Get used to driving a loaner

We've owned Land Rover products for nearly 20 years, and 5 years ago we left for Toyota (we purchased a 4runner and a Lexus SUV) because the frustrations of owning a Land Rover were interrupting our life (the service manager and Land Rover and I used to joke, that I should park the cars at the dealership, because they spent more time in the shop than in my garage). After, NEVER having any issues with Toyota or Lexus for 4-years, we made the decision to go back to Land Rover and give the company the benefit of the doubt and purchased a 2018 Discovery (new from dealer) and 2018 Range Rover Sport (new from dealer) and both in cash. So, after racking up 7,000 miles and 5 months, the Discovery has been in the shop 18 days, major brake issues (sticking), software issues, and AEB issues. The Range Rover Sport is having the brake issues and software issues and has enjoyed about 8 days in the shop. We have serious mixed emotions, the Land Rover products are awesome in the snow, off-road and as daily haulers. But, once again I am sitting on two vehicles that have lost a significant amount of their value and I'm back and forth to the service facility. The Dealership has been super responsive and helpful while the work on a DFT (Dealer Facilitated Trade) for the Discovery (but no promises). Moral of our story will be to drive these for another 3 years, and trade them in for Ford, Toyota (Lexus) or Jeep. The moral of the story for you is simple, don't buy a Land Rover product, this is our recommendation after driving them on/off for 20-years.

Don't ever buy a Land Rover

Carl Morgan, 12/19/2018

We bought a brand new 2018 car from Land Rover. Within 30 days it was in the shop for repair. Over the next 90 days it was sent back for repair 5 more times. They told us it was a factory defect, and then over the next 3 months we were given a old, used, late model Land Rover while they came up with some "options" for us. All while we continued to make monthly payments on a $92,000 car. They finally got back to us and informed us that we could accept a lesser vehicle then we had purchased. Upon hearing this news, we simply asked to get out of the deal. They then said we would have to pay nearly $5,000 to get out of the deal. This seems insane to me so I contacted the corporate office and they told us "that's their policy". I am now paying $5000 to get out of this nightmare. From top to bottom Land Rover is a disgusting corporation, with terrible vehicles, and even worse customer service. I simply plead with anyone considering a Land Rover, that they hear my warning. DON'T BUY A LAND ROVER! Nn

Love my Disco!

I need to say I love the my Discovery HSE! The exterior is so different then what you see everyday on the road and that's a good thing. The interior is great, with soft touch materials and great feel/quality of the fabric and seats. The tech is great and I'm not sure why people complain about the load times of the display screen or ease of use as I find it to be the opposite. The handling is awesome and it feels like such a solid vehicle with plenty of power to get it moving with great visibility. It's hard to list all of my favorite features but one of them is the Disco lowers after shutting off for ease of departure and access which my wife appreciates. I highly recommended doing a test drive to see for yourself!

Problem after problem. After at least 15 visits to the dealer my interior computer is still not working correctly. If it dose its slow, unresponsive and just down right antiquated. I feel like Im driving an outdated Iphone that is no longer supported. After 2 years Im trying to trade it in and the resale value is very low. Your better off spending your money on another option.

