2011 Dodge Caliber Heat

I have owned this car for about 3 years and it has not been a problem (so far). I had expected more mileage from the car being as small as it is-it is a daily commuter and 20 minutes one way and I am about 6' tall and slightly cramped while driving. If you want great reduction in road noise this car requires the best made tires in order to get it, I installed Michelin Defenders and it made the noise acceptable level. Rear hatch has modest areas for groceries but you will need to get creative in the placement of the boxes in order to do a full days shopping with it if you leave the rear seats up while using them. I like the 120volt outlet the car offers in the middle console for utility purposes. I put 225mm Michelin width tires all around the car and it handles like it is on rails and rain and snow are much better now as opposed to the slightly skinnier tires they recommend. Albeit the mileage took a hit some but that is worth the trade to me. Overall, I think the mileage is somewhat unacceptable for the size and weight of this car. That is my biggest complaint about this vehicle. Other than that I have no problems-so far. The mileage of the car is affected by the heat of the outdoors-it gets much better mileage when its cold. UPDATE 3 years from review above: * I average 29mpg on summer blend gas with the tire pressure running 34psi around all tires. I notice on winter blend the gas mileage go back to 26.5->27i'sh for some reason. I also had a temporary issue with the throttle body indicator light coming on the instrument panel and running rough after changing the battery. This was resolved after I removed the battery again (terminals) and let the capacitors empty out and the EPROM reset while pressing the gas peddle to the floor all the way up and down to teach the computer the limits of the throttle. This solved the rough idle issue and made the warning light go out...after reconnecting the battery. Plan on keeping the car after I realized how sensitive it is with mid to low tire pressure. Keep about 35psi in the tires and it will average almost 30 if you keep the RPM below 3500. *Update 2018: the car has been going without a problem (so far) and nothing to note at 68976 miles. Considering getting a Dodge Avenger due to having the same 2.0 liter motor which has proven to be dependable. The car has the same motor as 2003 Dodge Neon I had and it never gave me a problem either. I would like to mention that the 2011 Caliber runs MUCH better after I installed new NKG spark plugs (new type) with fancy tips on them. The Caliber has the same motor as the dependable Dodge Neon -A 2.0L steel timing chain equip motor (not belt) which makes this car much more dependable.

We do a lot of hunting, fishing and outdoor activities and were looking for a vehicle that could get our gear too and from the woods and then take me too and from work during the week, while still getting decent gas mileage. The Caliber fit the bill!!! It averages around 24mpg and has hauled hunting gear to Utah, Colorado and Missouri without any issue. It handles well, fits my 6' frame and is still comfy for my 5'1" wife. The transmission and gearing work great in the snow and we've been more than happy with it after 52k miles, and look forward to another 100k! At 120k and the Caliber is still kicking and doing a great job. I'd still recommend it for any outdoormen, looking for a do-it-all vehicle.

There is a problem that causes these to shut off while you are driving on the hwy., my niece had the same problem, something about a cooling sensor keeping the transmission from overheating. And this should have been a recall issue.

I very much enjoyed this car for the space- I fit some odd things in this car. It's not a car for going fast and mpg is okay- it's not a really a gas saver compared to my previous car (Chevy Cobalt) but it's not ridiculous. The only reoccurring issue I had with this car was the sway bar kept coming loose it sounds really bad if you don't know what it is- and it makes the ride a little bumpy. Other than that it was really reliable. It sits up high enough that you don't really have to duck down to get in. I had a lot of spontaneous trips and would sleep in my car somtimes there's enough space to sleep two people comfortably as long as you have some pads to lay on and I've fit three small people.

I just love my Caliber! I purchased it at Fifve Star Dodge in Macon, GA. After a lot of research, I decided on this model and have not been disappointed. Very roomy interior, great sound system, quiet and comfortable ride, and cute exterior design. I wanted the impossible and found it in this car. It is almost a wagon, almost an SUV and almost a sports car! Love it!

I bought this car with 63 miles on it in December 2011. I love the orange color, how it looks like a transformer, and how the dash is set up. For what it is it is a great little car. I live in Colorado and have taken my little Caliber up Jeep trails without issue, so long as I have the clearance I have had no trouble. The manual transmission is really nice and makes it fun to drive. I love driving my car and it does decent in the snow. I have the most basic model you can get and it is comfortable on long trips. This is a fun little car but it is that, a little car. It is not a high performance sports car but it is fun to drive and has been totally reliable. Edmunds asked me to update this. I have had my car since I drove her out of the showroom in 2011. It's now Feb. 2016 and I have only ever done routine maintenance on this car. I got almost 64,000 miles on the original spark plugs. I have driven her from Colorado to New England and all over New England. She handles snow, crappy roads (oh boy are the roads in RI crappy), and everything else like a pro. I love this car still. My only complaint is that the dash is large enough that she isn't comfortable for my very tall (6' 3") boyfriend. The gas mileage could be a little better for the size but I'd take her heft in the snow over gas mileage any day. Asked again to update, I traded her for a Nissan Xterra because I needed an off road capable vehicle. As of March 2017, I only did routine maintenance on the Caliber and would recommend that car to anyone shorter than 6' tall.

I have owned this car, sunburst orange, for over a month now and all I can say is that it gets better and better. I now go 195 miles on half a tank of gas (mostly because I don't gun the engine and rarely use the a.c.). The cargo room is large, especially with the rear seats folding down. It works well for my business ventures. The interior is very comfortable, but really, all new vehicles are. right? the middle consol does need some extra padding for those long trips. and as another reviewer noted, the chill zone isn't really "chill", definitely something that needs to be perfected, but not a deal breaker. Engine still quiet, no unusual noises, just straight joy.

