200k plus and still rolling... Mountain 2 DR 6 SP
Ok ...after being a loyal jeep owner since my teens I decided tot go find a project and go forward. Little history ... I've owned 3 CJ-5s (one w/V8) . 5 CJ-7s and one TJ Rubicon before this JK Mountain....All different levels of Mods, trims and some were better than others and I will admit the TJ Rubicon is a tough one to beat.... On with the JK I bought it used and it was not maintained well at all. ... Im also relatively sure it was stored in a snowbank that was covered with salt for an extended period just to make this one more challenging.. . So i knew it from day one this would need some work...one of my main complaints coming from experience with original jeeps is this one has a sensor for everything... I would say at this time most if not all have been replaced....along with general issues with the wiring harness ...It needed a few new connectors here and there....Cleaned up a number of previous idiot owners attempts at splicing optional items in with no attention to sealing out moisturizing or protective covering around sharp or high temperature areas...This is a real jeep w/ 6 speed manual transmission... which was the same transmission that came with my Rubicon...well the new one i put in at 70k miles is still fine... the original would not stay in gear, had trouble going into gear and growled at all speeds.... I chalk that up to the original owner being a loyal automatic transmission slave and the learning curve for driving a standard was beyond his abilities...all the other wearable parts that were original equipment have been replaced, rebuilt or maintained up to a qualified operational level...That would include all brake hardware, hoses,;; steering components, shocks, track bars driveshafts, axles, lights, ect ect ect... I will also say besides regular oil changes to clean up the motor it doesn't burn any noticable amount of oil.. There is a planned upgrade in the near future.. i did put a oil pressure gauge on it and she pounds out high oil pressure and the A/C I haven't touched except for a quick pressure check topped off coolant and added.some oil to the system....Now i will tell you i am a driver and i live near a major city with a broad range of driver,s from diverse cultures and abilities with I high percentage of complete incompetent operators that should have there licenses revoked and their cars impounded...but what im trying to say the traffic in this area tends to resemble a MAD MAX movie while throwing in a geriatric surprise every 100th. car.... Note: I rode a bike in this town and have been hit by cars 3 times.... absolutely Amazing the comment at the accident sites... So you either drive or die in this town....I digress..the V6 3.8 is not a bad motor it just needs to be driven ..the power is between .3-4.5k rpm... if you are under that or you have an automatic ....go sell the car and get a bus pass... you have no business out here with the grownups. and i know you bought your jeep to look cool....but cool is within and all the paint, tires and options are not going to get you there.... I have driven most of my jeeps in.hood height swamp waters with snakes and alligators deep under the moonlight and i keep making it back...yes this mountain has been a project but overall ive been pleased... I only wonder what it might have been like if i didnt have to repair all the prior abuse and neglect and the refection on my wallet. I did add leather seats considering I have so much into this one financially ill probably keep it till either I or the jeep turns to dust...

Still breaking necks after 14 years
Let me start by saying that, this is not my first Jeep product, But it is my first JKU body. This is my daily driver, and While I take excellent care of it, some are just Jeep conditions; I maintain a rust free frame, floors and body, (even in Canada) the motor is very underpowered, for the Rubicon model; with the 3.8 L. Windshield will always end up cracked, when you replace it go with the gorilla glass, it’s slightly more durable, and in my experience, it hasn’t underperformed the original in time or quality. Interior space is exactly as expected, even more so with the soft top. I have used it for off-road, camping, moving, and never had any issues. Maintenance wise, I have replaced the brakes entirely once, pads twice. Brake fluid/power steering fluid maintenance regularly, spark plugs on schedule. Heater core I replaced at 200,000 km 240,000km all around shocks & coil springs 250,000 km, I replaced the lower intake manifold gasket, upper intake manifold gaskets; thermostat, all cooling hoses. A jeep is incredibly robust, and very easy to work on, based on it sitting height, and although there are some quality control/engineering issues, such as electronic, swaybar disconnect, on the Rubicon models, which is prone to taking on water and debris and failing; (mine broke off inside at the gearhead) this is a $3000 part, but you have other options, as long as five or $600; not as convenient, but workable. as far as a vehicle, and its utility is concerned, it’s an excellent choice. Iconic.
