4th S2000 I've owned. So far the best!
The title is correct. I've owned 4 of these amazing roadsters. 2007, 2002, 2003 and now a 2004. The 2007 had the VSA and the throttle-by-wire feature where there is no physical throttle cable to the manifold. The larger 2.2 engine in the later models makes commuting easier and less noisy. The earlier ones rev higher, are louder and (in my opinion) faster. The 2004 is my favorite so far. Not as encumbered with electrical nannies. The immediacy of the throttle mirrors the earlier model and the styling changes are very much to my liking. Overall this is a great car for any enthusiast. I've owned many cars and this is the most visceral car I've owned. My advice is get one while you still can! I just bought a 2013 Subaru BRZ for cold weather commuting and the S2000 is far superior in most areas. Fit and finish, the S2000's materials seem to be of higher quality. The cars are similar in size and weight and yet the S2000 seems 'sturdier' and the S2000 is still considerably faster. The BRZ is great and the steering feel is better but it does not have the 'single purpose' responses that the S2000 has. If my better half suggested I 'thin the herd' no doubt my NFR S2000 (19,000 miles) would be the survivor of the purge.

Sold the CBR
I'm 37, just had my 4th kid - wife said no more motorcycles. So we compromised: S2000 (I win). I have a '65 Cobra replica that doesn't get the attention that this car gets - and lemme tell you the S2000 is more fun to drive and easier on the body. I hate to use a cliche, but it's a typical Honda: reliable, well- engineered, predictable (in a good way) and advanced. 240 HP out of a 4 cyl. that blows-away cars costing $15,000+ more. It's precise and road- sticky ... you can kick the back-end out when you want, but it never seems to do it absent a quick down-shift and 6,000 RPM boost. ** It would be perfect if it could re- grow some of my hair (I'm in pre-mid- life crisis mode).

Awesomeness!!
First of all, I'm 60 years old. I bought this car as a retirement gift to myself, and I'm glad I did! There's so much to love about this car. The acceleration and handling are absolutely superb! It's a little light on the technology spectrum, but who cares? I didn't buy it for that, I bought it to have fun driving...and boy, does it hit the mark! When people ask me how it is to drive, I tell them it's like driving a street legal go-kart on steroids. I wish it had a little better sound system to account for the road noise, but it's a small price to pay for the exhilaration of pure driving fun. UPDATE 2019: I have sold this car to a friend (most of the time this practice is frowned upon, but for this car it was a no-brainer). The car was still perfect when I sold it. I wanted something with a little more interior room, but still wanted something with similar road manners as my S2000, and ended up buying a 2010 Infiniti G37S. I don't regret it. This car is also VERY nice and it has a lot more amenities than the S2000. I would say that for pure driving enjoyment, the S2000 is still the better car, but the G37S is not far behind!

great car
What a great car. Like a motorcycle with four wheels. I have had zero problems. Handles like its on rails. Full size golf bag fits in trunk, just don't try two!
A Blast
I had wanted this car since it came on the market. The sound of the exhaust, its strong, sporty appearance. All of its lure comes to life once you are behind the wheel. I'm a 1970's TR6 owner, so in being a sports car purest, the S2000 is marvelous fun. The car's handling is perfection and makes you hunt out winding roads for afternoon drives not to mention how much fun just driving to work can be. I enjoy every second behind the wheel. If you want an exciting ride, this is it!
A must for any true sports car fan
From one who has owned this car for almost three years now, one word suffices: Whee!! I can't think of a better buy. For those with complaints about rattles, the fixes are simple: For the passenger seatbelt rattle, twist the metal part of the seatbelt around the strap so that it lies flat against the passenger seat. For the rattle the clips for the convertible top make, pull the control for the top toward you after you put the top up for the night. That locks the clips in place. They no longer rattle. If the glove compartment rattles, line it with something soft and black. The dealership did that for me for free. It looks great and there is no more rattle.
I Love My Baby
The S2000 is a great car, if it's what you're looking for. I get people all the time that ask me what kind of car it is, and about its stats. These things are very rare, which I love as Mustangs and Z4's are a dime a dozen. It's a true roadster that's best with the top down on an open road. Long highway trips can be tiring when cruising in 6gear with the engin humming around 4k rpm's for hours. I highly recommend test driving this beast as well as the compitition to truly get a feeling of what it's about. I bought mine as a welcome back to America present after being deployed to Iraq, and did several months of research before purchasing. You should do the same.
