It is now 2010, I've had this car for 11 years and have found it to be a wonderful car for a 17 year old car. I get compliments that the body style doesn't show that it's that old. The ride is still incredible with good tires. The comfort is superb. Reliability is excellent. In the years I have had it, there are a couple of known issues. One, is the dash electronics start turning off on cold days. This is caused by some degraded components (half dozen capacitors) in the dash PCB which can be replaced by folks who do this on ebay, or you can do it yourself(as I did). Took 4 hours total. Overall, this car has been very reliable at 200K miles for me. The engine/tranny is very strong.

This baby still gets looks! I Leased it brand new and purchased her outright after the lease was up. Fabulous vehicle. A little tight inside but she's still a rocket when need-be with just 35k on her. The leather is starting to dry out and the seams are splitting in spots but she's a beauty. I only let the folks at Lexus service her and am asked every time if I'd like to sell her.."no shot"!. I've been through dozens of new vehicles over the years but this one still remains in my driveway like a showpiece in a museum. Am I in love with this car?....You can bet your Mercedes..Just her and I forever!

After renting 20 new cars in 2005 I have to say the 1993 LS 400 beats them all. The quality, durability, feel and beauty of this luxury car will change one forever. Each day I drive and feel great in this wonderful car. If you take the time and ask people how do you like your car you may hear it's good, it's fast or I like it. Ask a LS 400/430 owner and you will hear, "I love it!" Daily I get compliments on this 13 year old car. The fact is one can add wheels and few other extras and this car is a dream for any 20 year old. Drive it stock at it's a dream for any corporate executive. I LOVE MY LEXUS!

I bought this car with 180,000 miles and I can say that it really doesn't know it has this many miles on it! I've owned cars that after hitting 70- 80 mph, the steering wheel would start to vibrate. Not this Lexus. I've hit 90 and it runs so smoothly! WoW! I've heard rumors of the engine lasting up to 400-500K. I may, just may test this out! I'm already half- way there! expected problems include A/C display burned out, dash lights stay dark when cold, then comes back on when car warms up.(you can fix this yourself!) driver power window switch can wind down rear window, but not back up! Use rear switch to wind back up. Overall, for it's age, (16 years) I'm VERY impressed!

Purchased this Lexus in September 2004, initially concerned about higher mileage, but after 3 1/2 years of superb performance and driving comfort, I plan to drive this exceptional vehicle until the wheels come off of one of us. Never had a better vehicle in my life, no major repairs, no cash outlay except for the Premium gas. Well worth it for what I've received in return, what a wonderful investment and dependable to the nth degree.

This car is superb 1993 LS 400. It is now (age) sweet 16 and still is better than most new cars out there. I can't get rid of it because she performs flawlessly on a daily basis. I had the timing belt and water pump replaced.. that's it.

Bought this LS in Oct '97 with 38K miles on it. Has 161K in 2010. Best car I've ever owned! At 116K - Traction Control needed replacement. At 160K -- problems with power steering and rear suspension. BUT -- that was it for 13 great years! Smooth, quiet, got 27 MPG on 2500 mile Midwest road trip!

Just bought Mine and purrs like a kitten with the roar of a lion when needed. Smooth comfortable power, seats a little uncomfortable. electronic issues but did research found great affordable repairs or instructions. Dash lights don't come on when cold, can mail instrument cluster to a gentleman on EBAY $95, dealership wanted $1200, reverse light out sensor stayed on apply brake and reverse light lighted up, 40 cent repair wires broke near left trunk hinge (white and red from opening closing trunk) 16 years old and love it!

We bought this car used in '96 after shopping around. Our first priority was comfortable ride, which the LS400 won hands down. After 9 years it's still a dream. For many cars, 9 years this would be the end of the lifespan but this Lexus is still in the prime of life. Yes, a few things are "sagging"--I've had brake problems and power steering fluid issues but that's it & it keeps on purring down the road. I'm always loading it up with plants and construction materials & thinking "Is this the way to treat a luxury car?" But let's be honest: what other car would be this smooth, this quiet, for this money? I have a feeling it's going to outlast me.

