The Lexus SC430 is an extremely misunderstood commodity in the automotive community. I have owned over two hundred cars and owning two of these has been an utmost pleasure. Solid reliability and silky smooth quietness and virtually year round convertible use capability with lovely HVAC and heated seats. My first one took me to 165k miles before a newer example with only 50k miles drew my attention away. In the middle I owned a G37 Convertible which was very noisy and harsh compared to the lovely SC430. Don't think of this car as a sports car, this car is a luxury touring car. I'd honestly go anywhere in it. These cars have aged well and I receive compliments daily, fit and finish are next to none, Toyota maintenance costs are reasonable as I have the car serviced at the Toyota dealer. Float down the highway with the stereo on and let your stress fade away...

Put the top down and go

The car is easy to drive and everything that counts is easy to do or figure out quickly. The speed may be too much for the cornering so you learn quickly how to use the transmission to break. The run flat tires are terrible so get rid of them immediately. The automatic aspects of putting the top down are outstanding; in 20 seconds you are ready to go. The comfort and details are what you would expect from Lexus. A definite buy. UPDATE 2017: Still loving the car. A great benefit of small cars is they are easy to wash and wax, every month I update the finish with a detail wax spray. I always get compliments on this car. UPDATE 2018; 86K mileage, runs great and still fun to drive. Be prepared for mileage replacements to start, can be expensive.

This is my third SC430. My wife and I love this car. The stylish lines are timeless. The build quality is unmatched, the reliability is insane. I cannot believe that Lexus stopped building such an excellent vehicle. Their new converts can not compare.

This car is a refined sports car which may be too tame for some, but just right for others. It does not offer the excitement of a 911, Viper or Z06, but it does have creature comforts and fit and finish which is beyond reproach. Having owned many other roadsters, I can tell this is the one I'll keep for a while to come.

I found the best way to keep this car reliable is to keep a battery tender on it if it's not driven for more than 5 days. There is a parasitic drain that nobody seems to be able to fix. Other than that, I have not had any problems with this car. It's a blast to drive. I've driven the car a few thousand miles since my last review and have not had any problems. I did receive a recall notice to get the passenger side air bag replaced again. When I brought it in, the dealer found the power steering pump was leaking and it was in need of motor mounts. Since it needed a new timing belt, I have the water pump and everything done at the same time. Hopefully my car won't need anything else done for a few years. It's still a blast to drive this car!

I'm now 72 years old and have owned many fine nameplates in the past including BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and Audi. This car is an engineering masterpiece and a joy to own in its own right. I love top down cruising in the countryside with that smooth V-8 under my right foot. Turning on the Mark Levinson to my favorite tunes adds to the pleasure. It's a style that grows on you not unlike the new Mercedes SL, and for a lot less money. When it is replaced next year I doubt there will be another quite like it.

Unbelievable ride, grace and class. Run flat tires are silent even with the top down. I have never owned or driven anything like this. Looked at all other options but there is no equal for the money in elegance ride and overall feel. This car is made for running tropical moonlight nights with the top down. Top up it is not recognizable as a convertable. My only wish is gas mileage was a littee better, getting 19mpg @ 2000 on the odometer.

Purchased this car used with only 7000 miles. This car has exceeded my expectations in all respects. The engineering, fit and finish are beyond reproach. The only concern is the run flat tires. I got the P.B. Edition and love it. I doesn't compare to Porsche, but wasn't designed to do so. A great car for me at 66 yrs.

Run flat tires

I love driving this car but I have serious problems with tires separating from the rim. Within the last 4 months, I had to replace 3 tires at $400 each. The car does not even have 15K on it. I am an experienced driver but have never experienced such a problem. I believe that the Dunlap run flat tires are of an inferior quality and need improvement. Lexus dealer informed me that these tires are much thinner on the outer portion of the tire. Maybe that is the problem but we as consumers should not suffer from that! When one buys a $65,000 car, he or she should expect quality including the quality of the tires.

My best car EVER! RIP at 332,000 miles!!! I bought my SC430 in October 2001 and had it until December 13, 2016, due to a freak accident in my own backyard! I changed the Alternator ONCE in May 2016 and the Starter and Pully ONCE in August 2016! I changed the timing belt THREE times at every 100,000 miles. Other than the usual brake change and service/maintenance, there were no major issues. I pray to have another car such as this. I cannot live without the refinement of this vehicle. Lexus, please and please in the name of Jesus, BRING BACK THE SC430!

