Collision avoidance system and Auto off terrible
Collision avoidance system provides false or redundant warnings 100 percent of the time. Your're driving down the road and the steering wheel starts shaking and warning lights come on because the car detects something in the opposite lane. The Auto off feature is annoying too. The car would be fine if I could select to turn off both of these features as a default setting. But there is no way to do so - so every time I start the car I have to go through a series of steps to turn these features off. 10 MONTH UPDATE -- Car is nice except for collision avoidance System and Auto OFF. These things really need to be driver selectable. They both drive me bananas and I will be asking Honda to fix them. 18 Month Update -- Same issues -- Honda not responding to requests to address them. Very disappointing.

Almost perfect
My wife and I are among the first buyers of the new 2019 Pilots and so far we are thrilled. It’s only been a few days so I can’t speak to any long term realizability issues. I did want to take the time to do this early review because I was floored by the fact that the 2019 Touring model no longer has the ability to set the height of the tailgate. We found this out after trying to set the height in our garage when we got it home. I’m pretty disappointed knowing that we have a full loaded model with all this revolutionary tech, and we can’t set the tailgate height. The worst part is that this was available on last years Touring. Even the guys in the dealership were shocked to see it was taken away. I love the car as a whole, but be advised you have to opt for the Elite to get this. I chose not to go with the Eite because it has captains chairs only and I wanted the bench seat for our baby’s safety. Hope this helps someone else out.

Infotainment System Broken
As other reviews have mentioned, the infotainment system has known errors that Honda will not fix. In the middle of a six hour drive, the infotainment system along with the display behind the steering wheel kept resetting itself. Among other things, we lost the GPS and our speed. When we finally got to our destination we turned off the car and when we turned it on the next day the infotainment system remained off. Even when it is working there is a horrible popping noise in the speaker so you can't enjoy listening to music. Also the TV in back is choppy and unusable. This is completely unacceptable in a new car. The worst part of this is that Honda knows about this problem and is doing nothing to fix it and continues to sell cars with this defect. This will be my first and last Honda.
Chirping Noise
We purchased the 2019 Pilot in May and after a few days noticed a “chirping” noise coming from the underside of the car. We took the car to the dealership and they could not find anything wrong but did hear the noise. As they could not determine the source of the noise, they submitted our problem to the engineers at Honda and said they have had other similar complaints. We were told to the “record” the sound and send it in, which we did. After 4 months the noise is still happening and we have now been told it may be another few months to figure this out and that we would no longer receive any communication about our complaint. We love the car, but the noise is extremely annoying - not something we expected with a brand new car. We have googled this subject and others have indicated the noise is coming from the timing belt, but Honda is not supporting this as a fix. Love everything about the car, but HATE the noise!
GREAT OUT OF THE GATE... THEN DISASTER!
I've been all over the map with vehicles (owned 90+). I have even spent over $90K on them in the past. However, I find the cheaper, mid level Japanese SUV's are the ticket. They are reliable and have the best resale. Paying more for a vehicle doesn't get you better quality, it just raises expectation levels that always end up in disappointment. I found the Pilot does everything a $40k vehicle should. Its smooth, quiet (for the most part) and relaxing to drive. My purchase deal fell apart on a 2019 Subaru Outback 3.6R, so I went across the street and drove the refreshed 2019 Pilot. I've had it for a while now and found only a couple of things that are disappointing: 1.) There is a bit of road noise on uneven pavement that transmits into the cabin. However, I am having Dynamat sound deadening installed in the doors and floor and that should help. Also changed tires to Michelin Defender LTX M/S and that improved noise/ride. 2.) Quality of Honda exterior plastics has gone downhill. They are easily scratched. My B and C pillars already have scratches on them and the black lower plastic body trim looks cheap. 3.) Window glass is of poor quality. My tint guy showed me little glass pimples he had to try and scrape off the front windows before he could apply the tint. It's obvious Honda is cost cutting more than ever now. 4.) Donut spare in a full size spare location? Even the owners manual says "if equipped with space saver tire"... I am swapping it out for a full size spare tire. In conclusion, I would say I am surprised how much I am enjoying this vehicle. I had a 2018 Land-Crusier earlier this year and that ended up in a Lemon Law suit that I won. Like I said, I am all over the map w/vehicles. The Honda Pilot (as with most Hondas) is a bit of a no-brainer purchase. I am glad to see they still are enjoyable to drive but only slightly disappointed in some of the material quality. However, that seems to be the case worldwide. I would definitely recommend this vehicle and purchase again. UPDATE: TRANNY LEAK FROM TRANSFER CASE. ENTIRE TRANSMISSION REPLACED @ 1,800K MILES. WENT INTO MEDIATION WITH HONDA FOR "BUY BACK". HONDA REFUSED AND DEALER BEGAN REPAIRS W/O MY APPROVAL. IT ALL WAS ALL VERY GREASEBALL ON HONDA CORPORATE & THE DEALER. NOW HAVE VEHICLE BACK. TRANSMISSION IS NOT AS SMOOTH PLUS CREAKING SOUND COMING FROM UNDERNEATH VEHICLE. RE-HIRED ATTORNEY AND CURRENTLY SEEKING OFFICIAL LEMON LAW CLAIM. CAR RENTAL AGENT SAID THEY HAVE BEEN GETTING A LOT OF PEOPLE FROM HONDA THESE DAYS.... WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU? WILL BE GOING BACK TO SUBARU. Update #2: Won lemon law suit against Honda, but vehicle totaled in head-on collision a few days prior. Walked away w/only a brusied pinkie finger from the air bag deployment. Ended up buying a Honda Ridgeline because I felt Pilot really saved my bacon in accident. Ridgeline is much more fun to drive and got it w/o the over sensitive Honda Sensing accident avoidance system. Handles better than the Pilot hands down.
