2018 Honda CR-V EX-L 4dr SUV (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

I borrowed Dad’s recently purchased Honda CRV EX-L 2018 to drive from AZ to MO. The vehicle drove great, no tuning knob on the radio is disappointing, front seat was not that comfortable after 10hrs.of driving, gas economy was awesome. I got 40 MPG the 1st day, 2nd day, fought the wind all day so the mileage was not near as good, still in the 30’s. The SUV was fully packed inside. We ran thru a muddy mess on the road & the mud is thrown up inside door panels. Going through the car wash, the soap doesn’t get the mud off & the soap/water pooled in the rubber seals around the inside of door. I reached out to American Honda & they sent me to a dealership that was of no help at all. I like the safety features; auto braking, various camera views for backing out, lane departure, lane assist, blind spot monitoring, etc.My dad’s CRV is 16 months old had the battery go totally dead & we had to replace it. We live 100 miles from the nearest Honda dealer so did not buy the replacement battery from Honda as required a tow/jump to get to a nearby repair shop. Very disappointing- hoping my battery does not experience the same issue when it is a few months older. Searching online reflects this has been a common problem- short battery life on Honda CRV’s. The battery will totally die if the vehicle takes only short trips due to living in a small town, etc. or if the car sits for 3 weeks or so. It is recommended that you drive an hour a wk. to maintain the battery to start the vehicle. Honda has a 3 year warranty that covers the battery but a new battery will do the same thing. Apparently need hr. drive for alternator to effectively charge battery. Appears Toyota RAV 4 has same issue. Wish I knew this at purchase of my new CR-V in 2018. This really needs to be addressed & folks need to at a minimum know this information to avoid being stranded in the middle of nowhere. I got a jump start from Honda on a car at 8,000 miles, vehicle 18 months old, and drove it for 30 minutes and next day, dead battery again!

Great CUV, Tech not perfect but most is great.

There are a number of reviews raving about this car: spacious, reliable, and excellent value. Like others, the CR-V has never been in my shopping list until this year. The strongest point for us is the value with the various active safety features being standard above the base model. Well I wanted a safe car for my kids to drive rather than my old 2002 MB, these young kids just don’t seem to like to drive; they lack experience or navigation capabilities without the phone’s GPS. So I got a great end of year deal on EX-L, really needed only the EX. The interior is very nice. I’ve been driving it while the kids are away at college instead of my old MB. This car drives nice although it does not have the quality finish of the luxury car - (inside lower plastic panels seems cheap, brake pedal and shifter has a clunking sound when using it,) but what do you expect for tens of thousands dollars cheaper. But for its class, I really enjoy this car. Now to provide some slight disappointments: the gas mileage was slight lower than expected for highway, it’s hard to get more than 29 mpg, mixed is always high 27. (The weather is still cold, maybe it will get better, but Edmunds long term review supports this comment.) Worse, when I drive slightly past the low fuel light, the tank is a small 11 gallon, so I fill the tank more often than I like. My wife’s diesel X3 easily gets about 37 mpg when I get 28 for the same mix driving conditions. But in the end, the mileage is not bad. Now for the tech, I often have USB problems with Apple Play. (Edmunds long term stated a problem once with Android Play.) I have to unplug the USB and plug it back to work. (My friend’s 2018 Camry USB doesn’t work at all, while my wife’s X3 USB randomly drops out and the car has to be turned off to get working again. So I seen a number of USB issues on different cars with different phone and cables.) The full speed dynamic cruise control really works great, it can avoid collisions when rubber necking or if you momentarily get distracted. It would stop the car completely and can resume from standstill. I most hit the brake when someone cuts into my lane very close to me. The keep in lane, not to be confused with lane departure, works nice in mostly straight roads. The two makes long trips nice and safe. The big disappointment is the speed that the lane departure and keep in lane works, above 45 mph. This is very high, this eliminates most roads except highways. Most cars including Toyota works at lower speeds, Toyota is above 32 mph. So, it won’t protect kids or folks being out too late and dozing off on the country roads. According to the manual, if you cross over a solid line and it was not able to get you back in lane, it will hit the brakes, cool. The rear side cross traffic and blind spot works great. I have not experience the front collision avoidance thankfully, but can say the hit the brake light comes on prematurely even when I’m decelerating. This is in contrast to Toyota that almost never alerts you. I don’t find the alert distracting, especially when I want this for my kids. In conclusion, I really like this car, to the point where I wonder if it’s better to get two new cars like this or keep a luxury car for 16 years? This car has more standard tech than my wife car for so much more money. The details are slightly lacking, but once you are sitting inside and driving, you almost forget you are driving a, god forgive, CR-V.

CRV that cried wolf

I've put 200 miles on this vehicle and hate it. It beeps at me all the time and usually I have no idea why. Sensing system goes into error. Dash tells me to BRAKE and more BEEPING when there is nobody near me on the freeway. Fancy iPad mounted to the dash blows. The vehicle is always locked when I think it's unlocked and unlocked when I think it's locked. The locks are downright infuriating. The fab weighs about 10 pounds in your pocket. Engine is loud and s l o w. Cab is horribly loud in the rain. Thought I needed to bond with her and spent the last two days dolling her up. It made me hate the vehicle even more. It's a detailing nightmare with so many water retaining nooks and crannies. Water gets inside the tail lights. Chrome trim pieces in the headlights grab my wash mit because they are poking out at the ends. Oh, and you have to leave your fab well away from the car when washing otherwise it keeps locking the doors and beeping every time the water hits the door handles. I hate this vehicle! Update 03-04-2018: 2 months ownership, 842 miles driven on it, no regrets about anything my previous review said. My CRV has officially been named Spawn of Satan (SOS). I especially enjoyed the 4-week insect infestation on the EXTERIOR of the vehicle. 10s of thousands of the smallest jumping insects I have ever seen. Corporate Honda did not care; dealer had no clue what to do. Best guess is that it was sold to me with a nest in it somewhere. Every "safety" feature that can be disabled, except for blind spot warning, has been turned off because they flat out don't work. Unfortunately, the Honda Sensing system cannot be disabled. It's not ready for market. Count on plenty of temper tantrums from the system in anything less than perfect road conditions or weather. A few adds to my list of dislikes...The left 2-3 inches of the front windshield becomes unusable in the rain. You cannot stuff the center storage console with stuff AND expect to use the power/USB ports. There are no lights on the joysticks. When using turn signals you can EASILY accidentally turn on high beams. If you own it, you know these things. Regardless of an obscene amount of gasketing on this vehicle, there is still a moisture issue as evidenced by inside foggy windows every time the car is washed or in rain. This vehicle very surprisingly topped my most despised vehicle ever owned list in about a week. It took out long standing champ '89 Chevy Beretta which GM bought back from me under lemon law. Not in a million years would I expect a Honda to do that! I want to be clear that this vehicle has had NO mechanical problems that have left me stranded. It's the rest of it that is absolutely sub-par. This CRV replaces a 10-year old similar size and trim level SUV with an American badge. The bar to beat didn't seem very high, but I guess it was.

2018 Honda CR-V Touring 4dr SUV (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

We have owned five CRVS and four other Hondas. My first CRV was a 1997. It had over 200,000 miles when traded to dealer, The CRV has continued to be refined through the years. The 2018 Touring is an outstanding car. It took me about a week to learn how to adapt to new technology; now I wonder how I lived without it. Car rides well; it has great storage, comfortable seats, and great mileage. I thought about buying a more expensive car but did not for the CRV Touring is a quality vehicle. I have driven the car 6500 miles and have had no problems.
