Sporty & Fun, Can't Wait for the Hybrid
I had an absolute blast with this new mini-SUV. Power, cornering, roominess and it looks different on the road. My main problem with this vehical is the stiff unforgiving seats. You can't sit in them for more than about 100 miles before you have to get out and rest for an extended period. My rear was really hurting. It also took expressway pavement joints harshly, too much so for my liking. I can't wait for the hybrid fuel Escape to come out in late 2003.
Would buy one again!
We purchased the Escape new. It was our first Ford and we have had a terrific experience. For me, it rides a little rough but hey! it's a SUV. We replaced the tires at 35,000; that seemed a little low for me. We have replaced the master cylinder, cruise control switch, ball joints, along with normal maintenance. It seems like normal stuff. We were rear-ended at 90,000 miles and, after $5000 in repairs it looked terrific again. No plans to replace. Definitely recommend the V6. great pick up.

Great Little SUV
Have owned my XLT 4X4 for almost 1.5 years now and have been very impressed. No problems so far and I have 50,000kms. Have used it for some off roading and although it doesn't have a low range it still performed admirably. Would recomend to anyone!
Escape - Not a Ford
Things to consider berfore buying: 1.Re-sale - Carmax offered me $18,000 for a 2002 XLT 10,000 miles with every available option (list new was $26,000). Resale is affected by recent poor crash test results in which Hyundai Santa Fe fared better. 2.Mini-spare tire on an SUV is stupid. 3.Drum brakes on rear (it's not 4 wheel disc brakes) so braking is not one of its strengths. CR-V and Santa Fe have 4 wheel disc brakes and real spare tires. 4.Overall cheapness of the Escape. 5.Uncomfortable seats. 6.Thin paint Ford has become noted for. Obviously cost-engineered to the max by Ford. Cheap! Cheap! Cheap!
Offroad-tastic
quite simply fantastic piece of machinery.
