I bought my 2011 Mazda 2 new back in November 2010 and initially wrote a glowing review about fun it is drive. Well, it's fun...when it's not in the shop. Once I hit 15k I've had nothing but problems specially with the brakes. The dealer tells me they are safe and that they squeak because of the brake pad composition but why didn't they squeak for the first year? Squeaks at low and high speeds and is embarrassing. I also has to flush the transmission at 20k because the fluid it comes with is cheap junk. At 22,300 miles I'm trading for a Honda Fit this weekend. No more mazdas for this buyer. Don't buy this car; save your money, take on a bigger payment and get a car with a better warranty.

The car is great, but NOT with an automatic tranny. I would have bought the stick but my wife can't drive a stick. I miss my Echo, that was the best car I've ever owned. The ride is fine. But getting out into traffic is dangerous. The acceleration is very laggy. There's a delay. Going around corners is sketchy because throttle control is a guessing game. You step on the gas and it's a crapshoot what's going to happen. There's no gradual acceleration, it hits - reminiscent of a 2-stroke dirtbike. The cruise control buttons are my least favorite of all the types I've had. The fuel economy is not what I'd expect from a tiny car. The driver seat is all the way back and I'm 5'8".

I purchased my green Mazda 2 (2011) in 2014. In 2023 it now has over 250k kilometres on it, and it doesn't cost me a dime to drive except for the normal costs due to maintenance. Never, ever has this car let me down. I'm just getting the front brakes done this year. First time ever. Get lots of comments on this lovely green colour.

After owning the car for a few months I can confidently say it’s a great car. Not a good for long road trips but manageable. Is good for city driving and for blasting down the highway at fast speeds. The interior is not as bad as people make it out to be. If you take good care of it, the dash and interior will remain nice (obviously) The only complaint I have is after using the handbrake for so long it has become loose? The hand brake still works no problem but it wiggles from side to side if it’s off. The car has a good sound system and can handle heavy base or just loud music. Good car, drives and handles well.

Great car. Bought it with 104,000 miles, now have 144,000 miles. I bought it with an acceptable mecanical condition, that needed very much maintaining and changing parts. But again, bought it pretty cheap. The car runs very great. I have the automatic, yes it has long shifts and it's not the fastest or most responsive in the freeway, but going at about 70 mph or below no problem, in the city is where it shines. I have good driving habits, not a turtle but also rarely accelerate to the red line. It gets me about 29 mpg avg, which is great for a 4 speed with 144,000 miles, original engine, original tranny, and I would say I drive 50/50 city freeway. It has made 7 12 hr trips (i leave to go to college), and has been in rough roads. GREAT CAR. Just give it good maintenance! Oil changes, TRANSMISSION OIL CHANGES, air filter, clean the MAF, change the spark plugs every 3-4 years, and you'll see that this thing is good. Downsides: Obviously the size, but I would say given what you know you are buying, the suspension. I got it with a worn out suspension, and I've replaced all parts (struts, shocks, ball joint, linkage, and even tie rods) with good brands (either oem, moog, bilstein). Car handles great, but in rough roads you will still always feel everything. It using small tires also has to do with this. And since it's an older car, plastics aren't very stable now, so on imperfections you will hear and feel it wiggle or rattle.