Amazing fun true sports car
What can I say about this car? It's an amazing sports car and amazing daily driver. The purpose-built simplicity, the ground up focus on driving performance, the efficiency/gas mileage (amazing for a true sports car), the proven Honda reliability, the timeless aggressive roadster look, the ease of upgrading if it's not enough (unmodified engine can handle 800hp!), the awesome resale value (why would you ever sell this!), the exhilerating feel and sound of Vtec, the unmatched HP per liter, the sinful exhilerating fun of the open top combined with everything else... All this makes the Honda S2000 one of the best sports cars every produced if not the best, even compared to exotics. Plus it's affordable. It's better in most all aspects than all it's immediate competition at a more affordable price and 10x the reliability too. This is a true drivers car.

Love my little red sport car
Fell in love when I saw it in the showroom, love has not stopped, it's an attention getter, performs like a regular car when you want and it's like a bat coming out of hell when you want it to be one. Truly a great car. My seat where stolen once, desirable item I guess.
My Black Roadster
At 60-years young I've been a car nut most of my adult life. I have to admit the S2 is the most fun machine I've driven. Value?... you would have to pay thousands more to get a roadster with the handling, performance, & styling of the S2. I'd like to know the process or the nut who figured the S2 @ 20 mpg! I'm on my 2nd S2 the very worst I've gotten, driving hard in the mountains, was 22 mpg, I'll average 24 mpg on the highway 27 mpg.
Looks Great, but a bit scary
I like my Honda S2004, but it almost has more power than I feel I can handle. The back end always feels like it is a split second from breaking loose. Maybe because I spun it around on some frost covered roads right after I bought it. Now it sits in the garage all winter.
best car ever
I have own my 2005 GPW for 7 years and this car has been so faithful as a daily driver and track car. The only issued i ever had was the clutch other then that this car is bullet proof. Runs handles like a dream and would recommend this car to any one.

Tough Decision -
I love this car. I love the way it handles, I love the way it accelerates, and I love the way it feels zooming down the highway at 80 mph with the wind rushing by. I bought a used 2004 with 39,800 miles on it and in amazingly good condition for about $18,000 hoping to have both a fun car to drive and an investment that would maintain or lose very little value over time. I nailed it. I show the car a few times a year and still find myself clearing my calendar when the weather is going to be good so I can take it for a nice long drive. Tough decision? Drive it or store it? Driving is a blast, but storing it will only increase the value (or bleeds out the value more slowly).
Great car that few know about. Shoosh!
I've had this car for only two months and it's been nothing but fun. Few people know what it is, and the styling gets a lot of comments. With its low production, it stays under the radar. Great acceleration and handling, with every control within reach. Top goes down in five seconds with ease. It's no wonder that it has the highest residual value after three years.
GR8 S2K
Wow. All cars should have "the package" like this one does. economy, reliability, quality, performance. This is a "fun time" doing what used to be called "just driving". The best 5 speed gearbox on the planet! 23 to 28 MPG with 240 horsepower and only 2800 pounds!! but its not stripped down.. its got all the "stuff"!
S2000 It's all you need!
As with most on this site, I've been working toward this car for about 4 years and I finally got it. It was used, but still under warranty and had low miles. This is BY far the most fun car to drive. There are not too many cars out there that can give you the feeling that this car can. Ask any other S2000 owner and you'll see what I mean. Things to watch for are paint chips, rear tire wear and nasty break dust in the front. I've had very good luck with GoodYear F1 tires, good wet control with plenty of dry grip. I wouldn't trade this car for anything. Many people look at me and ask what sort of car this is... Drop the top, find a nice twisty road and blast!
The little Rocket
This little car handle like a rocket.I own a 2007 Honda Si, this car handle well, but not as good as the S2000. Well, if you want to hear this little rocket vtec kicks, shift to first gear and accelerate until you hit 8000 rpm and shift to second gear and will will know what I am talking about. Don't believe me! Try it for yourself.
Pocket Rocket
This has made me quickly forget my Mustang GT. I tried the 350Z, Infinity I35 Coupe and the Mazda rx-8. They just don't get it. You want a real sports car that isn't compromised, then this is the car for you.
Best bang for buck you'll ever find.
