2017 Silverado Z71 Crew.. Meh...
So I bought my 2017 Silverado after owning a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 for a change in pace as my Dodge was approaching 100k miles. My pickup is a crew cab LT with leather interior which is kind of a unique package. A couple things I like about the pickup first. 1. I get excellent mileage for a 1/2 ton pickup. trips I average around 19-21 and my lifetime mpg according to the computer is 17.2 mpg. Not bad at all for a pickup. 2. The infotainment center with Apple Car Play is awesome. I love the connectivity with my phone, touch screen is user friendly, and there seem to be no hiccups in the technology on this end. 3. I think it's a sharp looking pickup and with the 20 inch factory wheels on it, I get compliments on the pickups looks. 4. Besides regular service, I have not put a dollar into this pickup, or returned to the dealer for warranty work or additional service. This needs to be noted because I'm going complain next. 5. It tracks straight and rolls quiet at highway speeds. Now for some complaints I have about the pickup. 1. The 6 speed transmission is terrible in my opinion. Drive this pickup through a rural town as you would normally, and you will quickly find out that consumers complaints regarding the sloppy knocking transmission is warranted. I can't believe when downshifting how loud this transmission knocks. Yes - the pickup is broken in with 40K miles on it. No - the "learning transmission" has not learned anything. 2. I can not stand the cylinder deactivation or AFM (Active Fuel Management?) I believe GM calls this. Yes - I can feel it in town and on the highway. No - it's not smooth kicking in and out. Yes - I worry about engine longevity with this feature. No - I don't think it's hardly improved since my 2010 Silverado Crew cab. 3. These seats are uncomfortable. Go ride in a Dodge Ram or a F150 with Leather and the seats are by far more comfortable in either of these choices. 4. I pulled an Ice Castle camper/fish house with this pickup with a gross weight of 5,800 lbs. dry. I wasn't impressed. Even in tow/haul mode the pickup was fighting to find the right gear and on a 55 mph road with the cruise set at 59 mph, the pickup downshifted into 3rd gear going up a hill putting my rpms somewhere around 4,500+. Are you kidding me with this weight? The sway wasn't good either. The pickup pulled poor for a weight that I though wouldn't sweat the pickup. Here's my 2 cents on the pickup in conclusion... While there are features I really do like about this Silverado, I'm not impressed by the overall package I'm getting. I can not complain about the service end of this pickup, but I think Chevy needs to figure out their transmission before I'll buy another GM product. ** Update1/16/20 - I still have the Silverado with 52,500 miles on it and it's really treated me well so far. I picked up a Range Technologies AFM delete module that you plug into your OBD2 port under the steering wheel on the pickup. I can not recommend this product enough. The pickup no longer goes from 8 to 4 cylinders which significantly improves the ride, shifting, power of the pickup. Lifetime MPG dropped slightly to 17.1. Sill no trips to the shop for big repair items. Transmission seemed to improve significantly with AFM shut off.

Hesitation on acceleration and hard shifting
This truck hesitates when accelerating and it shifts hard in both upshifts and downshifts. I read a bunch of online reviews on various websites and found out this is a common problem. I took it back to the dealer, they looked it over, and told me the same thing--it's a common problem. They said it would work itself out, but it might take up to 12 or 14,000 miles! I've now had it for 9 months and driven it for 13,600 miles. No change. It still hesitates when cold and even lukewarm. Once it gets hot, it doesn't have this problem unless I really punch it to try to pass some slow poke. If it downshifts to make the pass, it shifts hard and hesitates. This is all very frustrating and really disappoints me. I had a Colorado for 13 years that had no problems of this kind. (It had other problems, but not this one.) This problem makes me want to sell this truck and go with a Ram instead. *This is a Custom double cab with a 5.3, but this website didn't give that as a trim choice.

2017 LTZ Silverado Cheap Leather
Owned my 2017 Silverado for just over 4 months with only 12,000 miles and started noticing accelerated wear on the leather seats. The dealer said I should drive with my shirt untucked so my belt and pants dont rub on the leather........ talked to Chevrolet customer care and they blew me off and said they wouldn't warranty the leather. They suggested I put a seat cover on the seats to protect them. Talk about a disappointment. The interior quality of the leather is very poor and the customer service from Chevrolet was the worst I've had to deal with. I will not be buying another Chevy. I've been brand loyal for over 20 years......and this is how they repay loyalty.

