My 4th RX SUV
Lexus has done it again. This model(3rd generation) is the fastest yet. Has it's legendary smooth ride and I love the key less features. The bluetooth works well. So far my fuel mileage is not as good as my 2009, but I expect this to improve. There are other less expensive SUVs, but the feel of a Lexus can't be beat.
Happy as can be!
I recently traded my 2008 BMW X5 in for this 2011 Lexus RX350. The main reason I got rid of the BMW was because of the horrible and I mean horrible reliability, and everyone knows if you wanted a reliable luxury car you choose a Lexus. We've had the car now for a couple days and the transition was much easier than expected. The Lexus has many more features than the old BMW and it's MUCH more comfortable, the ride is smooth, the interior is well appointed and the cabin is very quiet when driving. Very happy that we chose to buy the RX350, you won't regret it.

11 years old and has had only one repair.
Only one repair ever needed since I bought this car new in 2011. Just regular maintenance, which I do follow per the Lexus handbook. Had the same story on my previous RX350. Unbeatable reliability. It's no BMW (I have owned a couple of those) but you feel firmly in control in any highway or city situation. I admit I am not a constant lane changer trying to beat everyone else on the freeway. Wife and I are older, and we appreciate the ease of getting in and out plus the advantage of sitting higher than much of the traffic. Very comfortable ride and satisfactory all around vehicle for normal driving. Plenty of power to zip past trucks when you need to. Son-in-law has one just like mine, someone pulled onto the highway right in front of him with traffic at 60mph. He swerved to avoid the idiot, got bounced back and forth between an oncoming pickup and another one behind him, rolled 4 times, all 11 airbags deployed and he crawled out of the sunroof with just a sore neck. His car was squashed front and back but the interior remained intact. Automatic fuel cutoff and doorlocks. That's pretty good safety.

Smart key not very smart
I just purchased the 2011 RX350 and I love it even after driving Mercedes sedans for the last 8 years the transition was easy. It's fun to drive, I like the space and it still has the feel of a luxury vehicle. The problem, my smart key is not very smart. You should be able to lock and unlock doors and start the car with just a touch or the hand or push of your finger. NOT!! My new RX350 has now been at the dealer for the same amount of time that it was physically in my possession. They keep saying, "the corporate office is working on a solution".
good daily commuter
The Lexus RX is a good daily commuter. Its V6 engine can easily get you around town, and its spacious seats keep you comfortable on the way. It has a lower MSRP than many rivals, making it relatively affordable for an upscale vehicle.

I hope the new ones ride better.
I got my RX in Feb this year with 9,000 miles on it. Now I think I know why the original owner traded it. The suspension is way too stiff, and noisy. You feel every bump and the rear suspension lets you know with loud booms. This thing rides like a Mercedes ML. That's not good. Also, with all the bouncing around, the back seat emits all kinds of noise. Keeping it folded down seems to help. I don't want a car so soft it wallows and has tons of body roll, but this is just ridiculous. Other than that, I'm ok with the rest of the car. The leather and other materials feel good. It's fairly quiet. I'm getting 23mpg on premium.
LACK OF CUBBIES
Where do you put your stuff in this car? No place for pens, note pads, etc. for the driver. The storage in the center console is very difficult to access. And the cell phone charger set-up!!! That has GOT to be improved.
Great SUV
Highly reliable and does not require much unscheduled maintenance. Great value for money.

Feeling of Disappointment.
Having some experience with Toyota (used to work for the company), I'm pretty familiar with their technology and at the same time must say that I'm disapointed. Me and my wife bouhgt the car fully loaded with the tow package and after 1300 miles the transmission went out, wow that was a shock to me. Please don't get me wrong, I still think it is a great car but for over $40K I expect a lot more. Of course it doesn't happen every day with Lexus products but when it does happen to you I'm sure all of us would have doubts. The drive is OK, but if you are for more sporty style of driving go with the German car, mainly Audi Q5 which I drove and it blew me away, it's handling and resposivness.
Lives up to the Lexus name!
This SUV is everything you expect in a Lexus: comfortable, quiet and reliable. A couple of the features I really like are the steering headlights and the ventilated seats. The only real disappointment is the navigation system which only allows voice access when driving, which really limits what you can do with it. For example, you can't get it to look up a POI in a given city, it will only tell you POI's near you.

Love it.
I just picked Lexus RX 350 touring package 2 weeks ago and I am loving it. Fun to drive, the navigation, the back up camera and the interior is awesome.
Very pleased
Used as family vehicle and often for hauling merchandise from stores and bikes and other recreational equipment. Pulls a small 2000 lb utility trailer as if it isn't there. Have spent 0 on repairs in 98,000 miles, only regular maintenance(synthetic oil) and one set of tires. First were replaced after 70,000 miles. Nothing not to like. We will trade for a Toyota or Honda. Unfortunately will not buy a 2017 Lexus because we think it's ugly and ungainly looking. Drove to 138,000 miles and sold. Still no problems at all. Traded in for a Toyota Highlander, larger and uses regular gas. Sold and bought Toyota