Nice styling and features, terrible build quality

EColorado3, 10/31/2021

Pros: Nice, clean modern upscale interior. Light grey leather seats, dash, console, and headliner are beautiful and clean surprisingly very easily. Lots of safety features. Drives well in the snow and bad weather. Feels like a tank. Good space and nice size third row. Abundant and clever storage spaces throughout. Great sounding stereo, when you can get it to work. Heated windshield is great. Auto high beam headlights are fantastic. Cons: The infotainment system is a constant source of frustration. Sometimes it hooks up to my phone, sometimes it won’t recognize my phone is there at all during the entire drive no matter how many ways I try to get it to find it. Sometimes it recognizes my phone for phone calls through the car, but will not recognize it to play music through the vehicle. Sometimes Apple Car Play works, sometimes it doesn’t. We have had the 2019 Land Rover Discovery HSE for almost 2 years. We’ve had to take it in for service at least 7 times for various issues. Right after I bought it I was driving through a heavy Colorado snow storm with my mom and daughter in the vehicle. My mom noticed water dripping on her. We couldn’t determine where it came from and I took it in to the dealer and they checked it and said there was nothing wrong. Then when I took it through a car wash for the first time water came pouring in around the edge of the windshield, which the dealer later admitted wasn’t sealed properly. They fixed that. Then there was a consistent extremely loud air noise coming from the drivers window. That was also checked and I was again told nothing was wrong. I took it in two more times and they finally replaced the entire stripping around the door which mostly addressed the issue. Then the storage compartment on the center console in the second row broke and wouldn’t open. They replaced that. Then the hidden storage compartment in the driver’s center console would never really open properly. After 2 service appointments they fixed that. The cover to the third row sunroof rattled. We took it back in and they fixed that. One of the side panel covers in the cargo area in the back was missing a clip so it protruded into the cargo area. It took us taking it in 3 times for various issues for them to order the part and fix that. Immediately after we bought the vehicle I noticed that it felt like I had to wrestle with the wheel, which was extremely heavy, to keep the vehicle centered in the lane. I asked the Land Rover dealer to check the alignment and steering and they said there was nothing wrong with it. I asked them to check it again on multiple occasions as we had the vehicle in for other fixes and for regular service. I was always told nothing was wrong. Then after having the vehicle for only around a year I was told the tires needed to be replaced because they had worn unevenly because the vehicle was out of alignment. What a frustrating experience after not being listened to and then having to pay $1300 out of my pocket to replace the tires and have the vehicle aligned properly (which I did not do at the dealership). Second row center headrest when up makes visibility through the rear window very bad and it’s hard for kids to fold down (you kind of have to put your body weight into pushing the button to fold it down) - Land Rover should have a control for the driver to lower that headrest because you never remember it’s up until you start driving. Ultimately this vehicle is a good idea in concept but the quality of the build and parts are very low and unreliable. For a $70k vehicle you expect more. I will never buy another Land Rover again and will soon be trading it in for a BMW X5.

Great mileage. Great third row seating. Been in the shop over 60 days since I owned it (22 months). First windshield leaked. . . took about a month to get a replacement that wasn't broken. Now in the shop for the FOURTH time for "Engine Oil Critically Low" warning on dash. Oil has never been low when checked. Sensors have been replaced to no avail. Dealership has been terrific, provided great loaners and service, but I am tired of dealing with this error. Also entertainment and navigation are slow and not intuitive to use. Rear backup camera great. 360 degree view is not 100% accurate, and cannot be displayed simultaneously with rear view.

We decided to throw caution to the wind regarding the potential reliability issues with the Disco and dive in with a great deal on a 2018 leftover lease. Love the Diesel!! Excellent drivetrain, shared with the big dog Range Rover. Smooth, powerful and quiet. Overall 25 MPG in mixed driving of this 5000lb tank, I can’t imagine needing anything more... Beautiful interior, obviously lots of space, excellent LED headlights. Super comfortable seats and commanding seating position. 0 issues at this point....nit picking includes the less than bright interior lights, and having to use an exterior EZ pass due to the heated windshield. I even like the in control app, which in our experience, does what it’s supposed to do!