2017 LT Allstar Edition/5.3/6speed/6.5" Bed/4x4
Worst truck I have ever owned. Leased it brand new in June of 2017, have put 16k miles on the clock since then ( writing this review Nov 2017) and have had it in the shop 3 times since purchase. Issues include: 1. Transmission slam shifting on the downshift: New solenoids/control module housing replaced at 7k miles and told problem was resolved. 2. Transmission slam shifting on the downshift: Threw codes for Barometric Pressure Sensor, mass air flow sensor and air intake temperature sensor at 9k miles; all sensors replaced and told that problem was resolved. 3. Transmission slam shifting on the downshift: Front and rear universal joints fractured and throwing grease; universal joints replaced, new transmission map uploaded by dealership and told that the problem was resolved. The vehicle still slams shifts on the downshift (usually 2nd and 1st gears) in city driving/any stop and go traffic conditions. The more research that I have done has brought to light the fact that this is in no way an isolated issue with the transmission (6L80E), yet somehow GM cannot figure out to properly fix it. To put the icing on the cake, the frame is not painted but just sprayed with a tacky coat of remediation spray that can be wiped off with no effort, revealing bare steel (this was done accidentally when I wiped oil off one of the frame crossmembers while changing it). The suspension is so soft the truck will literally hop down the road when encountering any tips, or look like a low-rider hopping with air bags God forbid you are off-road. On the same note, the stock Dunlop tires cannot hold the road in wet conditions and offer very little handling performance. The cab vibrates on long hauls at highway speeds to the point where the center seat console literally shakes. The seats are beyond uncomfortable, for long periods of time, and this is speaking from trips to Texas, Wisconsin and Tennessee within 4 months time from South-Eastern PA. The only real positives of the truck include the gas mileage and the 4x4 system which honestly are the only two things that have really impressed me. Clearly I would not recommend anyone buying a Chevy as the overall quality is far less than what it seems every other manufacturer is offering in a half-ton pickup.

Super-pleased!!
I traded off my 2012 Ford F150 for the Silverado 1500 crew cab, in January. It came with the V-6. I am super-pleased. the 4x4 mode works smoothly. The OnStar navigation , the satellite radio system, and the dual-zone climate control are all excellent. The V-6 has more than enough power for all my needs, which include towing my ATV trailer and my aluminum runabout boat. Unlike the Ford 3.5 liter V-6, which relies on high RPM for it's power, the bigger block 4.6 of the Chev has way more low RPM torque and power. Hence you don't have the high RPM screaming of the Ford, nor do you have the incessant up and down and up shifting of the Ford's six speed transmission. The Chev gives you the sensation that you are driving a bigger, heavier truck. I am very anal retentive about gas mileage. Every gallon of gas I have bought since 1982 is recorded in my little note books! I can safely say that the heavier Chev, with the bigger block V-6, gives me minimally about 1.5 more MPG for local driving and 2 to 2.5 more MPG for trip driving! I highly recommend the Silverado Crew Cab 1500 4x4 with the V-6 and the base level trailering package! BUT - two things annoy me. Worst headlights I have ever had on any vehicle I have ever owned. Excellent satellite and FM radio, but very pathetic AM radio reception.

The ALMOST perfect Pickup.
#1---I like this P.U. except 2 things. You have to push extra hard on the brake pedal for braking. (Not a big problem.) ...#2 The Big problem is the Radio controls. To change bands or/and stations takes UnNecessary steps. Takes your attention away from driving. Older radio controls are much better. Update,It seems to serge when you ease on The gas peddle . The Radio is still a big Problem. The 4 wheel /2 wheel/ low range knob lite is so small, It is impossible to see in bright light. Evan though the 4 / 2 wh. knob may say 2 wheel drive, The P.U. can be in 4 wh. drive....( Poor Design ) The 4 wheel drive indicator knob continues to be a big Problem. Update, The Radio and the 2/4 wheel selector knob are the only BIG problems.

No More Bowties For Me
2017 Midnight Z71. Like the truck, hate the Chevy Dealer who sold it. Brand new, trans surges & downshifts too hard. Dealer lied & said Chevy didn't know anything about it. Nothing they could do. Different Chevy dealer knew all about it, had a TSB on it already. 6 speed trans problems. Tried to tow my Vette & felt like the trans was coming thru the floor. Beware. Lifetime bowtie guy, next truck will be an F-150. Update, 9000 miles. Trans banging on downshift. Dealer still lying. Update, 2019, still shifting rough, dealer Jerry's Chevrolet Balto. Md told me I had air in trans. Lol.

Known Engine issue
The 5.3 engine has a noticeable hesitation at various speeds. There are also times when decelerating quickly, the engine slams down into gears. Research on the internet provides numerous complaints by 2017 owners. This is a known problem by Chevy and they even had a Service Bulletin on it.The guess at the problem is to do some type of diagnostic on the engine and of if falls within certain guidelines, to change the transmission fluid. Not sure why you change the fluid on a new vehicle. Reading also indicates this solution does nothing. Stay away from this vehicle.

Uncomfortable driver seat
I test drove a regular cab, standard bed model. I liked everything about the truck, except the uncomfortable driver seat. I adjusted the seat forward and backwards and all the lumbar adjustments and it was just horrible. It was only a 10 minute test drive and my butt and back were hurting me! I have a 2000 LS S10 and that worn out seat is still far superior than this truck! I have been buying new GM trucks for 35 years and never had a seat that bad!