Follow Up Of November Purchase of RX350
Since my initial review, the following has happened to my RX350. Passenger side window did not work and had to have the entire motor and electrical replaced. My bumper has popped off the body of the car not once, but twice. I have to have a new bumper ordered, painted and installed on a car with less than 10,000 miles. The caps on the windshield wipers have had to be replaced. I can't believe Lexus put its badge on this dog. Unfortunately I own this vehicle.
Amazing automobile
The RX 350 is a very well thought out car and quality is evident throughout. The interior is sophisticated without "trying too hard". We got the AWD with navigation, comfort, premium, and tow prep package. The seat ventilation is wonderful in the summer time. I'm also in love with the proximity key and the personalization settings of the vehicle. The navigation takes some getting used to, but the hard drive-based navigation is a lot snappier than portable units and DVD-based Nav I've used on other vehicles. Passenger and driver comfort are amazing. There's plenty of room for 5 people, though I miss the 3rd row seating of my Honda Pilot.
Solid Reliability Lexus
The RX350 is an Excellent Car/Truck. For the most part the ride is compliant.. Over some bumps, it can be non compliant. Rides like a truck.. When the road is smooth, the ride is great !! Acceleration is brisk but not mind blowing... Stopping is good.. Visibility is great ! Plenty of room.. Reliable , more reliable than any Mercedes or BMW with out question. Former Mercedes owner here.. Many of them actually.. The appointments are not as good as Mercedes, and there is not as much Substance as Mercedes.. But... All that is outweighed by Lexus reliability.. This is our 2nd Lexus, and nothing ever goes wrong with any of our Lexus cars.. Except.. Every 4-5 years, you have to replace the battery.. If a new Mercedes were as reliable as a Ford I would consider buying another. For the Price of a Mercedes you would think they would be the most reliable car on the Planet !! More reliable than a Toyota Lexus... I do not understand how a car that costs so much can be so unreliable as a New Mercedes !!

Dave's Luxury SUV
This car rides better than Mercedes, BMW, and Audi SUVs. It has low noise level, and 350 hp engine gives great pick up when entering highways. Best SUV I have ever driven.

Previous RX Owners Might Be Dissapointed
I traded in my 2002 RX with over 130,000 and I0,000 miles and I miss it. Previous RX owners might want to spend a weekend with this car before making a decision. My main complaint is the poorly designed interior. When you can't fit your owners manual in the glove compartment - poor design. When you have to take your eyes off the road to turn on the seat heater - poor design. The driver has to reach behind to get something out of the storage compartment. The list goes on. Feel the weight of the glove compartment door or the weight of the carpet - they don't come close to previous models. This is my third Lexus in ten years, I feel let down by a friend. They can do better than this.
ARCHAIC NAV SYSTEM
First of all, why hasn't Edmunds talked about the archaic nav/radio system in any of their reviews???? I come from the world of Ford/Sirius/SYNC and I was shocked when I realized how old-fashioned the Lexus system is. Yes, I know, I should have kept it for a weekend to discover what a terrible system it is - but I listened to friends who were already Lexus owners, and I read Edmunds reviews and NO ONE told me!!! Have these people never driver another brand of car? You have to jump to two screens to see the title of a song, and then jump BACK to get to the next channel. No color, no logos, just plain old letters that are truncated - you don't even see the whole song title.
Slightly Disappointed but Good Overall
I previously owned a 2004 RX330 and I wish I'd have kept it. The older Lexus models felt to have some personality, these new ones dont, they're like appliances. The RX is a nice place to be however, it's one of the most comfortable riding cars I've ever been in. But that's not enough to make up for its shortfalls.
Still runs like at champ @ 155k
Bought at 55k miles in 2015. Have 6.5 yrs and no issues other than ac a couple years ago. Rear shocks @ 145k. Normal wear and tear/maintenance. Gas mileage kinda sucks @ 19 mpg avg but still drives great. I take care of it. Oem everything. Also take to Toyota dealer. Save a little money compared to Lexus.

Love it
Purchased in 2013/this app won't let me enter the year. This is my first Lexus, and I've been really pleased with the vehicle and dealer. My only complaint is the stone chip problem -- the paint has only to look at a stone, and it chips. Touch ups -- even those done by my body shop -- don't seem to stick.