The S2000 is for those fun-loving people. It drives so smoothly, and takes turns even smoother. Sexy styling, and the interior looks like a cockpit. Real cool. System sucks but who cares, because if you get this car and don't pimp it out you don't know what you're missing out on. TURNS HEADS WHEREVER YOU GO. Who care about torque when you got everyone staring at you driving down the street with the top down and system up?
Doesn't Get Any Better!
I had no suprises with this vehicle. It met every expectation!
Fun to drive!!
Faster than the MR2 and Miata, more agile than the 350Z roadster and a LOT less money than a Boxster, Z4 or TT, the S2000 hits a sweet spot. It has a mid-engined 4 cylinder (yes the motor sits entirely behind the front axle), a power to weight ratio better than anything within $20K and handling and brakes to match. If you're considering a roadster, go test drive an S2000! When the rpms go above 6000, VTEC kicks in and you're pushed back in your seat - what a rush! This is the most fun to drive car I've ever owned! The biggest downside I can find is lack of passenger side airbag cut-off which means children under 12 should not ride in this car.
s2000
Amazing vehicle, I drive it daily and I don't believe there is a more fun to drive vehicle that is this dependable. I have taken to drag strip, ran great times, had around BMS a few laps and no issues. Do the maintenance and drive it. I do not have one complaint.
Fantastic
A superlative driving experience; the '04 exterior treatments subtly improve the overall look of the car, while the 2.2L gives it more usable torque and passing power around 3000rpm than the previous models. The revised suspension is more comfortable over bad roads as well. And yet, no loss of performance!
Finally got my S2K
Best way to describe it: "Everything you need; nothing you don't." I live in Michigan and this IS my daily driver. There is no doubt that this is an "enthusiasts" car. You will wear this car like your best pair of jeans. The 2.2L '04 engine has plenty of torque down low and enough top end to make you feel like you're drivng F1. There are scores of additional updates for '04 as compared to '03. One key note: The '04 model produces significantly MORE power/torque than Honda claims-check out www.vtec.net for details. Fuel economy of 20/25 city/hwy isn't bad for a sports car.
Can't wait for spring
Very happy with my S2000. Plenty has been written about this car and it lives up to all of it. Great performance for the price.
AWSOME CAR
I love this car it's got the speed the handleing of a true sport car
faster than a boxter without the mechani
what a pure sportscar.
exelent
its the best car and i love it i drive it with the top off even in da rain, snow and fog
What A GREAT Car!
I had to get this car, it is so great, for the low cost, you get so freakin much! Me and my wife go out all the time cruisin just for fun.
best convert ever
its an awesome well rounded convertable with lots of pep
Just what I needed!
In rating this vehicle, I kept the scores relative to what it is: a well built, high performance, great looking, seat of the pants sports car. No frills, just pure excitement on the right roads. If you are looking for a touring sports car to drive on Interstate highways, I'd recommend a 350Z, G35 or Z4 over this car. I love it so far, and go through withdrawals on days that I don't drive it. BTW- it's definitely made to be driven hard on good roads, but have a good radar detector with you.
love this car!!!
bought this car 2 weeks ago & have had people pull me over to see it... beautiful exterior body style & fun to drive... interior has everything at your fingertips... start button is really neat!!
Fun to drive all the time!!!
Great for every day driving if you dont need the room .Theres nothing like leaving work after a long day and racing home. The quicker you get there the better, right? Fast is just half the fun, Letting the top down and looking cool is other!!!
AWESOME RIDE - $ WELL SPENT
This is the first sports car I have ever owned and I am very impressed. I own 4WD for inclement weather, but when the sun is out and the roads are dry, this is an awesome ride. The handling is amazing and the control you have in the cockpit is nothing but reassuring when you are navigating curves across the Virginia mountains or touring down a country road. It takes off like a rocket and stops on a dime. Makes driving anywhere just pure fun!
Great Fun!!
Car has the power, stopping ability, and fits like a glove.
never buy black
I said I would never buy black again. The last black rag top was a Sunbeam. Well I did, and I don't regret it one bit. In fact the car is black inside and out. Feel like a million in her and for a 72 year old, with cancer and all that entails, it is a miracle cure for me. Never had the top up and don't intend to. Wind is not a bother at 85, and at that speed, you can't hear the radio, so reception is not an issue.
honda s2000
More fun to drive than anything i had ever driven before. I was deciding between the 350Z and the s2000 and after test driving them both back to back, I chose the s2000. I love the way it looks compared to the 350Z too. There are too many cars that look similar to the 350Z with its "bubble" look.