Why my 2017 Chevrolet 1500 is a antique
My Chevy 1500 crew cab High Country is a antique! I put 7,400 miles on it and traded it in on a Ram 1500 Longhorn here is what I liked about the High Country the looks great, the 6.2 v-8 is why I bought it great power and fuel mileage, now what I did not like: the 8 speed transmission shifted out of first way to soon, if I gave it a little gas and let up it would make a load thump and when you come to a stop and need to make a turn it would shift out of first 1/2 way into the turn so in traffic you lose that power of first gear, only a 26 gal. gas tank Ram 32 gal., to manual shift the trans you have to take your hand off the steering wheel, I also had a problem when I used it in first it was great but when I shifted into second a couple times there was a big lag, I hated the key fob you had to lock/unlock the truck with it the Ram the fob remains in your pocket and just touch the door handle (inside of handle to open outside to lock and you HAD to use the key for the start) the seat belt was always dropping off my shoulder, on my Ram I could get lower gears (for towing) would have made a huge difference, the Ram was much better going over railroad (bumpy) tracks, both trucks have the 6' 4" bed the Ram seems to have a tighter turning radius?. The worst part is I'am a Chevy person, I drag race with only Chevy engines and I do love the LS engines Edmonds wants me to update this post as you can see I traded the Chevy for a Ram and I still like the Ram just waiting until Chevy up dates the Silverado with more power 450 HP or more and paddle shifters for the Ram when they put a gas engine with 450 HP or more I will be looking to buy!. I sold the antique and traded it for a new Ram because it has a 32 gallon gas tank, 3.90 gears, touch the outside door handle to lock/unlock, better ride, no key to start, shift up/down is on the steering wheel NOT on the shift lever (so you don't have to take your hand off the steering wheel), still waiting for a truck with more H.P. and paddle shifters, Ford is coming out with a new V8 I will be checking it out!

I will never buy another Chevy Silverado
Google "Chevy Silverado Vibrations" before buying this truck. Vibrations and other problems that have been going on since 2014 are still not fixed in 2017 model. Dealerships and GM will not stand behind the warranty on the Silverado. After three visits for same problem dealership refused to work on truck anymore. Had to get GM involved and that was a waste of time. Looks like it is time to get a Lemon Lawyer and sue GM. Do not buy the Chevy Silverado there is a reason that Ford F150 is truck of the year again and out sold Silverado by hundreds of thousands of trucks. Brand new truck and it had broken rear suspension parts replaced plus rear sliding window was replaced. Check your origin of manufacture on window sticker before buying. Mine was manufactured in Mexico and it is crap. I'm wondering now if this truck was wrecked in delivery process. The longer I own the Silverado the worse it gets. New problems every year. Junk. Still taking truck back to dealer for recalls and problems. Since GM blamed vibration problem on tires they kept changing tires and now I have a problem with tires/rims leaking all the time. Keep getting warnings from OnStar about tire pressure. Almost ran into back of several cars at stop lights. Turns out the brake assist pump is either bad or under sized for Silverado. Truck feels like it is accelerating instead of stopping. Had it replaced plus all the belts. Don't trust driving the truck anymore. Yet another problem with Silverado. Driving to work and truck goes into limp mode and started making all kinds of terrible noises. Sounded like parts were breaking and getting shoved out the tail pipe. With only 24,000 miles the ECM (Engine Control Module) went bad. Had to have it replaced. Dealer didn't tell me there was a "ECM learning" period after replacing ECM and almost wrecked truck when it surged at stop light behind several cars. I was standing on brakes and engine was revving at about 3,500 rpm. Had to throw transmission into neutral to stop from hitting others. Silverado continues to disappoint me. Had known braking problem fixed twice and truck still has issues coming to a stop sometimes. I just can't tell when it is going to have trouble stopping until its too late. Sounds like the problem GM had with the ignition switches. GM probably not going to do anything until someone gets killed. Truck still occasionally surges when pulling up to stop sign. Revs up to 2,000 rpm and you have to stand on the brakes. I don't think it's related to the brake assist pump that GM replaced twice already. Forgot to mention I had rust repair done in first year of owning truck. I wish Edmunds would allow less than 1 star rating.