I certainly can't complain. My wife has put over 200,000 miles on this car with minimal maintenance. We've replaced the struts, alternator, throttle body twice, and the thermostat housing. We just bought our 4th set of tires. The oil and filter gets changed at 14k-15k with Mobile 1 extended performance. It's a very versatile car.

After a bad initial experience, I took a chance and reordered the Rush. After 6 months, no regrets. Car is doing everything I wanted it to do. Pleased w/ all features, especially the mileage. Maybe I'm lucky, but I get an average 27 in the city and 35 on the highway w/ the 5 speed. Also, I added an aftermarket Curt (not the inadequate Mopar) 1 1/4" receiver hitch and use a cargo carrier to occasionally haul stuff outside. this works great. no drag, interference w/ hatch, or blocking of tail lights/license plate, and simple to install/remove.

Caliber Heat 2.0 CVT

Mine's a CVT, but "5-speed manual" was all that was listed. Handles great, fantastic brakes, but no power. Comfortable & rides nice, but lots of wind noise. Dealer's had to reattach shielding inside both front wheel wells 3 times so far & it's loose again right now. My main complaint is the mileage. Again, mine has the CVT transmission & the 2.0 motor. I drive 4 blocks from my home to the the 4-lane interstate every morning. I then drive 22 miles on the interstate with the cruise control engage & exit. I then 1 mile to the front door of my employer. I do this twice a day 5 to 6 days a week. I believe all of this would be considered "highway" miles. My Dodge Caliber Heat is averaging 21 MPG!

I recently purchased a relatively new 2011 Dodge Caliber Mainstreet for $12,900 it had only 600 miles. I am relatively happy with ownig this car. However, I found that this car to be very slow, the 4cyl, 158 hp engine with the CVT transmisson is very weak. The engine lacks power for changing lanes and going up hills it makes long distance driving very difficult. Extremely poor gas mileage about 20- 24 mpg. Cheap interior and uncomfortable seats. Positive things are exterior styling and interior room. I would never buy this car at retail at $21,000. Howeve, if you can find one at a discounted price I would buy it. They are good commuter cars for providing basic transportation

My parents got this as their loaner car while they were having their PT Cruiser worked on. They weren't going to drive it so I did. I was incredibly surprised with this car. It rides very smooth even on the freeway. It picks up speed quick, but when you floor it nothing happens. I took to 110 MPH no problem and it didn't feel like it was gonna fall apart. It handles and drives well. When you go around a corner quickly there is barely any body roll. I thought something was wrong with the transmission but then I realized it had a CVT. The base stereo sounds amazing and the standard features are unbelievable. The interior needs some work. There is cheap battleship grey plastic everywhere!

Ownership experience was limited to 1 hour. Although ordered correctly, Dodge failed to manufacture the car correctly by leaving out 1 of 3 options....where was the quality control?? Took car for initial drive and it overheated in less than 5 miles. After listening to salesman and manager attempt ever increasing levels of BS, we took our deposit and left.

i owned the vehicle for three years. In those three years i had to replace temperature sensors, struts because it sounded as if they had rocks inside, oil dipstick because it cracked with the heat. The transmission oil was 450, because no one other then the dealership wanted to touch it. Acceleration was soo poor, driving was soooo boring. I tried maintaining a positive attitude about the car, but now that I'm in a honda, its crazy how stupid i was to get this car. I will never get a dodge or american car based on this car. Gas consumption was horrible for being a 2.0, this car sucked.

All Dodge Calibers-all years have this problem. Dodge is aware but refused to fix it. Should be recalled, but they won't do that either. Dealerships get them, knowing the problem and pawn off on the next person. Do yourself a favor and do not buy this car, no matter what year. They leak!! Do not let them tell you otherwise. You'll be dealing with water on your floors, seat, inside of roof, rearview mirror, etc. These are all Dodge Calibers.

I don't own the car, but I'm renting a brand new vehicle from Enterprise with less then 1000 miles on it while my primary daily driver is in the body shop. Caliber has a poor finish. It looks alright, but the car is poorly assembled. It's noisy, the gearbox is lame, there is glue coming out of a shift lever. The rear hatch has to be slammed in order to close it and the passenger door is out of alignment.

This car has been nothing but trouble since the day I purchased it. First, it poured down rain through the sun roof. Dodge claimed they never heard of this problem, but I found it all over the Internet. Because of Dodge's refusal to acknowledge it, it took 3 months to fix. Next, the check engine light kept coming on. On the third try, I was again able to find the problem and get them to fix it. This time, it could have killed me. The suspension system rusted out prematurely (12 years, 98,000 miles), and I made it to the repair shop just in time. According to the picture and service manager, it's shocking I wasn't killed in an accident before arriving. It rusted through so badly, the steering column and engine were barely being held up by a thread. I have the pictures to prove it. I wouldn't have another Dodge if someone gave it to me for free. I'm just thankful it never fell apart while my granddaughter was riding with me. Take my advice and don't buy a used Caliber. Thankfully they no longer are being made

I am a longtime Chrysler buyer, 18 yrs. I spent about 8 weeks looking for a new car as my Chrysler Sebring was ready to come off lease, looked at them all, Ford, Chevy, Kia, Hyundai, etc. I have been driving this 2010 Pacific Blue caliber for about a month, and 1500 miles. My only complaint is that the operation of the chill zone is not adequate, I suppose if I was on the road 3-4 hrs it would be, directions for it are scanty also. My wife thinks the seat comfort is great, she hated the seats in my 2007 Sebring.