Everything is great except the gas mileage
As it has been mentioned in other reviews that car is great. I love the feeling of a plush ride. One biggest complaint is that dealer didn't offer to sell the Hybrid version of this car as i am really not happy with the gas mileage. In year 2011, getting 18 mpg when the gasoline is costing close to $4 per gallon. It is really taking the fun out of driving this gas guzzler. I really suggest Lexus should stop selling this SUV and only sell the hybrid version of this car. On a hindsight i am guilt of not purchasing the hybrid. Thanks.
Should buy MDX F/L , biger, better design in side,
Like all cars there is a good thinks and not good ones. in this model i can say Lexus could do more inside of the car, design is so cheap with dashboard , at least Lexus should remove that ugly grey color of metal look. under arm glove department is so uncofy to reach since some [violative content deleted] designer decided to open it only half way, u have to open it with right hand and get what u want with left. plus space under ur right foot is for what? cant freaking reach it anyway.
A super vehicle
I came out of a classic 2006 Honda Pilot, so I gave up some cargo room, but I can still get my full size bicycle in the back intact with rear seats collapsed just fine. I was able to put 2 bikes in my Pilot inside without stacking them. I like the classy ride and luxury features of the Lexus and we bought it from private party with records, etc and felt good about it, It is a great road car, but lacks HUD and it is not red my favorite color. My wife and I bought 2, a 2010 and a 2011 Rx350 in 2017 and that says a lot.
new vs. old
the 2010 rx is not as driver friendly as the older models. I should have spent a few dollars on my "99 with 150k miles and kept it
Never, ever again!!
I had a 2000 Lexus RX 300 which I bought when it had 10K on it, kept it for 14 years, absolutely loved it, but was afraid mechanically it was becoming weaker, so I decided my very last car would be one just like it except newer...… a 2011 Lexus RX 350. WRONG!!!! How I detest this car! I should have not assumed it would be just like the 2000 and paid more attention to the details when I took the quick drive around the block with the car salesman yakking in my ear! The console is totally unusable for storage; since I am short, I have to stop the car, get out, lay down in the floor to get anything out of the storage or to get to charger jack. The seat 90% blocks access to storage. (of course, there is another outlet UNDER a tray in the console, which means you have to take everything in the nick/nack area out BEFORE you can take the tray out to get to the jack.) After owning this car for 18 months, I still am slayed every time I have to do either of these tasks. The 2000 had a nice little place to put your purse in front of the console, plug in the phone charger and you could reach it all without even taking your eyes off the road. What were they thinking????? Yes, and the "fisheye" backup camera is totally worthless if you try to see behind. The huge side mirrors which match up to the post between windshield and side windows make the visibility terrible. Have almost hit two pedestrians because they were behind the side mirror/post. I have taken all the head rests off except for drivers, as it is impossible to see out the rear or back side with them on. Fisheye is no help. Oh, and the cargo space, because of the steep slant in the back area means you have about a third less cargo space than the 2000 Lexus had. Someone's review said how cheap the carpet and interior is, and I totally agree with that. Who would ever put a BLACK dash on a tan car to get hotter and hotter and collect dust and more dust? There is absolutely no way you can see the lever which contains the mode of the lights. There is no light and it is always BEHIND the spoke of the steering wheel. You have to peep around the outside to see if you are in Auto mode or have no lights. The car has always been very noisy idling and after a 5 hour trip non stop at top speed limits, pulled into my garage and hear loud noise like valves knocking. I always change oil on time and oil is full and use synthetic oil and premium gasoline. Taking it to the doctor. have no diagnosis, but bet it ain't cheap! This car is going into someone else's garage. I will do better next time! Yes, the seats are extremely comfortable. I hate this car as much as I loved the 2000.....Like someone else, should have kept it and spent the money on fixing whatever happened to it. 20/20 hindsight! UPDATE at 67K: I took the car to the Toyota Dealership at 64K (no Lexus dealership closer than 90 miles) to have the valve knocking noise checked out... they said it was not loud enough to cause it to trigger a problem light, so they weren't sure... I asked them to listen to video with audio I had taken of loud strange engine noise, and they agreed it sounded like a problem on the video, but since the trouble light did not pick it up, they could not make the diagnosis. I am now taking it to Lexus dealer in next few days which is 90 miles away. UPDATE 11/10/20. Have now owned the car for three years and it has 74K on it. I took it to the second dealership who totally blew me off. Said all Lexus sound loud like that when idling. Charged me something over $100 to change the oil! What a ripoff!!! the extended warranty I bought when I bought the car three years ago just ran out, so I am on my own now. Motor is still terribly terribly noisy, sounds like valves clacking. Will just have to drive it until it falls apart; have found no way to change the visibility. I also thought when I took off the cheap tires that came on it from dealership, it would ride smooth as silk like the 2000 Lexus Rx did when I had it with Michelins on it. Put four new Michelins on this 2011; rides fine as long as road is smooth, but if you hit somewhat of a bump, hang on to your teeth; it will jar your head off! Rides like a truck on bumpy road. Cheap cheap cheap carpet. That is my story! Do not buy a Lexus RX 350 in my opinion; they have deteriorated terribly with every new model. Save your money. UPDATE 11/21 AT 80k. Still driving 2011 noisy, valve clacking motor Lexus RX350; have almost hit pedestrians who are walking on right side of car in parking lots, due to inability to see around the huge rearview mirrors which are side-by-side to the thick windshield post, and you have to peep and peep and look and look to make sure you are not pulling out into traffic from the right. Seats are still very comfortable and road trips leave nothing to be desired comfort-wise. I put on a set of Micheliin tires (the model below Defender) which was a mistake. Drove 16K miles in two years and they had virtually no tread left, even with diligent every 7K rotation and constant vigilance on tire pressure, so got a monetary adjustment from Michelin, and put on new set of Defenders which make the ride much, much better. Still hate the noisey motor but am not a car trader, so I guess this RX 350 and I will be together until the end, as it was intended to be my last car.
