Finally! Electric That Nails It!
So coming out of a Hyundai Nexo fuel cell electric SUV. Loved the Nexo. Really hit almost every mark for me. Might actually get another when the 2023's come out . So why an Ioniq 5? Well besides the nearly unanimous high praise and great reviews, I liked what I saw and learned about it. Zero buyers remorse on this car. Pretty much favorite lifetime car . Driving for almost a month now and Hyundai really went all out on this vehicle. They have a lot riding on it and really did pull off a true winner. Crossover height so lower than a SUV (like the Nexo) but higher than a sedan. Some might call it perfect in that regard. Looks most everyone seems to love including me. It's different in a good way. But this car has high end features and design elements inside and out. They really went all the way on this car and yes the Genesis electric model coming out soon will certainly have more luxury features and plushness but a very different and more conventional design. And that does not mean this car does not have plushness. It feels very high end inside and out. Small details abound and fit and finish is superb. It rides beautifully! Quietest car I have ever been in. I have a limited with 20" big wide Michelin Primacy tires. I was worried that normally 20" tires ride rougher. Not here. The suspension soaks up the nasty Los Angeles roads and freeways like soft butter yet still a responsive and perfect ride feel balance for handling. With muted sound and ZERO wind noise or rattles anywhere. Better than the Nexo. Finish quality is superb. Doors close and need an extra pressure because they thud with the most knowing sound of a great "seal". Power. Way more than enough and if want to compare numbers you should just stop. If you want a race car buy one. This car can out jump and blow by just about anyone if that's your thing. Not mine, but once in a while jumping away to change lanes or getting out of the way from a dumb driver who does something stupid is awesome and a great safety feature in my book. And it's fun! Inside comfort and seats are excellent. Not to soft and not to firm. Side bolsters for my 215 pound 6'2 frame are perfect. Some cars are to extreme pushing on my sides. These are great. Legroom is excellent as is seating position adujustments. Visibility excellent the camera quality and HD display quality is as good as it gets. My wife commented on how "nice" and simply classy with a sense of style the interior is. Color accented details of stitching on seats and trim she noticed and likes. Me too. It all really works and shows a massive amount of attention to detail. The tech in the car may be overwhelming for some, but for me it is all very welcome. Most all of the defaults are where I want them with the tech on, but you can turn things off and even customize everything for two different drivers. Brilliant. The tech really works fantastic and the abundance of safety features has you covered like no other. If you get in an accident in this car no way it should be your fault with all the alerts and auto steer and braking avoidance happening for so many types of incidents. The Highway driving assist 2 works quite well and also has customization. Yes the car can ping pong a bit on certain roads depending on things but it works and feels safe. And yes you need to at least lightly keep your hands on the wheel or it will start binging at you. Also love the slightly squared off bottom of the steering wheel. Gives you a little better "slide in " room and really feels great and comfortable in hand. No issues. Controls buttons are mostly all haptic but work well and the system is blazingly fast at everything it does with no delays, even the start up is really fast. Also extra buttons are customizable for many different uses. I-pedal driving mode is true one pedal and perfectly calibrated. Both at stops and in starts. Pedal feel is perfect (to me) both for acceleration and braking. 4 different Regen modes all not only adjustable but finally, it remembers and keeps your last setting. The nexo would not do this and I complained about it so maybe Hyundai listened. Only the I-pedal mode does not default and it should. You start in level 3 regen and then have to pull the paddle once for i-pedal. Hyundai, please also make i-pedal a default memory option if that is what the driver wants. And auto hold parking is also now on memory so if you turn it on it stays on all the time. Excellent ! Audio system is Bose and better than the last Bose one I had but not as good as the audio system in the Nexo. Why not? For the top of the line Ioniq 5 they should have put in the better audio system. It does have a lot of adjustments and you will need to adjust and increase trebble , mids and lows to get better sound. Charging and it's many many option settings are all great. interface with the Hyundai BlueLink app on the phone also works great. Hope they add more features to it . Yes there are a few things that you may think should be changed but certainly no deal breakers. Most people complain about no rear windshield wiper. Here the thing. The angle on the rear window is really no different then many sedans that don't have wipers. Yes a wiper would be nice and particularly if you are used to looking out your rear view mirror a lot and live in a rainy/snowy or wintery area. RainX does for sure help the water bead away but again, no different than a sedan. I'm sure with all the outcry they will update next years model with either a digital camera rear view mirror or a wiper. Lower door sills seem to stick out more than other cars. This car is "wide" so when you get out or in, your leg will rub the door sill unless you swing out wide. I'm getting used to it after a while and not a problem. But if your car is dirty and you brush up on it all the time you may get some dirt on your pants. Turning on the seat heaters and ventilation is only on the touch display. It says there is an "auto" option to turn them on but I can't get it to work. They really should let you set a default temp and assign the on/off to one of the three blank user selectable option buttons either on the steering wheel or control console. Climate control works well but so far I have not gotten the auto mode to kick in to high fan speed when the car is hot inside. You have to do it manually from the haptic button on the console. And yes I do have the system set to normal and not eco, so it should go to higher speed when in auto mode if the car is hot. My Nexo did this. Charger port door does not open when you touch it. It is supposed to so guessing it is broken but that is the only thing that seems broken so far on the car. ( voice control and key fob do open it so you have options). Nav system is the "regular" one for Hyundai. My Nexo used the premium Nav software which is considerably better. Please upgrade the Nav software!! Fast charging is for real and is a game changer for anxiety. I have superfast 350kwh chargers near me that so far seem open. Free 30 minute charges is great as that basically fills you up. Range is as advertised or greater which is nice. Space in the car is amazing. It feels open and with seats folded I have actually more room than my Nexo. Can you tell I like it?? Congrats and Thank you Hyundai!