Buy something else!!!!!
This 2017 red line addition silverado is pretty but....... I have owned this truck for 1 year. It is my fourth one. My past trucks have been LT with the 4.3 V6. In my world the 4.3 is 100% better than the 5.3 V8. This truck once I exceeded 5500 miles turned into a LEMON. It has been back to 2 different dealers many times and all they do is print bullitens from GM saying my complaints are normal so they can't fix anything except a faulty muffler and my CD player broke. My MPG is horrible on average 15 I know atleast 10 others with the same exact truck and get 18 to 24 all day long. My truck is not a LTZ as listed there wasn't a title for my exact model on this review. Okay back to the bad......shifting is horrible the truck down shifts hard throwing you into the dash. It will leave from a dead stop with hesitation and jolt you into whiplash . The transmission knocks when going into reverse and coming out of 4wd. I have a case open with GM and they tell me they are sorry and because my truck is not throwing a code they can't fix it??So I'm stuck with this car for atleast another year and hopefully can get out of this lease without getting hurt badly? I would advise anyone looking at GM trucks to look at how many unhappy owners there are between model year 2016 - 2019 even the 2019 trucks are have problems. Did I mention my engine will just shake at idle from time to time. That's normal too! For me No more GM trucks I recently drove a 2017 F-150 and thought it was nicer across the board especially the ride. Another thing don't buy any truck with 20 inch wheels you will be sorry! Ride is terrible!! The good year tires that most come with are absolute garbage especially in snow and that has to do with the 20 inch size so I just changed them and went with coppers. At this time I can say the handling of this truck is 100 % better in snow and rain so hey 1 thumbs up! If I was looking for a new truck at this time it would be Ford or Dodge. All the ratings and reviews put them above chevy and I do know a few people who had owned chevy before and now drive both Ford and Dodge and they tell me life is much happier than before driving a GM truck. As things continue now the truck sometimes will not go into drive. I have to rock it into reverse and back to drive. Are you sure you want to buy a GM truck??? More negative on here than positive. The dealer will not do anything about it because the truck is not throwing a code. Wish you all the best with your new Ford!

2017 Chevy 1500 Crew Cab
With only 55,000 miles, transmission has poor performance and is very sluggish. The display goes completely black at times when a call comes in. I am just very disappointed with Chevrolet as these trucks are built with poor quality and performance. I am purchased a Dodge and I should have went with my mind.
Loved it........ now I hate it!!!!
I purchase a 2017 chevy silverado and had it 4 year with no issues. Scheduled maintenance maintained on it and love the ride and handle. Like all good stories that start out great, came the tragedy. It started with a check engine light. Had the codes pulled and it stated knock sensor. I replace both at the dealership. Check engine light came on a few days later with a traction light with it!! Long story short, lifters on cylinder 4 was bad!!!! Dealership told me labor along would be 3,500!! The vehicle only had 86,000 miles on it and required internal motor work. Not to mention, mechanic stated that the cams would need to be replaced as well. Next came the jerking and shaking. I don't know was it the motor or transmission but it felt like someone lightly bumped me from the rear when the motor shifted down upon approaching a stop sign or light. Priced a new motor and estimate was between 8,000 - 9,000!!! Had plans to keep this truck till the end but now questioning whether to buy a chevy vehicle ever again!!!!

Best used vehicle I’ve ever purchased.
After a vehicle pulled out in front of me while traveling at highway speed. I need to replace my wonderful Equinox turbo 2.0. The market for vehicles is not very good right now due to the microchip shortage putting a hurt on used cars as new car shoppers have to look at other options. Replacing my Nox was going to cost me $7500 more than I paid for it last fall. So I purchased a 2017 Silverado LT Z71 with the 5.3 and 6spd transmission. (Not an option in the selection tool above.) First off, yes the transmission isn’t the smoothest unit, it calls to mind previous Chevy truck transmissions I’ve had. Not refined, but still some of the toughest in the world. MyLink works without error, most of the time, interior build quality rivals RAM, and is much better than Toyota, or Ford’s hard plastic interiors. The seats are unbelievably comfortable, radio has some really good sound to it. The V8 engine has serious grunt, and yet on the long drives between my customers, I’m averaging 21+ mpg. My old V6 mini-trucks in years past couldn’t do that. My wife loves the fact that it’ll tow her camper, seat us, the kids and the dogs! Sharpnack Chevrolet even provided me a low cost 100,000 mile warranty that covers the truck bumper-to-bumper. I called the top warranty companies and their warranty options were nearly $3500, I paid just $2,000. I’m extremely happy with my purchase choice. Here’s to many years working, towing, and truck life.

My luxury car with a bed for my kayak!
This truck is a work horse! It pulls our toy hauler RV full like a dream. I can easily load my kayak & fishing gear & go. BUT it's the luxury that sold me! It's a truck that gets noticed, and it has nicer interior options than my loaded Buick Lacross had. We have a regular Ford F150 for a work truck, (and it's nice too)...but the High Country is the family car with plenty of space for 3 kids and all of our stuff. We are an outdoors family so we wanted something that would feel like a luxury family car but still be able to carry our gear. It's too expensive for just a work truck you could get a cheaper work truck with less frills...but for what we use it for, it's perfect! Also I'm only 4'11" and the adjustments for the seat/steering/pedals make a big truck a perfect fit for a small person!

Lots of vibration
I bought this vehicle at the end of 2016, It shakes like hell between 65-80mph off the lot, This vehicle has been work on for about three weeks to date. All I have gotten is a run around from the dealer, it's the rims and tires, it's balancing issues. They play these silly games, they attempt to make you feel like you are the problem. One customer service representative told me the speed limit was 60mph, all vehicle shakes. Can you believe this nonsense? One of there mechanics told me something was wrong with the vehicles frames and not sure why GM has not own up to it. I have talked with many people with the exact vehicles....same complaint from them. I can't believe the government let these companies get away with such.

