V6 engines and I still wasn't as impressed than when I drove the 6s. I'm very, very happy with my purchase, and I really look forward to my drive to work now.
Want great handling, this is the car...
Seats are very comfortable. Many different driving positions with tilt/telescoping steering column. Handling and braking are superb yet 17" rims compromise smooth city rides. Automatic tranee shifts flawlessly except at times of extremely rough accleration and braking. Braking in ALL weather conditions is extremely comforting with the ABS brakes. Radio and climate controls take ALOT of getting used to and have yet to become second nature even after two months. Storage is plentiful for maps, bottled water and coffee. Sharp car but needs tweeking here and there; MANY options that are only seen on more high end, costlier cars.....
The Hottest Car
I have not been driving it that long but I love. Its the coolest CAR !!!
Love my 6
This is my 3rd Mazda and they just keep getting better and better. The handling and control are precise. It is also a blast to drive.
Great Car
I looked at 12 diferent cars in the family sedan category and finally settled on the Mazda 6 with a 6 cylinder and the GFX package. I'm glad I took the time to test drive all those cars because in the end I believe I got the best looking car and best value in a family sedan . Love the Bose sound system. The car handles like a sports car, with precise steering ,nice qwiet ride, loads of trunk space. Thanks Ford and Mazda.
Really great car for the money!
I bought my Mazda at the end of May 2003... and I've loved it ever since. I use to have a 2001 Pontiac GTP... which had awesome horsepower, but the cheasy looks of the new one turned me off. The 6 has a more classy, but still sporty look... better size, great trunk space, decent acceleration for a 4 banger... but on the highway it rides super, and around highway RPMs it has ample power for passing.
Great Car!
I bought the car brand new. It has 90K miles on it now. I haven't had one problem with it so far. It has plenty of power. The rear spoiler really dresses up the car nice. It's an all round great sporty car to drive! I love it!
Great mid-size sedan
After looking at the Camry, the Accord adn toying with the idea of getting a Ford escape instead, I ended up with the Mazda 6 - 6 cyl, Auto w/ Appearance Package. Had it for 5 months now, already have 10,000 miles on it, and every drive is fun, fun, fun.
MZ6s
This car is a blast to drive. Love the performance and handling. The styling is the best out there in the sport sedan market.
My 6 - Zoom Zoom
I've had this car for about 7 months and I have loved every minute of it. It was a true head turner. Outstide of the looks, the performance is top notch. I have the 4-cylinder manual transmission and it is just a fun car to drive. The cornering is tremendous, the kick at 3000 rpms is a true crowd pleaser, and the overall responsiveness of the car is great. Anybody that wants to know about this car should check that out and most of you're questions will be answered. Well I've gone on long enough about the car, but there is just so much to say. If you have any further quesitons feel free to go to the forum (www.mazda6club.com).
Sporty meets Practicality
The only thing that surpassed the exterior design was the handling and feel for the road while driving. You can literally be merging the freeway on a very curved onramp and floor it, and it grips the turn flawlessly. The center console is by far the coolest feature of the car. The automatic climate control is a little buggy; it always turns on the AC even to raise the temperature, and therefore is unsuccessful. The rpm's really have to be 4,000+ in order to get the feeling like you're being thrown out of your seat, but it can be done. I should add that the car rides very well there and is perfectly happy being at 4,000 the entire trip.
almost perfect
the respose rate of 4-cylinder is not fast enough during acceleration. sport- type automatic transmission is not smooth enough. So if you know shift stick and have money to get a S-model, you'll have a perfect car!!
Mixed Bag
I am easy on my vehicles and drive them for 10-12+ years. I hope this car passes the Toyota quality/dependability test. Inside quality seems good (although the small door forward of the shift lever comes unhinged and a lens on the lower driver door light fell out) Controls for the HVAC are dumb. Did any of the designers try to work these things? Knobs either need to project farther and have knurling on them or they need to be rotary dials. Ditto for the radio. The same goes for the multi-function stalks. Move the rear wiper to the dash and simplify. Fuel mileage stinks. I would like to see the 4 cylinder and 16" tires available in the full tilt wagon pkg. I hope reliability is good.
