2009 through 2014 Odysseys have issues with piston rings failing and allowing oil into the cylinder. Honda will not help you out AT ALL if your exact vin number does not fall into group. Our 2014 Odyssey rings failed and Honda will not help us at all! We will never Ever! Buy another Honda!

'14 Elite w/112k miles

2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 6A)

Bought used in 2015 w/19k miles, Honda certified for 100k. Now at 112k miles. Family of 5...So far, just regular maintenance (oil changes/tire rotations), don't forget to maintenance the trans every 30k other wise it jutters (Hondas tech term for shutter or rough shifting). At 100k, Honda recommends timing belt/water pump change and spark plugs ($1,400 at local Honda dealer), local mechanic did it for $1100. Just put on 3rd set of tires (General RT43), so far so good. The overall road noise for a top tier vehicle is too loud in my opinion. Experienced some windshield noise after a replacement, had to glue down plastic moldings on the sides. Navigation/ audio controls could be easier. Strong engine and smooth ride, All in all good family vehicle.

After five years, I still love my Odyssey, but the paint is peeling off in big patches. A recall was done to repair the peeling on the roof. But it's peeling on the side, too, and they won't cover it under the recall. Everything else with the car is great. It has been 100% reliable. It is the most versatile vehicle I have ever owned. We have used it to haul kids, people, dogs, furniture etc, and a camper through the Rocky Mountains. My only complaint, and it is minor, it is that I have to put air in the tires frequently (I thought I had leaky tires but it turns out the van is a heavy vehicle). The Odyssey has been a great car in every respect. It drives really nicely - feels like a car. Love how easily the 3rd row of seats go flat. I can do it with one hand. Great road trip car.

We've had many Honda/Acura products over the years as a family going back to the 90's. When we shopped for this van 3 years ago, there were more minivan options available, but it came down to the Odyssey. I write this after trading our Odyssey on a '17 Sienna SE after three years of ownership. We enjoyed our Odyssey, but the 2018 Odyssey won't be out until summer and once we drove the Sienna SE, we knew it would be our next van. Our Odyssey was only out of service once, when it was brand new. The doors had been misaligned with the front fenders, causing them to rub. After that, the Odyssey was never out of service and only required routine maintenance. With twin boys, the power doors were worth any cost, the EXL trim provides everything I deem necessary in a car for my tastes but very little you don't need. The V6 had ample power and decent economy (you could get 29 mpg out of it, even with a load, on a flat, lazy two lane), but the transmission could be slow and confused at times. We live with a lot of hills and it was very noticeable. The dual screen system for the audio system and other functions was also slow and over-done. Designed as a stopgap measure after complaints about too many buttons, it showed. The slow transmission and the dual screen system were the only letdowns in what was a decent vehicle. We don't tow or camp, so I don't need an SUV or crossover. You want a vehicle you can put all your stuff in, people and take a long, comfortable drive? The minivan is your best bet and Honda builds a good one. 2020 update: After a 3 year Toyota Sienna SE lease, we returned to the Honda family with a 2020 EXL Odyssey. The Toyota wasn’t terrible, but I think Honda does a better job than Toyota. My wife did not care for the Toyota at all, strong words from someone who usually doesn’t care what she drives. EXL gains a lot of features over the ‘14 in this review, so it’s even better as a family conveyance.

This is my second Honda and it’s been issues from the beginning. I have 89k miles and this is all I’ve experienced- automatic doors intermittently won’t work, volume on radio will sometimes get stuck at the max setting, transmission computer broke, rear control arms broke, fan in motor broke. I don’t trust this car and I wouldn’t recommend this car AT ALL