Do yourself a favor and read this...
This gets 2 stars just because of the looks and the ride quality. Very nice looking and smooth. That's where the good ends and the nightmare begins. Bought this truck new in 2017. Did all the research and read all the reviews. I loved it and have always been meticulous as far as servicing and taking care of it. It was fine for over 3 years and about 100,000 miles (90% interstate). Then things started happening. First a little lesson. The AFM system, or Active Fuel Management system, is garbage. It is used to limit the power of an 8-cylinder engine and help increase its fuel economy. The system itself is activated when the engine reaches certain perimeters, such as a cruising highway speed. This allows an 8-cylinder engine to run on only four cylinders. I didn't know all the trouble these systems were having. This one screwed me in July of 2021. This fuel management system along with cheap lifters and other parts, are a time bomb. I was driving along and everything went crazy. All the engine lights came on, serious smoke from the exhaust and under the hood, and loud knocking. I was able to get it to a shop. Bent lifters and other broken parts. $4400 engine rebuild. Of course, out of warranty. Come to find out, GM knows all about it and has been sued. But still, no recall or even admitting they have faulty products. They even have a service bulletin for their service departments telling how to fix it. GM's stance, if it happens out of warranty you have to pay and get it repaired at a dealership. Then if it happens a second time, GM will pay for it. Gee, thanks GM! I had the truck back about a month and the transmission went out. Another issue GM is aware of and is in the middle of a lawsuit over. Out of warranty, and another $4000. All this was before the truck had 105k miles on it. These 2 repairs would have been double the price at the dealership. And all the while I kept getting emails from Asheville Chevrolet about trading it and getting a new truck. I responded and told them to remove my address and why I will never buy another GM product. The sales manager did respond and asked me about the issues. He asked if I wanted the service manager to contact me to discuss things. I said yes I did. I wouldn't mind talking to him and seeing what Asheville Chevrolet's opinion is. A week or so later the sales manager emailed me again and said that since I didn't get the dealership to do the repairs, there is nothing they can do. His idea was for me to bring it in and trade for a new one. Obviously that's not happening. And of course, I have never heard a word from Asheville Chevrolet's service (or lack of) manager. Things are still not good. The Apple car play has never fully worked. I plug in my phone and it will connect about 1/2 the time. I've used 3 different phones and about a dozen different cords. Doesn't help. And now, the check engine light is on with a P0440 emission code. Haven't gotten it looked at yet. The air conditioner is not blowing cold air either. I had it charged with coolant and it evidently has a leak. I am getting these issues fixed and unloading this piece of s___ as fast as I can. I have never been more disappointed or disgusted with a company or vehicle. Maybe mine is just a bad one? Nope. I know of 3 other 2017's that friends or coworkers own that have had or are having transmission issues. One of them had his truck get stuck in 4 cylinder mode going up a hill on a 5 lane interstate! Slowed him down to about 15 miles an hour before he could get off the road. While another one has had the lifters bent and engine rebuilt also. I have made it my goal to talk anyone that will listen out of buying a GM product. If I know of anyone in the market for a car or truck, I tell them my story and they are horrified. In the last 10 months, I've been able to change 6 different peoples minds and they have bought other brands. I will continue as long as I have a voice to do it! Petty? Maybe. But I get satisfaction out of knowing they are driving by the Chevrolet dealership to buy something else. Here's an idea GM. Shut down Buick and scale back on all the stupid marketing you do. Put that $$ into making a decent product. THIS is why people don't want to buy domestic vehicles. And I can't blame them. I know every automaker is pretty much crooked and tries to screw over the consumer. But GM takes it to another level and doesn't care and will do nothing about any issues. You've been warned. Learn from my mistakes and problems. Take your hard earned $$ elsewhere.

Buy Something Else
I always wanted a Z71 Silverado 4X4 Crew Cab. I purchased a used 2017 in LT trim in 2019. Before I got home from the dealer the Air Pump Brake Booster Failed. Dealer fixed, Recall. Next I realized no mid vents for the rear? Next the plug for the drivers window is placed on the outside of the door gasket and gets full of water. Its a lot of fun repairing that. Next, the transmission self destructed. Stamped Steel torque converter came apart and destroyed the transmission. Speaking of stamped steel, check out the control arms. Now after joining facebook groups based on this truck I now wait for my AFM DOD Lifters to fail which according to all owners is inevitable and if not caught immediately can destroy the motor. It seems GM made sure there was plenty of planned obsolescence in this vehicle. Other annoying facets, The Infotainment is un updatable. None of the apps work anymore. Apple Car play is wired and glitchy requiring constant un plug and re plugging in phone. The wireless charger center console was designed with 2009 phones that are tiny. The A/C takes R1234y which is $150 a can and the port is located right underneath both heater core hoses and radiator hoses which will blister your skin while trying to connect to AC port. The AC condenser is shared with transmission cooler so if one fails you to replace your refrigerant and your transmission. The wheel wells are square so don't plan on adding larger tires without a 6'' lift. My Stock Size tires and rims rub my control arms at full lock... That lift will require cutting and welding btw. Driveability: From the day I got the truck the shifting was clunky and jarring, but the 4 cylinder to 8 cylinder mode acceleration gap is true fun. Sadly I need to keep this truck for the long haul so I have to deal with its idiosyncratic behavior. Pros: Decent gas mileage, Nice to drive on the highway, great visibility and headlights.