Gave up a Porsche Cayenne turbo - no regrets!
Loved the Cayenne but started feeling guilty about the amount of premium gas I was burning. So bought an Ionic 5 Limited. It’s a wonderful car. Quiet, smooth on bumpy streets, plenty of acceleration (especially in sport mode). Lots of interior room (more than one would expect from the exterior view). Excellent build quality. Love the high speed charging that’s included free for two years. Before buying it, I looked at the Teslas. But was won over by the better price/value, the smoother ride, and the faster (20 minute) charging on the Ionic 5 at 800 V. (Teslas are 400 V). Hyundai may not have the prestige but they’ve got the technology and they build them right. Only negative I can think of is the audio system is a little weak. Overall, highly recommended.

EV Sweet Spot
Replaced a 2020 Ford Explorer with a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL RWD. Was nervous about size but fits golf clubs width-wise easily and even a wheel chair was no problem with back seats up. Split seats make the storage truly flexible and with both down it was as much space as I'd ever need. Long trips with a family of 4 might require using the roof rack for more than 4-5 large carry-type bags. Passenger space is surprisingly excellent. Back floor is totally flat which helps. Driver position is very comfortable; seats are sport-like and breath really well considering my trim does not have ventilation (I have a Model 3 which is awful for this). The car truly drives well and the acceleration is surprisingly swift, even at high speed, even without the AWD add on. A very comfortable car to drive that feels uncramped, yet can feel sporty if you hit it hard. I personally love the styling and in just one day feel as if I'm under a microscope as everyone stares at the car. Currently in CA where I live there are outrageous markups on every car imaginable, this car being no exception. If not for a trade in that enjoyed the same overvaluation, it would be tough to swallow but I feel as if the value even at the price I paid is truly excellent, especially given that I'm going from a car that gets an average of 16 MPG to not paying for gas.