JUL2022 Update: Back to loving my 2018 LR Discovery. LR USA acknowledged and corrected all concerns Spring 2020. Has most recently issued a windshield recall to correct systemic windshield/sealant issues. SUV remains a comfortable, versatile and mechanically reliable ride. JAN2020 Update: Change of heart - predominantly regarding Land Rover failure to honor vehicle warranty in a reasonable timeframe. My 2018 Discovery HSE LUX experienced a failed front windshield seal (per LR maintenance tech) in early DEC 2019 that allowed significant rain water intrusion into the cabin - soaking the headliner, filling the center console with water, and soaking the passenger side floor board from behind the glove compartment (to be clear - all windows were closed). Upon start up - the HUDS malfunctioned due to electrical system shorting from the water intrusion behind the dashboard (per the LR maintenance tech). My LR dealer acknowledged this problem as not unique to my vehicle - and fixed the windshield seal. However - I (and my LR dealer) have been fighting LR UK for six weeks now trying to get them to release replacement HUDS components for my SUV's repair. In meantime - I found my passenger rear seat heating to be non operative. Fighting similar parts battle with LR to repair seat heat. For the record - the Voice Navigation system has never worked and is the absolute worst of any vehicle I have ever owned. Repeated trips to dealer have yet to correct this Vox Navigation software deficiency, nor have they brought me any closer to correcting the other stated warranty issues. I have recently submitted a Lemon complaint to LR USA Customer Relations as a result. Awaiting their review and feedback. NOV2018 Original: Wife and I went on a Land Rover off road excursion at the Biltmore Estate the winter prior to making the purchase. Enjoyable and informative morning driving through the snow covered trails! Worth the time if you're new to the LR Brand. When we were ready to move into a new SUV - the LR dealer actually allowed us to test drive our new Discovery over a long weekend before making the decision to buy. Beautiful design and color combo right off of the show room floor - an Eye Catcher. Fell in love! Has been a great road trip and weekend getaway SUV - Fun to drive - Comfortable and roomy. Very cool HUD - Handles well - Quiet on the road. Plenty of power - Surprisingly smooth transmission. Functional - Has accommodated 7 adults, Carried my bikes, and towed my 6500 lb boat all with equal ease. Take time to learn the infotainment system - you won't be disappointed. Overall very pleased with our purchase!

Great looking vehicle and comfortable. What I dislike is that the heat doesn't ever get warm enough that it needs to be turned down. After owning it for 2 weeks it had been to the dealer twice. Once because the battery died because it needed a computer upgrade and I thought the heat was broken. The second time was for the heat again. I was reassured both times there was nothing wrong with the heat. Sad to say with chilly New England weather I truly want to be hot in my vehicle and want to have to turn the heat down instead of riding with it on high/max and freezing.

Purchased a certified pre-owned '19 Discovery and have been pretty happy with it. It tows like a dream thanks to the air suspension; easily conquers off-road obstacles as expected; has great reliability; and the same interior (save softer leather) as the Range Rover. Great value for the money and a 7 year, 100,000 CPO warranty. Tip: get the HUD, it's worth it!

This car is cute, and that's about all I can say good about it. It has terrible quality, from the top of the racks on the hood (which have fallen off on me 3 times on the freeway), the interior is cheap, the material on the seats is the worst. It is just overall a terrible car and I am so sorry I bought it.

JLR made a huge leap forward with the infotainment system in this car. On par with the best. The space in this vehicle is incredible. Combined with the strong engine, it feels very capable. Ride is good, fuel economy is good. Excellent cruising range. I have about 7000 miles under my belt. Build quality is below average to only fair, I am experiencing electrical issues and have 3 outstanding recalls that need to be resolved. Not sure why, but, the rear tailgate opens and closes on its own. Not while driving, however! Had an ongoing issue after a few weeks with CEL going on. They looked at it and said it was fixed by replacing an O2 sensor. Light came back on two weeks later. Then, on and off every once in awhile. Now, it is magically staying off. Visibility is outstanding. The start/stop feature requires a two step menu driven action to turn off. I really don't like it and it is a slight annoyance to have to go through this every time. Dealership sales experience was very good, service experience very bad. I am used to next day service with Lexus, with Land Rover, it is more like three week appointments. I knew this would be an issue, but, the car is so much more enjoyable than the Lexus GX we had, and, much better MPG and hugely bigger gas tank. Please note, this is the top of the line trim with the V6, not the four cylinder. There was not option to select the model, it is a P360, turbo six.

