I'm sticking with Honda

I love this car! It goes in the snow quite well and gets great mileage. I've had this car for seven years. Problems have problems with the trim (inside/outside) heat shield keeps falling off-power windows seem to be questionable and manifold was found to have a crack in it within one week of the 80,000/8 year and was fixed for free by Superior Honda of Uniontown. The service from the dealership has been excellent. The A/C seems a little sluggish to me but all in all I expect to have this car for at least another 8 years so long as the snow and salt don't do it in first.

Could have been better

Honda quality has been negated by the poor workmanship at the Ohio plant. While the car runs well, there are a few visible spotty workmanship evident by unflushed fenders/headlight. One biggest annoying thing: getting in and out of the car is the most uncomfortable experience in using the car: the car is way too low!!!

Not so good

I have my Civil for almost 2 years, haven't driven it much until recently I starting working outside of the city. Had a small accident. The car I hit had no damage, but my civil was awful. It was a small hit in the front but I'm estimate to pay 3 grand to get the hood and the radiator frame to replace. And now that I'm on the highway all the time, the car does not pick up fast enough. It's too slow for my opinion. Overall, the car is reliable and performs well for what it's worth, but the build quality is awful. A slight hit, and you'll see major damage on your car. I would not buy this car again or recommend anyone to buy a civil.

I bought this car new in December 1999. This was the best car buying decision ever... still going strong after 6 and 1/2 years and 129200 miles.

I bought this car in 2000 for my wife to be. Excellent gas mileage, good looks, nice handling. Overall, I wish I had bought the EX version. The fit and finish on this was not as good as my Accord. A little slow on the get-go unless you rev the engine super high. No trunk opener on the keyless entry.

Impressive

Bought it as a new car in 2000 (first Honda car), with the idea to keep it for about 5 years. After 8 1/2 yrs and 100K I still cannot convince myself to give it away. As other people have mentioned, it only needs gas besides scheduled maintenance. I did not have to change as much as a light bulb outside maintenance. Great mileage 30-32 in suburban traffic, 36 on the hwy. Drove it 2500 miles across US during moving in only 3 days: no problem. Incredibly stable and agile considering it's a small car with 106 hp. Next one will be a Honda for sure ...

The Little Civic that Could

I got this car after my 16th birthday. It's a manual because all of our cars are manual. I told my parents that I really wanted to get a civic or an accord and they agreed. I've put maybe 3,000 miles on it so far. The only thing that I had to replace was the clutch assembly because the previous owner burned it up. I love this car. The next car I get will definitely be a new civic. My family has bought new accords every 4 years since 1998. It's amazing how good these cars are! It has no blind spots and it's easy to zip around people. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I don't use A/C so it's not really a problem for me.

warranty warning

Just a warning to new car buyers about the "quality" of a Honda. Flaws in workmanship and an uncharacteristic brush off by American Honda Customer service have left me with no recourse but to go to small claims court with Honda. Im still in shock at the response from Honda when told that water leaks caused by a lack of "caulk-like" adhesive around the fender welds would not be covered under warranty. If your car leaks water, check the fender welds first ???? Dont waste your time on windshield replacements. That is not what Honda deems logical. Above all, pay the dealer to do " a few oil changes" to establish the required GOODWILL necessary for them to honor the warrenty.

Still going Strong

I felt the need to leave a review again about this amazing never die car. I am the original owner of my 2000 civi Si which is has 89,000 miles now but it is so awesome that I get great gas mileage and can still run with other cars, the only thing i have done is lower it and a little mods here and there but other than that still runs beautiful and oh yeah no probs with it either. I change the oil every 3,000 and tune-up every 30,000 and it keeps going and going and going. If you are looking at this car to buy used and u pass it up u r a fool. going on 6 years now of owning it, don't plan on selling it. if I ever do, it will be real hard! Bring the new Si. Still won't stand a chance!

The Y2K Civic EX sedan

It's been very reliable. I've had no trouble whatsoever, even with the harsh winter we had. Workmanship is above standard. Peppy 1.6 liter engine and very gas efficient, which is a plus considering gas is averaging $2.20 a gal. around my area. This car rides tight and rattle-free, great for a small car. Make sure you get a Civic that's Honda certified, this way you won't wind up with a car that's been "upgraded" with aftermarket add- ons by some mechanic wanna-be.
