Used 2018 Honda CR-V Consumer Reviews
2018 LX AWD is near perfect
Yes we bought the base LX with the 2.4 engine and don't weep about not getting the turbo. My thought is this, the 2.4 has been around decades and steadily Hondaized (up dated and improved) and the turbo? Hmmm. Plenty of pep, there is only a tenth of a second between the two engines 0-60, A bit noisy on some road surfaces probably having to do with "ECO Bridgestone" tires and they will likely wear in a bit quieter. First tank was 31 mpg. Quality is high and fit and finish is obviously excellent. Lots of space. I don't miss all the "add on tecky" stuff in the (much) higher priced model. The EX is almost 3K above the LX. As a genuine old timer I do the speed limit and am conservative and careful and it pays off. Found that if you have it set on the ECO mode here in Oklahoma you will find the air conditioning might be a bit weak. Switch off ECO and the cooling improves! Overall this is a great car and I recommend this model over the higher priced ones with all their gizmos. Out the door at 25200 an LX with awd. By the way the CVT is unintrusive and power is right there when needed. Drive one, you'll like it. Best part is the secure stance on the road, it just feels so buckled down and well planted. A great driving experience. Update: It is three years old and only has 11k miles because it is driven locally most of the time. Around town locally 24-25 mpg. On the highway touching 30mpg. No mechanical problems at all. Not the greatest radio in the LX's but other than that no complaint. Not a slouch getting on interstates. A bit noisy inside as it doesn't get the insulation the higher priced ones get. But hey, my hearing is bad anyway at 80 yrs. Great car highly recommend. These days you don't get the 2.5 engine anymore and must take the little turbo four--to bad. Now 5 years old, just 20k miles. Local driving mpg 27-28. Highway 31-33 at the speed limit legal. Good power, great when the VTEC kicks in. Sadly you can't get this 2.4 engine in the CRV anymore, it's great. No mechanical problems of any kind. Did have to replace the battery. Did it myself. Just changed engine air filter myself and will change cabin air filter soon myself. Great car very reliable. New tires in about 10k..

Overall excellent car
We bought a house with a steep driveway. Our Accord struggled to get to the top when it was snow covered. The CRV with AWD climbs right up no problem. This is our third CRV. Only 1000 miles so far, but pleased at this point. CVT works well, and the interior is comfortable and quiet. The radio and ac controls are better than the 17 Accord we traded in, but still not quite to our liking. Would love to show a Honda engineer what we don’t like about it. Overall a very nice car. UPDATE: 7500 miles...no problems to report...still pleased. UPDATE: 13,000 miles...a minor recall for emissions issue needs completed next oil change. Walk away locking sometimes not reliable; you have to make sure it actually works. Going to complain about it next oil change. UPDATE...not pleased with factory tires on Ohio snow...great traction from a stop...not good when stopping on snowy road. Will be upgrading to a M&S rated tire. UPDATE: Replaced OEM tires with Michelin Cross Climate. Much improved snow and ice traction. Averaging 30-32 mpg. Walk away locking and Honda Sensing sometimes do odd things. Would disable the feature that rolls down all the windows and opens sunroof if I could. It’s possible to inadvertently do this. Would be bad if this happened in rain, or parking lot. Still overall great car. UPDATE:1/16/2020 Automatic braking sometimes engages for no reason. Dealer of course can find no problem. Will continue pursuing this issue. UPDATE: 7/5/2022 - 43k miles Still satisfied overall. Automatic braking is under investigation by NHTSA, so I’m not the only person who has issues with it. Shadows will cause unintended braking. Pretty dissatisfied with the dealership service department. They apparently think most customers are ignorant. I complained after a recent oil change that the tires were overinflated, according to the tire placard. The young lady’s response was “We do that because they will ‘settle down’ on the way home.” Ridiculous. Tire pressure increases as you drive the car. Also recommended turning the rotors, but not replacing the brake pads with 40k miles on them. An expensive service that would soon be repeated when the pads wear out. UPDATE …January 2023. Still issues with automatic braking activating for no reason. Driving under a bridge, the shadows set it off. hopefully NHTSA investigation will result in a recall. Otherwise, the car has been trouble free.

watch out if you live in a cold climate !!
numerous complaints that the interior temperature never heats up. Honda wont admit to the problem but there are many unhappy owners that can't warm up or get enough heat to even defrost a window. Very unsafe for that. Heat drops in cold climates as soon as the engine RPM drops so watch out for frozen bodies at railroad crossings. Great car if you are in the tropics. sold it off a year after i got it. Between no heat and oil migration into gas it wasnt worth keeping. Too bad it was one of the nicest riding cars I ever owner.

Severe Oil Dilution - premature engine wear
We have invested a lot into our brand new Touring, including many accessories, hoping to keep this car for a long time so even in 10 years our now growing up daughter would enjoy it as her first car. Our trust in Honda reliability was crushed when I found our engine oil severely overfilled, black, thin as water and smelling like gasoline after only 4200 miles since brand new. Thorough research shows these new engines have a serious problem of oil dilution by gasoline. This has been already reported by masses, and is the reason Honda stopped sales of CRV in China. To our surprise, Honda acknowledges the problem but has not released any resolution aside for free oil changes. And local dealerships exercise their common deniability policy as much as they can. Our engine has already incurred premature wear and I will fight to get our money back under lemon law because premature engine failures and high maintenance is not what we signed up for when buying a Honda. I will most likely never trust Honda again. Two more cons in this car: rain sensing wiper feature is terrible - not reliable and annoyingly inaccurate. And the design of interior on driver side is made where side of my knees are always hitting hard plastic sharp edges causing constant knee pain while driving.

Test drive of 2018 CRV a deal breaker
After a lot of research, I decided to trade in my 2013 CRV EX for a new 2018 model. Went to Honda dealer with old title, finances set and was ready to buy. All I had left to do was take a test drive and make the deal. What a disappointment! There are many great things about the 2018, but after a few minutes behind the wheel I can't understand all the terrific reviews. The biggest problems for me are that, unlike my 2013, this vehicle has annoying engine noise when accelerating and a delay and surge in the transmission. My 2013 is quiet and smooth. I know that a turbo and CVT are a different technology and to some these characteristics may not matter, but to me it's a step backward. Another problem is that in order to benefit from the lane departure feature, you have to be going above 45 mph. 90% of my driving is below 45 mph, so it is useless for suburban or country road driving. I read that the RAV4 operates at 32 mph, which makes more sense. The screen on my 2013 is set back into the dash shielded from glare. The new model has the screen exposed, making it harder to see in daytime. The test car had been driven 75 miles, and the display said it was getting just 23 mpg which made me suspicious of its fuel economy. Also, the color that I wanted (molten lava red) only comes with white seats which are impractical and are too bright and stark for a car interior. My wife loves the 2013 central console for holding her handbag, but the 2018 console is two level, closes in the area, and is not easy to use for holding a handbag. The Honda sales manager heard my reservations and offered a great deal, but I left appreciating my 2013 all the more.
