Used 2018 Honda CR-V Consumer Reviews
Junk. Do not buy the turbo!!
At 5000 miles, had to have the oil changed because it was black. Approximately 2000 miles later- 6 months after I bought the SUV new- it almost stalled on me 3 times on the highway. I checked the oil- it was already black and smelled like gasoline. I called to make an appointment- the dealership said they never heard of this problem. They could get it in a week later. I then smelled raw gas in the cab. I called them back and dropped the SUV off for them to look at it when they could. After 1 week- I called for an update. They were working on it for two days and said they cannot find anything wrong. But they did some computer update that came out 5 days ago for the stalling issue. He then told me that the black oil wasn't an issue- but they changed it anyway to go along with the update. They wanted to keep it one more night to test drive it - he assured me there was nothing wrong. This morning- he said they test drove it this morning- it still has the stalling issue- they will have to keep it until at least Monday when they can get a hold of HQ. The dealership is clearly giving me the run around! I have learned that Honda has had this gas getting into the oil issue with the 2017s as well. I am not that lucky to happen to buy the only bad engine at this top Denver dealership. Honda is supposed to have an appropriate update mid November. But as it stands- I have a junk engine and just threw $31,000 into the wind. But hey- I got to drive it for 6 months unknowingly putting my life at risk and other people's lives driving behind me.

Overall and on paper a very good car
I traded in my 2009 Audi A4 because I wanted as many modern safety features as possible while not paying a huge price. I'm generally pleased with this vehicle, but there are a few disappointment. The CR-V has radar located in the center of the front grille which is used for the automated braking feature and assitive cruise control. It does not work in heavy (or sometimes even moderate) precipitation. It also only prevents head-on collisions but not accidents if the other vehicle is not directly in front of your car. Visibility over the driver's right shoulder is minimal and does not help with safety. Also, the new Hondas lack a CD player which many owners find really troubling. Plus there's no way to plug in an MP3 or CD player externally.

Jack of all trades, Master of none
Before I get into details, let me say I have been a big fan of Acura/Honda over the years and the CRV is the fourth Honda product I've owned. But, it seems to me the company is becoming more bland with every passing year. The vehicles are lacking excitement overall. I unloaded my 2007 Sequoia in favor of modern efficiency offered by the CRV, and I think I was expecting more satisfaction in the ownership experience. The CRV is good at many things, but not really great at anything in particular (except gas mielage) once you get past the new car euphoria in the first few weeks. The positive: solid gas mileage and a ton of useful interior space for a small footprint, very comfortable seats, a lot of value in the EX trim. But, it's generally under-powered (a 2.0L turbo would be a nice option), somewhat noisy, and the CVT makes me feel like I'm sitting on a rubber band that sort of stretches but never quite does anything. Eco mode is dangerous if getting on the highway with any traffic at all due to dismal acceleration. The adaptive cruise control is quirky, and has unexpectedly and abruptly slowed the vehicle down on the highway causing me to be concerned about getting hit from the rear. The doors feel tinny, and the designers almost overdid the numbers of angles and curves that are incorporated into the dashboard design. I personally would prefer a traditional style speedometer and tachometer to the digital display. The phone integration is sort of a pain and very poor sound quality according to people on the other end of the call who can never clearly hear the person in the car. The radio and system electronics are just ok, but too many features are locked out when the car is actually moving. Could not get up my driveway in 6 inches of snow this past winter - not sure if it's the eco-friendly tires or lame AWD system. This vehicle is mostly used by our daughter who is a new driver. I appreciate the general safety features, excellent visibility, and not worried about her getting out of control with too much power. This vehicle will more than satisfy most people who are not really tuned into the driving experience and just want to get from point A to point B with minimal hassle. Sort of wish we got a pre-owned X3 or Q5. I'll stick to my VW GTI and let the kids use the CRV.

Underwhelming
With all the hype over the new CRV we were prepared to be impressed and likely buy one. We'd had a 2006 which our daughter now has, it was nice but the ride and noise were an issue. From what I'd read I expected the new one to be much smoother and quieter than they were a decade ago. Not so. Road noise is better but it can't be considered a quiet car. What was really disappointing was that Honda seems unable to fix the ride. Road imperfections are translated into a jittery unsettled ride that you feel in your neck before long. THe 1.5L turbo was a disappointment. While perhaps better the combination of modest power and the CVT just leaves it feeling....just adequate. WHat Honda did do well is the new interior is a home run, far nicer than some of the competitors. But they don't have the suspension engineering that Ford and others do, so once the car begins to move you realize it is still a bit crude. Honda needs to hire some German suspension engineers....

quick handling and nice roomy feel
My former vehicle was a Honda Odyssey and was a great vehicle, but it was time to change , after ten years of good service. My only complaint about my purchase is the noise. I think that I may be a bit more sensitive to it after driving a much larger and heavier car for so many years. I love the handling of the CRV and I truly no longer need a larger vehicle with three row seating. In some ways it feels like a sports car with great visibility and excellent technology installed. I still feel like I made a good decision, I only wish the car was little quieter. This is still a good car. I still am not used to the noise and wish they'd made it a tad quieter, considering the price tag on the car. It still drives and handles well. In fact, the handling was good enough to keep me from being killed in a head-on crash vs. an F250 truck. I was able to maneuver out of it's way enough to only be clipped.