As someone in their early 20's my only complaint is that I would prefer a little bit of a stiffer ride for cornering. But then again, I'm sure when Lexus made this car their target audience wasn't 20-something year olds. That being said, this is the best car I've ever owned and I'm so satisfied that I plan to keep it for as long as possible. I own a mercedes that is 1 year newer and has less miles and it doesn't even compare to the comfort, quality, and dependability of my Lexus. I bought the car from the second owner, both owners were elderly and kept fantastic care of the car, and I plan to do the same.

Best Car I've Ever Owned

I purchased my LS 400 Anniversary Edition Oct 2013 with only 47k from a 70 year old lady who bought it brand new. The car was still in showroom new condition with every option available and shows hardly any wear. This car drives like a dream and turns more heads than my 2013 Nissan 370Z. You guessed it, the Z is spending a lot of time in the garage. The only problem is the instrument cluster not lighting up until the car warms up so I know the car has a more miles on it than the odometer shows but I'm not worried because I will never, ever, ever, ever sell this gem.. I have contacted the guy on EBAY that repairs them and will be getting it to him soon. What the heck...I paid $6500 for it.

Bought a 93 LS 400 used with 40,000 miles. It now has 318,000 miles. Unfortunately, last week I hit a deer, so technically the car is totaled, even though it is very driveable. No work other than scheduled maint on drive train! Still has original complete exhaust system - no new tailpipe, muffler, etc. Had I not hit a deer, I expected to clear 400,000 in a few years! Fantastic car!!

My LS400 now has 73k miles, and feels like new. I purchased it 3 years ago with 39K, and have enjoyed the "Ride". The build quality is second to none. Repairs can be expensive, if they are needed, as Lexus parts are not cheap. My only repair has been the replacement of one "air" suspension strut. I plan to keep this one for a long time...

Before getting my car, I remember seeing the TV commercials where they stacked champagne glasses on the hood & rev up the engine to demonstrate the smoothness & quietness of the car. I recall thinking to myself "How can that be possible?". Well... I found out very quickly. Not only the smoothest car I've ever driven, but the most reliable, trouble-free car I've ever owned. Even though it's 10 yrs old, I will not replace it until I can do so with a newer 400 or 430 model!

This is the best car I have ever owned. The build quality and reliability of the LS400 are unmatched. It does not have the best acceleration in it's class due to the weight of the vehicle, but it's a luxury car. My friends always comment on how nice the car is and the price I bought it for. I want to run the car 'till it dies... which will be a long time.

I bought my LS400 in april of 2004. I got a great deal on it because they didn't want to fix a/c display that went out, which is pretty coslty and common failure on these cars that occurs after years. I heard from my friend technician that there are a few Ls400s still running strong around 500k miles particularly in California! And as for the maintenance those Ls400s can last on the original timing belt at 200k miles and still run as if it was brand new. Nevertheless above, I don't encourage those Ls400s owners to neglect their machines and try it.

Drives like a Rolls Royce, maintains like a Toyota

My 1994 LS400 has just 156k on the ODO yet it drives like its brand new. The ride comfort beats a 95’ Mercedes E320, 06’ Acura RDX, 07’ Honda Accord, and is comparable if not smoother than a fully loaded 2012 Range Rover. Smooth roads feel like your hovering, rough roads feel smooth, and broken roads have a slight few bumps to them...the ride comfort on this vehicle is one of the best on the market. I’ve read that ppl have preferred this over a 2000 Mercedes Benz and countless Cadillacs. The shift points are hard if not impossible to notice, the steering is buttery smooth, and the acceleration is instant for a heavy 90s sedan. If you want to drive a Rolls Royce but won’t ever have a chance like most ppl...get this car, it is the closest thing you’ll get to it for less than 5-10k, hands down.

To think I almost sold it. The dealership told me the engine was just getting broken in at 150k miles. I went to test drive other new vehicles and returned disappointed and confirmed. I wasn't selling. It drives phenomenally, comfortably, always the same. You just feel good in it. New cars barely offer the amenities that I have in this car (new Lexus aside).