Near perfect...
This Silverado replaced a 2003 GMC SIERRA that had proven reliable and comfortable and had a ‘17 GMC in similar trim to the Silverado I purchased been available I’d have gone with another Sierra. The ‘17 Silverado is a big step up from my ‘03 Sierra. The ride is much better, the interior far upgraded and the new technology and safety features much advanced. Fit and finish is truly handsome and the LTZ Z71 in white makes a stunning truck. However...it’s not perfect. The 8-speed tranny can at times make strange shifts and occasionally the included GM On Star disappoints, in particular the navigation routing is really troubling. But overall this truck deserves a 4 Star Plus rating. As to reliability...time will tell but I think it will be around average for a pickup this size. UPDATE : 11/26/‘18 It’s been just a year since I submitted the above review. I now have 4000 miles driven and one long round trip of 1100 miles. There have been no warranty problems and just one service visit for an oil change. On the trip from Eastern Long Island, N.Y. to the Eastern Shore of Virginia the Silverado was well behaved at turnpike speeds and remarkably efficient for a big heavy pickup. I recorded 27 MPG on the highways but that drops to 22 mpg on local roads. On the turnpike the V8 has no trouble keeping up with traffic, maintaining 80 mph without an complaint. On the highway at 55 mph the engine spends a lot of time on four cylinders...very efficient system. My model is the LTZ 4x4 Crew Cab with a six foot bed. I added a hard, three panel cover over the bed ($1100.00 with tax and installation) and this no doubt improves mileage at highway speeds. On the long drive the Silverado proved very comfortable (and I need to point out I have arthritis in my hips and knees ) even on two four hour nonstop runs Northbound . There’s plenty of room in the second for a couple of kids or teenagers. Two adults maybe not on a long run. My only disappointment on this very nice truck is the auto-tranny. It can behave beautifully and does most of the time. But at times it can really jar you with clumsy down shifts to first and shifts from a stop to first. I’ve had shifts while slowing for a stop that really scared me. I have read a number of reviews that mentioned this same issue. My ‘03 GMC never had this problem. All in all I still rate this truck four stars...it’s expensive but you get a very nice truck.

Hawkeye Ride
Black cloth interior not fun to keep clean. No heated seats, not good in winter. Love the ride & comfort. Visibility over the hood can be a challenge for my 5'1" frame. Electronics good. I get lots of compliments from the guys.

I hate this truck
the truck drives fine, nothing to write home about but nothing to complain about. its the stereo that ruins this truck. it "features" the inability to remember your previous settings. what you were doing when you turned it off. i set it up to bluetooth with my phone to play music. but when you turn off the vehicle it decides you must have wanted to listen to the radio again. it also decides that you must have wanted to turn the volume down so you can not hear the bluetooth fm transmitter you installed so it will play music correctly. in short there is no reason why you should have to buy a $15 dollar accessory to make play music off your phone without requiring a 20 second delay to allow human interaction, every time you turn the car off. it is so frustrating it ruins all the driving experience and makes me hate this car

1 1/2 trouble free years
I have owned at least 7 GM truck products and with only one exception, have had little trouble with any of them. I blew a motor in 1200 miles (yes, twelve Hundred) on a 3500. The dealer discovered or guessed that the main bearings were installed wrong and the engine rapidly ate itself. The manufacturer was hands on and replaced the whole motor with a new box engine and a rental car for a week. The truck was problem free from that point. I just traded my 2017 4WD LT All Star edition 5.3 for a 2019 2500HD LT 6.0 gasser (I tow a travel trailer and needed more truck) a short time ago. My 2017 was absolutely trouble free. I towed a 28 foot travel trailer to Colorado, Arizona and Nevada last year going over 8000 feet in Colorado to 0 feet in Nevada with no issues. Gas mileage was so-so hooked up (10 mpg) and a little better than so-so when traveling solo (16 mpg). the cloth seat interior held up well and there were no rattles, bangs or thumps to be felt or heard. The 4WD worked flawlessly and the trans never over heated once going over the mountains of Northern Arizona or Colorado. I was driving around the North Rim in AZ at over 8000 feet. I guess if there is a point to be made, it is that most posts on sites like this are complaints which I believe are dealer issues more than GM warranty issues. Most who are happy about there experiences are less inclined to write about them than those who are unhappy. I wanted to supply a little balance to the reviews as a happy camper who has owned multiple GM trucks from 1977 to present. Remember, there are a million plus trucks sold every year so you can't judge a manufacturer by a relatively few, but more from the absence or comments. Do your homework with dealer satisfaction numbers in mind and pick one with a good track record. Chevrolet makes a good product in general and remember, all manufacturers have their detractors.

