Would buy one again!
We purchased the Escape new. It was our first Ford and we have had a terrific experience. For me, it rides a little rough but hey! it's a SUV. We replaced the tires at 35,000; that seemed a little low for me. We have replaced the master cylinder, cruise control switch, ball joints, along with normal maintenance. It seems like normal stuff. We were rear-ended at 90,000 miles and, after $5000 in repairs it looked terrific again. No plans to replace. Definitely recommend the V6. great pick up.
Great Vehicle
if you want an SUV with performance and a great ride...this is your ride. If you want an SUV that is pretty good on gass....then this your ride. I would also like to say that it is pretty good in the snow too.

ESCAPE
FUN TO DRIVE, A LITTLE WIND NOISE, GOOD LOOKS,
Bought used, but still great.
Bought used with 116K miles. Vehicle is now seven years old now and looks and drives great. The interior is still in perfect condition. Leather seats are barely worn. Went up from sedan to this due to having a child. Great room and car seats are a breeze now.
2 Escapes - 2001, and now 2002
This is our 2nd Escape - we had a 2001 2WD 6cyl XLT, and now have a 2002 4WD with leather, moonroof, all the options. Not sure if they made significant improvements from 2001 to 2002, or if it's the 2WD to 4WD but this newer one is much tighter, more solid, more enjoyable. Seems quieter too. This has been a great vehicle for a multitude of purposes, from family vacations to business appointments to hauling.
