Pleasantly surprised with gas mileage

2006 Honda Accord Hybrid 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl gas/electric hybrid 5A)

This car replaced a '96 Sable LS and is an upgrade in every way. The car has about 1000 miles on it of which 600 are from one long trip which averaged 35.4 mpg. I love the acceleration and handling of the car and the seamlessness with which the various fuel saving features work. Auto-Stop and restart is flawless, VCM kicking the car into 3-cylinder mode is more obvious. Fuel economy is good although it is highly dependent on how the car is driven. I can easily get 36-37 mpg in moderate highway traffic and averaged 40 mpg on a 100 mile leg of a long trip. MPG on the short trip (5 mi) my wife takes to work is in the low 20's, which is to be expected since the engine barely has time to warm up.

Best Features

I love the layout and lighting of the dash and instrument cluster. The leather seats are comfortable and very supportive. Fit and finish is typical Honda quality. Everybody who has ridden in it so far has commented on how quiet the ride is; chalk that up to the car's ANC system?

Worst Features

These things should be standard: auto doors lock, auto day/night mirror (it's an expensive dealer installed option), auto-on headlights, needs an instantaneous mpg readout instead of or combined with the "ECO" light. No trunk pass-thru is a negative but this is necessary for the IMA battery.