The Jewel, as Lexus described this car when it first came out and not only because it was a precious design but it was Lexus first convertible. Its lines were inspired by the upscale and high end yachts peered in the south of France known as The French Riviera where Lexus designers spent some time capturing and absorbing the beauty and elegance around that particular region and later molding it into what is known as The Lexus SC430. A solid build, an elegant and appealing convertible with ageless lines that will blend in with today's modern designs without shame of being left behind. Power by a very dependable V8 Engine with aluminum block and heads and the vvt-i technology delivering a responsive yet efficient grunt to get up and go paired with a smooth shifting six speed automatic transmission and to top it off a rear wheel drive traction. The interior is done with mastered craftsmanship using only real precious hard wood like Birdseye Maple or Walnut and the leather used on the seats is done by Coach the famous handbag manufacturers. All the gadgets are well placed and built with quality, while other manufactures gadgets last only a few years with Lexus you do not find that as a norm, they just last and always work. I will enjoy this car along with my wife now that we are in our late 40's and we hope to keep her for a long long time.

I have owned as many as 50 cars in my time. My lexus sc 430 convertible out wins them all. The leather is so soft and inviting that I can ride in the car all day. The sound system is tops, and the driving experience is like none other. The paint on the car is beautiful and I am trying to preserve this car because I do not think that there will be another like it. The body style commands attention, what can I say except that this car has earned the number one place from me!

The Best in Luxury Convertible cars

Don’t compare it with Porsche or MB, they are different animals. If you want to feel the engine, the road and handling of a real sport car go with a Porsche or SL500 or if you have the bucks go with a Ferrari but if you want to have a quasi Sporty convertible car with real luxury, the best reliability in the market, good power (60MPH in 5.8sec.), excellent comfort, outstanding stereo sound, premium amenities and you want to keep the best value in a car the SC430 is the car! Some people, disapprove the back seat, but to me it's a good thing, why? Because my insurance is not considering my SC like a Sport Car that normally is 50% more expensive expensive than a regular car because the 4 seats.

2006 SC Lexus 430, old school luxury

In the summer of 2020, I purchased a 2006 SC 430 with 27,750 well maintained miles. It's beautiful -- a great grand touring luxury ride. I have some mechanical aptitude & as I went through the car's interior & exterior, it it quite evident that this car is supremely engineered & extremely well put together. It's curb weight is just shy of two tons. It's whisper quiet & has plenty of pep. A/C is ice cold for hot summer days . . . and the top-down driving is exquisite. The burled walnut trim in the cabin is still gorgeous & the "Coach" (brand name, look it up) leather still looks new. The first & only owner cleaned & conditioned the leather seats . . . which most folks do not do. Reliability of SC 430 is without equal with a mass produced car (multiple awards from J.D. Powers, etc., over the life of the SC). Look for low mileage 2002 - 2010 SC 430. Properly maintain it and you'll derive years of luxury driving pleasure!😁

My recent frustration with an X5 and a 745 sent me on a mission to check out Lexus. Every experience I had had with 5 other Lexus cars was great so I went looking for an suv and an LS 430. Well when I saw this matador red, chrome wheeled beauty I was smitten. This is a great car that no one seems to pay any mind to. Beautiful styling, great comfort, world class fit and finish, quiet ride top up and top down and Lexus reliability make this car bulletproof. The only flaw is the seat belt access but why quibble. This car has it all and a great value in the market place. I have never enjoyed a car like this one. This is one sweet ride.

I love to take care of my cars so waxing is a regular calendar event. Part of the reward for maintaining a cars appearance is the self satisfaction and of course the parking lot adulation from passers by. At 13 years old with the original paint, this car still gets lots of adulation. The best part is the lines of the car not only bring attention they are a breeze to wash and wax.

I'm on my second Sc430 but this time I have the all elusive2006 pebble beach Mica tiger eye. This car is awesome in every way. A small car with a big car drive. This vehicle is totally obedient to ever command, from cruise to go get him!! There was only 500 of these car produced so everyone that sees it gawk in awe. Compliment after compliment. Even the new Lexus must look up to it's big brother. The stereo is just incredibly clear and loud if you like loud. Even though I don't have all the new gadgets, especially the blindspot monitor. I went out and purchased blindspot mirrors and that did the trick. This vehicle will never leave my ownership

This is my first Lexus, and driving the SC 430 goes well beyond my most extreme expectations. It has the silkiest shifting transmission I have ever experienced on a car, and the ride is like floating on air. Ultra-comfortable front seats, and plenty of power help to complement the other features of this car. Test one, and compare it to the other cars in this segment. Your only choice will be which color combination to get.

I love this car it's everything a convertible could be and exactly what I wanted. Large enough to be comfortable, sporty enough to be the talk of the parking lot. Interior detail is lavished with all that is lovely, outside is curvaceous and innovative. The top feature is intriguing to all who witness it, it's truly convertible in every sense of the word. Sporting 20" Chromes with run flat Toyos it drives like a dream, all on-lookers drool. Some convertibles are made for the regular drivers - they needn't be speed demons, corner huggin', fastest off the line to enjoy -for those of you who always wanted a convertible - this car is for you. It's BODACIOUS Fun Drivin' Fun To Own

This car has always been a dream car for me, never thought i would own one. We purchased two Lexuses at the same time, my SC 430 and my partners GS 450 Hybrid. We chose Lexus again because of design/build quality but also equally because of customer service. The fit and finish of both vehicles is outstanding, and the driving performance is awesome. I wanted a luxury convertible, but my requirement was HARD TOP. That leaves me with either the Lexus or the Mercedes. I chose Lexus.