Wow!
This is our first electric vehicle and what a great surprise. I ordered it without test driving it first - which was strange but decided to take the risk and it was well worth it. As with everything there are pros and cons and these are my main take-aways after driving it for almost 2 weeks. Pros: -The driving comfort is just superb. The suspension is the best that I have been in by far. You, do not, feel, the bumps. Period. -The seats were also the best I have encountered (I drove it in the highway for more than 13 hours). -You can customize almost any setting to your preference: from the interior light color, to the safety features. And technology feels balanced with practicality -The combination of power, breaking (or, removing your foot off the accelerator, I should say) and the quite interior, are better than I ever expected. -The interior feels (and is) bigger than it seems from outside with good quality materials in general. Cons: -Driving at high constant speeds (aka, the highway) will lower your mileage range per charge -Driving in cold temperatures (and I mean driving in the 40s or below) will also lower the range -The combination of the two above, are almost lethal to the battery. I was getting more like 150 miles per battery charge driving in the highway with temps between 37 - 45 F and average speed of 80 miles/hr. when the best range is 260 miles or so for the AWD models. -We have three little kids and while they fit in the back seat, it is very tight to fit three car seats, booster seats, or the combination of the two. -For some reason, the car did not come with floor mats, including for the back/truck area. I called the local Hyundai dealer to see if I can buy some and they said that they may be in stock three months from now. Is it only me or it is strange that mats are not sold at the same time as the car, or with the car? -Visibility to the exterior is important to me when backing up and the visibility is not terrible but not good, however, there is a bird's eye camera view you can see on the screen in the dashboard that shows with detail the surroundings and your proximity that easily makes-up for the poorer visibility (this view comes in automatically when you shift to reverse) Overall I think this vehicle is amazing and depending on your specific needs and situation, it could very well be the ideal vehicle.
RWD SEL
Things we liked (as a family): 1. Was sold on the ride comfort - much better than our Tesla 2. VERY LOW road/wind noise - including on highway - it is quieter than our Audi that is more than double the price. 3. Great ergonomics - This car has build quality of a true luxury car. 4. Lot of interior space (driver/passenger compartment) - especially in the back seats - more than our BMW SUV 5. Interior lightning - at night the car is gorgeous 6. Cool design 7. Range - 303 miles - we live in a warm place and if we were to charge it 100% we are getting approximately 320-326 miles 8. Assisted driving features - the car even changes lane on the freeway when you put your turn signal indicator - this is included on this car vs. Tesla you will have buy the 12k option 9. Great visibility 10. Has Apple CarPlay. 11. Came with Michelin Tires 12. Has home link (don't have to pay extra unlike in our Tesla) 13. Super fast charging 14. 2 years free charging 15. Great warranty 16. Tax credit 17. GREAT VALUE for the price Things we didn't like: 1. Trunk space 2. Apple CarPlay wasn't wireless 3. Our SEL model didn't have glass panel roof 4. Have to buy a 240 V charger for home

Great car ... BUT
Bought the car in early December - sight unseen but based on the reviews thought I'd love it. I do love it . . . BUT there are things I don't like. The lack of a wiper on the rear window is a BIG issue - in heavy rain, wet snow you literally cannot see out the window. The backup camera is useless when it's raining. Backing up in inclement weather is hazardous. Don't like that I have to reset my settings every time I start up the car - everything goes back to default and there are too many steps every time to reset once you start up again. I do get a lot of compliments on the car, it rides VERY WELL, is comfortable and spacious, but the above mentioned issues are annoying!

Great Car with typical EV limitations
In Jan, I traded in my 2020 Mercedes GLC 300 for the SE AWD. I can honestly say that the interior is quieter and the ride softer. The seats are great, and I love the interior layout. Plus, it’s been problem free. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. That being said I learned the hard way that buying any EV has limitations. Namely, finding a charging station on long trips, especially into rural areas. Then being prepared to drive a distance off the highway to get to one, and sit for up to an hour to get a 100% charge. I’m retired and 99% of my driving is local. This car would be very unsuitable if I did long trips that required “fill ups.” The Tesla charging network is much better for that.

Terrific car. Turns heads and tech options galore. I get over 300 mi on a full charge and with a level 2 charger in the garage, no range worries. Couldn’t be happier.

