Purchased this van new January 2014 after looking at Chrysler and Dodge minivans as well as Chevy Traverse. Was the best price of the bunch and I sold myself on Honda reliability. We had several small issues with the car, such as the passenger seat switch draining the battery as well as the driver's side passenger door not shutting properly, but never broke down on us until recently. The battery died and would not take a jump. We currently have just over 80K miles on the car and just picked it up from the dealer after $3400 in service to replace the spool valve and alternator. It was also recommended to replace the timing belt and adjust the valves. Since we plan on keeping the car for a while, we did the recommended work and will hope for no major mechanical issues anytime soon. I had a 2003 Nissan Maxima that was built in Japan (VIN started with a "J") that I drove for 5 years and had zero issues with it. I currently have a 2012 Maxima, built in North America that I have had several problems with just as I have had with my American built Odyssey. I hate to say it, but Japanese built cars are more reliable. If I were to ever buy another car, I would buy a Japanese car built in Japan. At this point, I will probably only ever lease future vehicles as the cost over time will be the same or cheaper with less aggravation.

This is my third Honda Odyssey (don't ask me why). My 2014 EX-L has the same problem with brake rotors warping every 12k miles. The driver's seat still lacks comfort for all-day driving ( I transport medical patients and run abt. 300 miles per day). This new 8-speed transmission will probably cause a class-action lawsuit... it's not going to last. Quite often when slowing for a stop light or other reason, and go to resume speed, the transmission acts like it does not know which gear to go into, and then finally goes into one with a thud! Had the OEM Fog Lights added to the tune of $600... don't waste your money, they throw light the first 3 feet and then nothing! Worthless.

Bought this vehicle 6 months ago, to date it has exceeded our expectations. Every option the Touring Elite trim has is useful and comes in handy. My only gripe is I wish the built in vacuum would have had more power.

Research said the Honda was the minivan to get so I did. I considered the Toyota but with recent recalls across their line I never even test drove one. Simply got a good price (29500 EX) and that was it. There was a unsettling clop sound like a horse shoe in a parade from the suspension that proved to be from 40psi tires. I reduced to spec 33 and no more clop. Sound is now as one would expect from a car over bumps. We regularly get 30 mpg plus or minus 1/2 in extended cruise mode and 23 mixed with about 18 city. The only real complaint I have at this point is it took several window frosting to discover the defrost button. It carries 8 people, looks nice, tows and gets 30mpg. Enough said

We only have two kids and still chose this minivan after a TON of research. Overall, I'm very happy with the van and it was probably the best choice. That being said, I sometimes wish I would have gotten something way more exciting -- but that's not really where my life is at the moment. When I drive by myself, it's zero fun. When the van is full, it feels right for our family. Considering the other options out there including a plethora of SUVs, this is a solid choice and the best one out there. It's easy; sliding doors, plenty of room, well laid-out for the most part, mellow drive. If I had three kids, I don't think I'd look at anything else. It's a perfect beach/surfing vehicle.