I have had my 2005 SC430 for about 2 years now. I have really enjoyed this beast! It's finally about spring, and time to take her out of hibernation! Even though this car is closing in on 20 years old, it still surprises me how everything just works, and works well even after all these years! This car can totally change my mood if I'm having a rough day. Just drop the top and go!! It is not a corner carving machine, but also was never intended to be. It is a luxury cruiser that has a hint of sportiness to it. I plan on keeping this thing forever. It's my first Lexus and first convertible, I believe I made the right decision. I also enjoy the fact that you do not see these at every corner, so it feels like you are driving a special car.

I think the GPS is very intuitive and I've never used one. I activated the bluetooth without the manual and it definitely works when the car in moving. Hearing the other party is much better than my other car's bluetooth hook up. I even like the token back seat that holds my son until he'll move to the front. I love the headlights that go around the corner and the seats that fit like a glove. I'm not thrilled that it asks for premium fuel but that's not a big deal. I can't wait to drop the top this summer but love the fact that the PA winters are not harming a soft top while waiting for summer to come.

Cruising in my golden years

This is my second SC. It is the same as my first one—same color, same year. I loved my first one and I love this one. Top-downing is especially fun with my silver hair blowing and my Prada sunglasses hiding my 75-year plus old eyes. Both cars were purchased used from the same dealership. Between the two vehicles was a red Lexus IS 350C, which I never really liked. Too bad the SC has been discontinued 😢.

Lexus poured all of their engineering and design expertise into this little car in 2002. The design of the body panels for minimum wind resistance, the monster brakes, the smooth as silk 8-cylinder 4.3L engine, the luxurious interior and Levinson stereo, directional headlights, on-board navigation and, of course, the flawless convertible top. Body rigidity is very good. Reliability is excellent. It was not meant to be a BMW, Audi or Porsche. It is a grand touring coupe. Aside from ugly wheels on the first models it has aged well and is a beautiful, comfortable and fun car. Read all the reviews on line and you will see that almost nobody gives it less than 5 stars. There's a reason why. The reviews always have something negative to say about the back seats. Who cares? It’s a comfortable 2 seater. Use the space for storage. If you want 4 useable seats in a convertible buy another car.

I have loved my Lexus SC 430, it handles great, and is so fun to drive. I have had not one problem with it. I will buy another one soon, but, for now, it's amazing how new and beautiful it still is! Go for it, it's a great car!

The best-convertible hardtop

My Lexus SC430 is as modern now as back in 2007. The cost back then was $67k because it has all the features of new cars today. I wouldn’t have a soft top convertible due to the top fading and getting torn as well as roll over if an accident. My color of Tiger Eye Pearl Mica is beautiful, it sparkles in the sun and people tell me it’s great! The big V-8 is smooth and powerful, it’s a luxury cruiser. I got only 112k miles for a 2007 and keep in maintained on all ways. This will be my last car as I’m 70 but will love every day I have it!

Traded in my RX300 with this SC430 new in 2007. Three years & 34,000 miles later, I have not had any problems with this car. Black Sapphire exterior and Camel leather interior turns head anywhere I go. Had to change the tires at the 26000-mile mark. With depreciation and maintenance be ready to have a $1000 a month expense on this car. It's worth every dime!

SC 430

Visibilty of the nose and rear end drops off when parking. There is a lack of any bumpers on doors to avoid dings. The paint quality on the exterior is not as good as it should be. I am MOST disappointed in the exterior paint. After purchase I had some zinc oxide rub off on the interior arm rests. Lexus was completely at a loss as to what to do. I am sure other people buying a Lexus convertible will also use sunscreen and have a similar problem. It is very quiet and does not beat you up when the top is down.

Nice convertible with hard top so it is quieter than cloth convertibles. Luxury interior but electronics are outdated and were outdated in 2009. Great ride and lots of power. Really enjoyed the ownership.

We got this car mostly due to the hardtop convertible feature. The design and comfort are very nice while the performance and drive are lackluster. The car seemed to have been designed for an older driving population who want the look of a convertible in a Lincoln Town Car frame. The technology and nav system is very counter intuitive with the entire system disabled while driving, so you'd have to park the car before using your nav system or Bluetooth phone. Be careful of Lexus dealers lying to you about this feature. All in all, this car is somewhat disappointing but if you're looking to have a convertible look that drives like a sedan, then it's the right car for you.

We were blessed to buy a Lexus SC430 four weeks ago. I love driving it, and I especially love the looks and stares that I get from the special color of the Pebble Beach version! It's wonderful on the road; it handles beautifully! I can't wait until the temperatures are warm enough for me to put the top down!! Way to go Lexus!