Honda S2000 - Drop Top Heaven
The Honda S2000 is an amazing vehicle. It's styling is the best of any car on the road. People yell, "Nice car, mister!" all the time when I drive past. That never happened with any other car I've ever owned, and I'm 47 years old so I've owned a few. The interior is like the cockpit of an F-16 fighter. It's a great, snug fit, like a perfect set of driving gloves. Every control is within easy reach, and every instrument is easily read. The 6 speed shifter has short throws that scream precision! The car's reflexes are razor sharp, and there is no lag time when you want to accelerate. You do it NOW! Ripping off 8 grand shifts is such a blast! And all with the top down. What a car!
Honda S2000
What a beut comfortable to drive, hear and listen a must buy for any Honda fanatic plus a great car to pick up chicks in! I should know I married one!
Tremendous Second Vehicle
Bought the 2004 S2K as a second vehicle to add a fun alternate to the fully owned, practical SUV. Tried a few competitors, but the S2K came in ahead of them all. Performance, for the price, lays all the others aside (save possibly for the Nissan 350Z). The S2K has become the vehicle of choice, but for bulk errands and carting the (large) dog around. The car is not for family convenience, but driving pleasure. Even a short commute is enhanced by the fun and, frankly, driveability of the S2K. Clearance (into work garage ramp and driveway) were no problem (slow and at an angle) for city driving, but the fun comes in on the open highway. Watch your speed - it takes you past legal w/o thought.
4 years of Ownership....Nice to own
Have lived with my S2000 for 4 years and almost 28k miles. Sporty car, perfect transmission, nice fit and finish and Honda reliability (zero problems). This is a car for people that want a sports car. Not a sporty car. Not luxury sports car. The car is exactly what Honda intended and it is perfect at that job. Only regrets are living "up north" and having to park it 3 months a year. The summers are great, top down almost every drive home for 5 months.
Responsive at its finest
This car is very responsive to what you ask it to do. Great power for the 4 cylinder engine. I love the basic and non-accessory interior. The S2000 is everything I expected and more.
Reminds me of a MG A Twin Cam
I just purchased an S 2000, after considering a BMW Z4. This car is a hoot, and in my opinion a much better value as a true sports car than the BMW. When I was in college my roommate had a new MG A Twin Cam. Yes, I am over 65! Any way, the MG, as I recall was red lined over 7000 RPM, and it would screem at high rev's, just like the S2K. I recall that most of those MG's experienced a total engine failure after about 10,000 miles. Everything about the S2000 is great except the cover for the top (it's a chore to put on properly). I am also disappointed in the lack of oil pressure and electric gauges.
Absolutlely Awesome
I'm so glad i waited until the 2004 came out. The bigger engine is a big improvement and the 17 inch tires really make this car a winner. The handling is remarkable.
Fun to drive
This is the most fun car I have ever driven. Handling is great, you can feel the road, and it is just a beautiful design.
Update after 35,000 miles
First review was after owning for 5k miles. Current review is after two years. I can again confirm this was a smart purchase decision. Tire wear is always an issue with stock Bridgestone Potenza RE050's, but dry/wet grip is fanstastic. Also had the opportunity attent two open track days....well worth the money to get the experience. The S2000 handles fanstastically. Grin from ear to ear..can't wait to do it again. Criticisms: Rattling from convertible top latches; second gear grind early in life, seems to have gone away unless cold temps; passenger seatbelt rattles on door pannel/seat One last note: this car CAN be driven in the winter. Snow tires are a must and work great!
2004 Honda S2000
Just picked up one from the first shipments from Japan! The handling on this years model is very nice with the larger tires. The retuned suspension makes the car glued to the road. A great bang for the buck! Don't expect much from the stock radio though, the sound quality is terrible! The seats form nicely around you if you are of average build. I've found that its a bit difficult to get into the car if you are tall (6' or over). I'll add more to this review (if I can) once I break in the car!
2004S2000
Not a practical car for everyday driving. This is a car you buy for the "fun" factor not practicallity.
Hondas ROCK
This car has been one of my dream cars for as lond as i can rember. And know i own it there is nithin wrong with this car but it needs to be made in aoutomatic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this car is great.i have had this car for less than a year and i already know thatthis car is sporty and great to drive as well as comfortable. If i had to get another car i would get the honda s 2000.