Overall we love it
Bought this new and have over 50K on it after 4.5 years. Only issues have been an LCD display problem (very recently at the 4.5 year mark so it's out of warranty) and the plastic around the lower end of the steering wheel column rubbing against something and sometimes "creaking" very low as you drive -- otherwise the fit and finish of the car was/is excellent. We avoided the 6cyl version as that was a Ford engine with noted reliability issues. Besides being a little underpowered, the 2.3 4cyl has been excellent so we bought the same the next year in our Mazda5 (which has also been excellent after 50K miles). Overall we've been very pleased with our Mazda6 "Sport" (hatchback).

So Far.....So Good
Picked the vechile up at the beginning of November...I love it so far...I only have 800 miles on it but I love the sportsy feel and look of this vechile. I chose it over the Nissan Altima and Maxima...
MAZDA6 i hatch
Lots of features in an attractive package. Reliability unfortunately has declined just as Consumer Reports has indicated in the 6. Throttle problems and now a malfunction in the Bose stereo. A few rattles as well. My previous '90 MX-6 GT was a better car, actually the best car I ever owned. May trade it for a Toyota. I bought it due to the safety ratings.
Zooooooooommmmmmmmm!
One of the best car out there for the money! Have the Onyx Black. Very beautiful color. The 5-speed shifter is nice and smooth. Love the styling of both the interior and exterior. Even had an infiniti g35 sedan on order, but choose this because it had almost everything I wanted for $10000 less! Also considered Accord and Altima but this won me over. Extremely fun to drive.
Zoom Zoom with room
I had previously owned a Chevy Avalanche for my dj business. Even though I loved my truck, I felt it was time to downsize. I saw the Mazda wagon at the Chicago Auto Show. My wife and I liked the car very much. The next day, we bought one. She had a 2001 Protege so I knew about Mazda's reliability. This car handles all of my equipment without a problem. This car can really move and handle like a race car. I just love driving it. The color is Steel Gun Grey and it is fully loaded. Everyone I run into thinks it's a Dodge Magnum. The Dodge is too expensive and really isn't that much roomier than the 6. You really cannot beat the price of the 6 and everything you get for the money.
Great car
At 3,400 miles the car was struck in the rear on a highway and sent head on into a concrete barrier at near full highway speed. Every crumple point gave and passenger compartment stayed intact. Front was gone and part of the driver rear panel was embedded in the hood of the car that hit me. Was worth every star in its 5 star rating. Super built car for safety. Going to get another.
Mazda 6 Wagon Manual
Bought the 6 wagon after looking at the Subaru forester xt and the Legacy GT wagon, and a used a4 avant. The 6 was by far the best value, I could not make my self spend another $7000 for the Subie.... So far the car has been exceptional. Handels supurbly, acceleration is great fuel economy is actually really pretty good, depending on how you drive of course. Stlye was the best out of the cars I was looking at and comfort fit and finish are also sweet. I got the most basic 6 wagon you can get, manual with no other options and could not be happier.
My Mazda6
I bought my Mazda6 after selling Cadillac Eldorado. Wanted something with Europinian design. Interior and exterior design 10+. Driving is fun. My Cadillac had V8 and now I have V4 i do not regret that I have less HP. For daily work commute it is one of the best cars on the market. Plus, I didn't want to drive what most people drive: Honda Accord, Toyota Camry. My only complain: after 500 miles generator broke. I was upset because this is not what you would expect from the car with only 500 mile on it.
Wonderful car
Picked up a 6s manual fully loaded as a Xmas present to myself after months of research and test drives. I am thouroughly pleased with the car's handling, engine and interior. The rear spoiler is a little disco for me, but didn't want to wait 3 months for one without. The buying experience was good except the haggling over trade in value.
Great Bang for the Buck!
Bought this car new for my wife in early 2004. We broke it in by driving it from Colorado Springs, CO to Anchorage, AK via Canada. It has never let us down, always been a great car