I bought this back in 96 just off lease and I couldn't be happier. The quality of this car is amazing. At 98,000 miles it runs flawlessly. I have never put a penny into it due to breakdown, however the maintenance is not cheap. Small problems include a trunk lock that no longer works, and an occasional need to open the gas tank with the hidden cable. The dashboard lights sometimes require the car to warm up before illuminating. The car car is solid a a rock, extremely reliable and I'd buy another but..why? It seems like it will last forever.

This car is a miracle. It's 1994 and it still has some options better then 2007 cars. I like it. No noise, no vibrations even at 6000 rpm. The interior is high quality. I have never seen a car last this way. The Lexus has a powerful engine, 250hp, rear wheel drive, some of them are equipped with traction control, adaptive air suspension, excellent sound system.

The key to owning a 14 year old car is being able to do much of the maintenance without going to a dealer. When I got this car with 97,000 miles, it was obvious that the previous owner, a one owner, gave up replacing burned out lights and such. They had three brake jobs in 45,000 miles-the dealer took them for a scam by never replacing the rotor-just grinding them down to nothing. I love this car. My only major repair was the timing belt/water pump for $1,300. I know that the next problem will be the power steering pump/alternator disaster. When you own a car like this, you need to go to a Lexus forum-it will save you a bundle. The smoothest riding car I have ever owned. Period.

PURCHASED A DEALER CERTIFIED CAR WITH ABOUT 12K & 2 YEARS OLD. HAD EVERY FACTORY OPTION. IT HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL PURCHASE. OTHER THAN HAVING TO REPLACE THE TIMING BELT A LITTLE EARLY (50K mi) DUE TO A LEAKING WATER PUMP, THE CAR HAS PERFORMED PERFECTLLY. IT IS SENSITIVE TO BRAND OF TIRES, i.e. ROAD NOISE. WITH THE RIGHT TIRES, IT IS STILL VIRTUALLY SILENT WHEN ON THE ROAD.

The LS400 offers tremendous value. I purchased mine used in 1998 for the same price as a new base Camry LE. The quality is bulletproof and it drives the same today as it did when I bought it. If you are value-conscious, then this is a great car. The luxury aspects were not extremely important when I purchased, however, I have enjoyed the vehicle's comfort, ergonomics and Nakamichi stereo.

What a wonderful car this has been to us! We bought it used at 72,000 miles and just sold it to make room for another baby at 120,000. The only major repair that we've done was replace the power steering pump at 90,000 miles. All other work was simply maintenance. They treat you with respect at the Lexus dealer no matter where we've had it serviced and that alone makes the car worth owning. Are you considering buying a used LS400? Don't hesitate, you won't regret it.

When i first bought it from the dealer i took it for test drive and i wanted to check how strong the engine is, so i stomped on all the gas and the delaer besides me leaped back wards and i was thrown back as well. The car has 90k on it now. And it drives like a new. How does Lekus do it i don't know, but they should keep it up i never changed anything. All i do is keep maintence and keep checking engine, trans, and suspension.

Had approx. 4 mos. Bought w/127k & now have 130k. Fixed the power steering leak, changed front brakes & had 120k tune-up. Had to de-hoopty-ize it: removed window tint, chrome 17" wheels, phone antenna & bracket, faded gold emblems, cracked gear shift wood panel, fixed driver's side dr lock switch, patched leather seat. Car looks & runs great, no rattles or squeaks. Excluding the power steering issue & the broken dr lock switch, rest was cosmetic chgs for my taste. Those 2 were design flaws that are expected in 90-94 LS400s. Best car I've ever had. 9 yr old car & drives much better than friend's new Intrigue. Fun to drive!

I really like the car when it is running.I have had many problems with this car's electrical system, such as corrosion, failed computer chips, lights constantly burning out, power failures (partial and complete), LED displays going out on the clock and climate control, etc.... I have also had to replace brakes at a much higher rate, my front seat has broken. I was told after one electrical failure by the dealer " It's not our fault! you bought a luxury car with so many options you should expect failures, it overloads the system." I have also maintained my car above Lexus specs. Am I the only one to ever have problems with the car and it's dealers?