Bloated gadget centre on four wheels...
Let me start with the positive: We love the exterior aesthetic, and no problems with anything on the electric-side. We have the extended range AWD version, and the transition to electric, with all of the onboard support systems for managing has been easy. Kudos there! But unfortunately I have some poor experiences with this car: FIRST: Sadly, with this vehicle Hyundai turned its back on the car industry's century of cockpit evolution for drivers. Instead they leaped towards a gadget-forward, menu-centric, digital hell. I'm a driver with 30 years of driving experience in dozens of cars, who goes between plenty of rental cars, and also operates complex heavy equipment - I can readily adapt to reasonable differences. But with this vehicle I waste a lot of unnecessary time and frustration with the controls. This includes having to pull over and look things up once in a while - for things that should properly be intuitive, and NOT buried within menus or touch screens. The acute loss of tactile dials and buttons, in exchange for confusing icons and (surprisingly insensitive) touch-screens has a very real and negative impact on the ease of every-day driving. SECOND: I had to buy it without seeing a live version, and my first warning is that its hot-hatch look is very deceiving. Its a bulky beast that (other than the expected e-acceleration) feels like driving a minivan... Even in sport mode, it is a "luxury" ride that belies the look of the car. Cornering at speed is a disappointing experience, with chassis feeling strangely disconnected from the road. THIRD: Because of all of this bulk, there is little chance of safely backing-up w/o the camera - and in a Canadian winter the camera is always road-grimed. The option of looking through the back hatch is similarly obscured. Why not use the rear wiper you say? Oh, IT DOESN'T COME WITH ONE OF THOSE for some completely unknown reason... I've read some thoughts that the designers didn't feel it needed one given the streamlining or some such. I can vigorously contradict this with real-world winter driving (and even just dirt roads). For sure shouldn't have been allowed on the market without a wiper. In other conspicuously missing equipment, selling a SUV without roof rails - or other rack mounts is ridiculous. Coupled with an exposed charge hatch that collects snow and ice if you charge outdoors, and a spoiler that collects snow and ice, winters are definitely a challenge, due NOTHING to just battery limitations, which I was expecting. It's the lack of respect for a long history of practical industry experience on such basic things. Similarly, the touch-sensitive screens and "buttons" are challenged in the cold. The loss of dials for core climate control (w gloves on) is a particular nuisance. Other than the awesome (!) heated steering wheel and seats (if you can figure out how to turn them on - and get the touch screen to accept your cold finger to do so...), this is NOT a well thought out winter car!!! OVERALL: Stellar electrification, but incredibly handicapped by tossing-out practical driving controls. I am surprisingly disappointed as an owner, given the rave reviews I read before buying. I feel the above issues need much more consideration for anyone who expects practical drivability - particularly in winter conditions. If you are a tech-loving driver - that lives somewhere without winter, and doesn't really push a vehicle, this may well be the car for you. But, after only 20,000km, my wife and I are done with this car, and in the market for a more practical, smaller, and more fun vehicle.
Love It!!
I have to say so far I am liking my ioniq5. It is fun to drive and it's saving me plenty on gas. I am 6' and I have plenty of leg room while driving and passengers in the rear seats have great left room. It rides smooth and the interior cabin is quiet I'm still getting used to all the features but with 500 miles so far I definitely am happy with my purchase. Update. I have now had my Ioniq5 for 13 months and 10,500 miles and I'm just as happy with the car as I was on day one. I had no issues as far as charging goes, at first like most people transitioning from a gasoline car you worry about running out of electric but I never had an issue. It's been nice having 2 years of free charging as well. I am a little concerned hearing other Ioniq5 owners had major failure of the ICCU unit which seenlms to occur around the 1 year mark. I am at that point I hope my car is affected I will update if anything changes. I definitely would recommend the Ioniq5.

Excellent so far
The 2022 Ioniq 5 SE is one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. The acceleration is quick and smooth. Seats are comfortable and large. Storage is adequate for several golf bags. Driving range has not been a problem with my daily1 hour commute.
ironic ioniq 5
The LED must be quite a bit better than the LE model; but the LED is certainly no LIMITED. No rear seat side window shades, no driver seat leg rest, no heads-up, no "think ahead" for frunk space like Tesla, and why, for pete's sake, no rear window wiper. The rain for the first day driving kept me from seeing anything behind me! The mile meter is very accurate. Haven't yet figured out the "free charging" arrangement. Surprised to find most of the charging stations well hidden. Not one road sign indicators to show where they are. You must stop and ask a local. When you finally locate a charging station, not just SOME, but MOST of the kiosks are inoperable. The 800 phone number won't get you anything either. So don't wait for the next station when you're down to 11 miles or you may just be out of luck.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 vibration at 60mph! Buyer beware
Purchased the Ioniq 5 limited last Thursday, 3/24. Over the next couple of days, I noticed that while driving between 60-70 mph that the steering wheel was shaking excessively. I brought it into the dealer on Monday 3/28 and it has been there for 5 days and counting. Now I am stuck paying for a brand new car that I can’t even drive. Was looking so forward to it but am now so disappointed. Please test drive the car multiple times at highway speeds before buying.