Worst built truck I've ever had
This truck has been in the shop more than any truck I've ever owned. Bought it new and it has been nothing but trouble. Transmission replaced at 85,000 and still shifts hard. Chevy used to have 100,000 mile warranty, until there quality went down hill, now its 60,000 and that's when your trouble starts. I have bought my last Chevrolet. Go Toyota if you want the most dependable vehicle on the road.

Great value for a pickup!
I’ve had my crew cab for a year. Throughout this time I’ve been able to travel pulling an rv, work trailer, and gone on road trips. Overall it’s a great value for what you get. Powerful V8 to pull and keeps RPMs low for lower gas consumption. Very comfortable inside and gives me the ability to us Apples CarPlay or connect to Bluetooth devices. Been very happy with this pickup. These Silverado’s are only gonna get better and better. Durable, reliable, Chevy...
Love it
Got the black edition WT/ 6.5ft box /dbl cab/5.3 used at 21000. Truck was clearly used as a work truck but didn’t care because I got it cheap. In the first 1000 I owned it I did notice the rough downshifts like others have said. Brought it back to the dealer and they “re-flashed” the trans computer and ever since that It has been very good to me (now at 80000). Ive had no issues with the motor, just make sure to check once a week at oil level and top up if needed. Also installed an oil catch can to help with the oily blow by building carbon on the intake manifolds. Also installed the range afm deactivation chip. Truck did have a slight shake to it at highway speeds but has gone away after I lifted it and swapped out some suspension parts (new struts, bigger control arms, bigger knuckles). Tows a boat great. Interior is pretty basic , cloth seats. Looks mean as hell all blacked out. Chevy recommended 87octane gas but i think thats bs, this motor has a comp. ratio 11:1:0 as well as the 6.2 but the 6.2 is called for 93. Any “hesitation” yall feeling in the motor could be from using 87. I run 91 and accelerates and holds rpms at idle very smoothly. Have had 5.3s in the past and they have all proven reliable if you know how to take care of it. Most people complaining on here shouldn’t even own a truck. 4x4 works great my truck has a floor shifter which is standard i guess for the WT models which i personally like better then the little electronic knob. Not a 5 star because the inside of the front wheel wells are very tight and requires trimming and cutting for bigger tires.

Disappointed
I leased my truck based on Chevy reputation. Bad choice. Two major complaints - the seats are the worst. They are so hard. I have been using 2” of extra foam padding to be able to go anywhere over 20 minutes away. I live in NW Wisconsin and we has -35 for a couple days. I waited until the temp was about -10 and drove it to town. Shut it off, it wouldn’t start. Finally started and ran super rough, shifting only to 2nd then quickly downshifting . Had it towed to the dealer. They had 14 others come in with the same problem that week! What happened to dependability? I’ve got one year left in my lease and it can’t go by fast enough. Thus is a beautiful truck, but it’s sad they fell short on comfort and dependability. I do like the responsive 5.3 - awesome engine.

The Devils pitchfork in the front seat
I have driven numerous vehicles through the years all trucks. I have had some good and some bad on all brands. The 2017 I have today has by far the worst SEAT I have ever had in a pickup. Tremendous back pain when driving. I have three cushions in it and still take Tylenol and Advil to make it through a day. How do I know it is the seat? Asked a sales rep who the company he works for has chevys. Said they all have back trouble. Riding with a Sales Rep in his F250 Ford Lariat all day long no problem. Riding in Wifes 2006 Toyota Sequoia no problem. Driving neighbors 2006 Honda Accord, no problem. I drive 4000+ miles per month. I would not buy a chevy pickup until a major change is made in the seats.

Never buy another Chevrolet
I had a 2005 gmc sierra that I traded in on this truck. Never had a complaint. 180,000 miles. I loved that truck. I thought a new one would be even better. WRONG. Multiple trips to repair and replace parts with under 30,000 miles. Worst truck I have ever owned. Slow throttle response, terrible shifting transmission. Had to have the leaf springs replaced at 10,000 miles. I wish I would have never seen this truck and kept my old one. I can't wait until I don't own it anymore. A waste of a lot of money. At around 40,000 miles, transmission has to be replaced because it would keep moving even though it was in park. Still shifts terrible. leaf springs are creaking and popping again. Currently has 42000 miles. Worst vehicle that I've ever owned. Worst generation of truck that gm has made. Never buy one. Traded truck in at a loss for a ford. Will never own another gm product

