Owned for 8 years.
I have owned my Terrain for almost 8 years. Purchased it with only 18 miles on the dash. I must admit I previously drove a 6 cylinder so of course I would notice a difference with this 4 cylinder. So please make sure you second guess pulling out on the highway or in front of anyone that is already driving at a good speed because you won’t be able to quickly accelerate. My first problem with my vehicle is the first winter in Germany where my car stalled several times. This definitely terrified me. I thought maybe it was because of the weather. Eventually it stopped. It has not done it again in almost 7 years. Also several years ago the emissions light came on. I read the manual and tighten the gas cap and the next day the light went off. Today I have about 104,000 plus miles and have not had any major mechanical problems with it; however, my engine light is on. I adjusted the gas cap. That did not work. Then I replaced the gas cap; light still on. Tomorrow I will take it and get a diagnostic test done. I hope it’s nothing major. I really have enjoyed my Terrain and I have loved traveling in it with my family. Disclaimer: I do not live in a big city and I can go to church, the grocery store plus all the main stores and work all within 10 miles of each other. If the repairs are costly I am going to purchase either a used 2013 Lexus ES350 or a 2018/2019 Honda. Also this vehicle is very roomy. My son is 6’7” and can drive and or sit in the back with enough leg room. Hope this review was helpful.

First SUV
This is my first try at an SUV. My last car was an Accord, and I have to say I am thrilled I made the jump. I avoided SUVs in the past because of the ride, handling, and noise, but the last 8 months with my Terrain have proved me wrong. I love riding up high, no more falling into or climbing out of the seat. The ride is far more comfortable than my Accord was, the interior has far less road noise, and power from the V6 is much better than my 4 cylinder Accord was (no surprise there!) The cargo versatility is amazing, I love the sound system and the Terrain feels very well put together. I am very happy after 8 months and have had no issues and feel very confident I made the right choice.

Big mistake
Major transmission issues. The car died at 7,000 miles; the transmission had to be replaced. Even with a new transmission Im still having issues with the car shifting gears, it stutters frequently. A new problem since the transmission replacement is that when the low gears shift, it appears that something is rubbing and its loud. Since its a new model, the techs at the dealership cannot diagnose the problem. I regret buying this car and would not recommend to anyone
Should be named “GMC POS
Fiancé bought the vehicle from a dealer preowned. Whoever the original owner was, was smart to dump. Fiancé was smitten with the looks and I have to admit, the Terrain LOOKS nice. Otherwise it’s a complete POS. The 2.4L I-4 engine is complete JUNK! Fiance’s Vehicle has burned oil since day one. Catalytic converter hides the smoke by burning off the oil that’s passing by the piston rings. So you don’t KNOW it’s burning oil unless you check the dip stick! If you don’t check it, you can tell when the valves start rattling. The oil light will not come on until the engine has completely burned off ALL the oil. By then, the damage is done. The fact that GM knows that the 2.4 I-4 was built with defective/inadequate piston rings, yet will not issue a recall or any type of fix is just another reason to stay away from GM. Especially ANY vehicle with this engine under the hood. You can google this vehicle and this engine and see tons of articles on this problem. There’s more than enough mentions of it on this page alone! Today my fiancé’s Terrain is in the shop having the engine REPLACED at our expense. We won’t EVER buy another GMC 4 cylinder again. I won’t ever by another GMC PERIOD. The engine, even when running “properly” is totally lacking in enough power for the size and body weight of the Terrain. The Terrains electronics are crap too. Too many electrical issues to name here. In closing, if you’re looking at a Terrain, RUN AWAY! They’re complete GARBAGE! A total POS!

Can't wait to sell
Problems 1.poor gas mileage. After letter to GMC dealer response. Drive slower 2.Wipers bounced across windshield. dealer replaced but said good you brought in now as in a few days (90) dealer wouldn't replace. 3.air conditioner freezes up twice. Dealer can't find problem. 4. Transmission shifts vary poorly 5.Wheels wouldn't hold tire pressure. Dealer over-inflated to hold pressure. After 2 years tires how hold pressure. Worst car I ever purchased and can't wait to trade.
