Si review
the car was a great buy new. it has held almost all of its value over the last 3 years. 1.6l engine lacks torque, but that is to be expected. fast enough to get the job done, but will not really get you in trouble. understeers in the wet.
Awesome Car
Great car. Best car I have ever owned. When this one dies I will for sure buy a new honda
rattle & clunk
Been shopping for a replacement, since I bought it. 3 months after purchase, driver side window starts making noise. Replaced. 2 months later, samething. Repaired. 4 months later the passenger window joined in the fun, you get the picture. I now drive with the windows all the way up or all the way down so I don't feel my blood boil. Clunks whenever the windows are only part way open. Unreliable acceleration, seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes it will take off like a bullet most often it struggles to shift into gear and take off. Our '96 nissan sentra (major accident and 180,000 miles) has more pick up then civic ever had.
Expensive for its class, still a value
Excellent ride for a car this size, quite supple yet controlled. Power steering a bit overboosted. Engine doesn't have much grunt down low but gets with the program over 3000 rpm. Engine is also quite smooth and car gets excellent gas mileage. No mechanical difficulties to date, though I do hear a noise when shiftin when cold (I'm going to get this checked out). Other cars in this class may be cheaper, but this one is well-executed and retains value so it's still a great choice.
Great car, just not that big
I bought this car as an upgrade from my 1996 hatch and it was a definite change. There is definitely more power and throwing in power steering doesn't hurt the situation. The power in the car won't put you pack in your seat (maybe at the higher end of first gear), but it's a nice change from the paltry 106 hp of the lower end models. The car has done nothing but run great for me. The only problems I've had are that the alignment of my driver's side window motor turned bad, but I fix all things myself and it was quite easy. The other problem was that the exhaust pipe rusted through, which was also a problem on my other Honda. Again, not much of a problem and an easy fix.