I traded my 2021 Atlas for a 2018 Discovery hse after seeing how cool my client’s new Discovery is. The leather, the several compartments and the tailgate guard that raises and lowers were what hooked me. A week after purchasing I noticed water droplets on the passenger side dash. Another week later during a heavy rain, I watched as water poured inside. I called Tom Wood Landrover three times and still haven’t spoken to a live person. Meanwhile, a mildew smell is now noticeable. Luckily, Carmax is giving me a full refund, but Im so disappointed that such a luxury suv that hits all the highend marks misses on such basic things! Im kicking myself for not keeping my Atlas.

Quite possibly the worst purchase I’ve ever made! Stay away!! The list of issues is extensive and only got worse after the warranty expired. Two windshield replacement due to water leaks, console cooler stopped working at 50k miles and it was barely used. Oil leaks. Hood cable replaced twice before 60k miles, so many software updates to fix glitches that varied from screens just randomly going black, slow touchscreen response, freezing infotainment…more oil leaks. Sunroof motor replaced before 60kmiles, DEF errors galore!! This HSE Lux TD6 just eats through tires. But maybe Continental tires just suck. Seat belt assembly issues. More oil leaks. Its just an awful car! There’s a reason LR has two protective plates underneath. They don’t want you to see all the plastic connected to metal components. First and Last LR! Way too many issues for a 5yr old car.

I leased the Discovery right when it came out, in 2017. The SE model came with a 6cylinder that I loved. The engine had great acceleration and power. The ride was soft and sturdy at the same time. What I loved most about the ride is that it wasn't too springy like a Buick or Tahoe. The chassis absorbs a ton of road vibration, and bumps but maintain a rigidity that makes it feel controlled. I almost bought the car at the end of the lease but instead bought a new Defender. I had zero issues with the car with the exception of the infotainment unit that would turn off every now and then (once a month). The blip would last maybe a few seconds and then it would just reboot itself. Not a game changer. I drove the car hard and often and had zero complaints or mechanical issues. The engine was very reliable and efficient for a car of this size. I would definitely recommend it. Love the Discovery but now I am a Defender owner!!!

We bought a 2019 new & absolutely love it. The Bluetooth is temperamental sometimes which is a pain & there was a recall on the leaking windshield, but it’s a steady, heavy, capable hauler. In 63K kms we are now having to do our first set of breaks which will be its 1st big service.

2nd Disco and 2nd blown engine

I purchased my first Land Rover in 2007. It was an 04 Disco with 30xxx miles and I really loved the ruggedness and overall coolness of the vehicle. Fast forward a year and a half and it was a nightmare. The oil pump blows on the freeway and totally destroys the engine. That was the first engine failure of any vehicle I had previously owned. It shook me pretty bad and I stayed away from Land Rovers for 18 years. The new Discovery really caught my eye and I thought for sure Land Rover had changed as far as reliability goes...I was mistaken. I purchased my 2019 Discovery SE with 26000 miles on it. The first thing to happen was tires wearing quicker than normal and alignment issues. The next thing was the car going into limp mode at low RPMs. I took it to Land Rover and they said it was the catalytic Converter. They had the car for 4 weeks due to the part being on backorder. This was done at 37k miles. At 43k I was driving low RPMs through subdivision and the engine started hesitating. I pulled over got it towed and sure enough it needs a new engine. Conveniently, the car is out of warranty now. $22,000 was the price I was given. Never again will I buy a Land Rover.

This fully loaded LandRover has it all. I am driving the Landmark Edition which come with some great equipment. Too much to list. I just love it. The size is amazing. Includes a 3rd. row seating that flip down to a flat level with the seats in the second row to double the loading space to 6.5' deep and an automated tailgate builtin.

Worst vehicle ever!! In 6 months I have made $10,000 worth of repairs and that does not include the new tires and brake pads. It has spent more time in the shop than on the road.

We bought out a 2018 CPO in early December 2021. We thought a CPO car was a safe way to get into a used Land Rover. After four months