12v battery issue
Car has 30k miles on it, I had it parked at work turned it on and the console said 12v battery is weak, then the car just died. Could not turn it on no matter what I did. Called the dealer and he said it needs to be towed. I read reviews and lot of people have had this issue where the 12v dies without warning and so does the car. Second issue is the battery/car driving range in winter. I am barely getting 150 miles while I was getting 250 miles in summer on a full charge.

WARNING - problem with "trip cancel" and air flow
If you try to move the air flow on the driver's side; it is so close to the Cancel trip above it; your trip will be canceled. Not fun when you have to pull over and re-enter destination!

Refreashing style. Tesla style a bit long in the tooth. Great driving. Reasonable range. Didn’t have Waite for 8 months

Revelatory, but plebian surfaces and paint quality
Upon arrival the 5 appears larger than in photos, and a bit of a science project. The protruding hood appears to beg being nicked, and the paint quality suffers from significant orange peel. Interior is indeed commodious in size, with comfy front seats, but surfaces are declasse for the price point indeed. Rear cargo space and access are impressive, as is slightly taller stance than pictured, using tall tire/wheels for winter and slight off-road capabilities. The "Z" side-sculps are neither interesting nor repulsive. The long inner door grab handles are a nice touch. The exterior flippable door handles seem fragile...especially when iced up?); the rear doors required a significant slam to fully close. I'm hoping that the Limited iteration boasts nicer interior touches...and at least an electronic hatch closure, which is weirdly missing on the SE, making it impossible for short folks to close it? If the delta to the upcoming GV60 is less than +10-15% then, despite more conventional exterior, it may be a much more compelling semi-luxurious choice, as the 5 SE feels like a $30k econobox.

Extreme high price
Ugliest EV at the market. Biggest mistake in my life. Very cheap materiel. With the same money, may buy a similar size Mercedes Benz EV which is 100 time better than this one. A max 30K vehicle, they are selling straight double.

One of my better decisions!
After owning a Chevy Volt for several years, it was time to go all-in on a long range EV. The ioniq 5 is efficient, fast, roomy and smooth. I put a 2" receiver hitch on it, and pull a landscape trailer when needed. As time goes on, I hope Hyundai makes the following minor improvements: 1. Rear wiper blade 2. Labeling on the steering wheel for volume and channel selection (both are missing) 3. Front wiper arms that are spring loaded so they can be folded out of the way for windshield cleaning 4. Inside door lock button, so the doors automatically lock when the key fob leaves the area (after activation) 5. When putting the vehicle in Drive, the regeneration defaults to level 3 every time. It would be great if the last selection (0,1,2, or 3) appeared each time the vehicle is started. Otherwise, my spouse, mechanic or friend would wonder why the car seems to be dragging when it accelerates. 6. Finally, the touch controls for the heating and cooling system are not logically ordered, and are hard to see. The output selection (windshield; floor; etc) is not next to the fan speed selector, so the driver actually has to stare at the control panel for a moment to see and understand the controls. I bought the car for it's reputation, cargo space (more than the Mach e or ev6) and fast-charging ability, and I'm very happy. No regrets!

Smooth and quick
Smooth. Zippy on the streets. Hands down my favorite car I have owned. Most expensive too lol. The longer I have had it, the more I like the look of the exterior. Same goes for the interior, I've gotten the hang of the digital interface and have it customized to my liking. Now the negative... The ICCU is not perfect and can have issues. There have been recalls and usually it is just a programmable update that you bring to the dealership to fix. The 2025 ioniq 5 has a new ICCU so that problem shouldn't exist with the new ones. The car itself is feels like a spacious hatchback car, not bulky at all. Overall I do not recommend this car to young drivers, but everyone else, enjoy!

2.5 years charging issue led to a bettery failure
Since day 1 after the purchase of new 2022 Ioniq-5LMT we had problem with charging time and use of excessive power vs 77Kwt to charge fully bettery. After a few service maintenance, where we also complained on time and exccess of power on charging we were ignored. Finally in Jan 2025 the car stopped on the middle of the road and we had to tow it to the Dealer and it is still there. I put two stars because the car truly have many options and comfort. If not for the technical issue, we would keep it.