First Brand New Chevy And My Last
The 2017 chevy 1500 was my first new truck purchase, and by far the worst truck so far. Within the first week i noticed a lack of consistent throttle response and slugish gear changes. The first time i had in the dealer for major repairs was when the transfer case blew out. The first time i brought it in they replaced a few sensors and claim the problem was fixed. Then i put it into 4wd a week later to take off from a red light during a snow storm then all the sudden lose all power. So there i am sitting in the middle of a intersection sitting in a broken down $55k truck. So i turn it off and was able to limp it home. Bring it back to the dealer and all of the sudden it is my fault. They started asking questions about how my weight i tow and blaming me for towing too much (16ft trailer with side by side 3000 lbs max). Then they go on to say i have too much weight in the bed (500 lbs max). Which were all 3x lower then what the manufacture claims the truck is capable of. So then they decide to rebuild it which took over 60 different parts rather then install brand new. So i complain about them not giving me any updates what was happening to gm. Gm starts to install accuse me of looking for a hand out. Which i firmly deny and then proceed to call me back 2 days later with a stupid accessories gift certificate. I then laugh at the customer care rep and tell her she doesn’t get that this horribly owned and run dealership doesn’t care at all about their customers. Which i then redeemed because why not and then tried to return a item that was ordered incorrectly. Which they charged of my gift certificate for nearly $350, and when i go to return it they claim the item i brought back only retails for $180. Anyways long story short do not get service done, warranted or not, done at cornerstone chevy in monticello mn.

Back up camera
Back up lite is Blinding at night can’t see so it’s dangerous at night. Makes it pretty much useless if dark. Numerous people complain and nothing done by corporation to fix. Own up to it and have a solution!
Cons
Multiple problems with my lifted 2017 ZL1 (bought new) noises started in the first months of driving. Air condition completely just stopped working no more cold air I guess. The truck even just stopped and didn’t turn back on, bought a new battery thinking that was the problem with no avail. Have spent hundreds and thousands of dollars to get things fixed that were due to cheaply made items. Do not get this truck if you live in a winter climate it is horrendous in snow it slides turns spins out of control due to the tired and center of gravity. The interior is dated at this point it wasn’t stunning when it was new anyway but the screen and buttons around it and the shape is just not pleasing to the eye looks like r2d2 yeah, bad. It is decently comfortable but the back seats are a bit bland there is no back seat zone air conditioning and or heating there is one car charger input there is no heated seats nothing. As expected gas isn’t even close to good but it’s a obvious thing in this group of cars (trucks). Do not recommend.

Sell before warranty goes out.
Transmission problems at 100k. Always shifted weird. Many other cosmetic issues. I used to be loyal to Chevrolet. Not any more.
Love the truck but hate the transmission
I love the truck overall, and the handling and ride quality, but I am extremely disappointed in the six speed automatic. Automatic has a known problem on these and Chevy will not acknowledge the issue once the tuck is out of warranty. I experienced problems with the transmission starting around 70,000 with it not wanting to downshift correctly and at 104,000 the torque converter went out and took the transmission out all the way despite keeping meticulous maintenance on it. This was my second Chevy and my first one did not give me problems even though that was an early 2000s model, but this transmission is beyond disappointment and it seems by reading other owners reviews they are experiencing the same difficulty. With the lack of help from the chevy reps I am now changing brands A few days after the transmission went out and was fixed the pushrods bent on a bank of cylinders due to oil starvation due to the cylinder deactivation design to save gas. Poor design and parts weren’t available to fix it and i ended up being stranded for a little over five months. Worst truck i ever owned.

Bad head lights
Head lights on low only good for 300 feet. At highway speeds this is absolutly dangerous. If it's raining you need to stay off the road. Yes it's that bad, if you need glasses it's probably worse.

Nice Truck - Weaker suspension than expected
I have loyally owned Silverado's for over 20 years; however the 2017's suspension is less rugged than any of the Silverado's I had even my 2014! Although they are not intended to put a ton of pellets in the bed, all previous years I owned could handle it with no problem. My 2017 was very unstable and completely undriveable with a ton of pellets or a full load of firewood in the bed. Similarly, towing my 30' camper was almost unbearable. I had to install an additional leaf spring to gain the capacity and towing capability I previously enjoyed in my previous Silverado's. This 2017 was ordered specifically with the max trailering package as well! I hate to think how it would have handled without it! Overall, I love my Silverado but wish they were stronger. It seems to me that GM is pushing the 2500 series if you really want a truck that can handle tasks that are intended for a truck.

New meaning to the word CLUNKER!
First off, I traded in a 2018 Honda Ridgeline for this 2017 Silverado 1500 as I purchased a new camper and the Ridgeline wasn’t up to the task but was the best vehicle I have ever owned other than the towing capability. So I made the shift to the Chevy for greater towing capability and stability and this was my first mistake! This Chevrolet has been a joke as far as power, it drives like it has the eco button engaged and has very little throttle response unless you “shower down on it” like literally that Ridgeline was way more fun to drive and felt like it had way more power. Now let’s talk about chevy’s “learning” pile of junk 6 speed auto, loud clunks frequently while down shifting, pathetic delay in shifting in 1rst -3rd gears, sluggish acceleration, and top it all off, you will get the obligatory slamming of gears when the transmission is shifting to first gear in stop and go traffic. I had taken it to three different dealerships with these same problems and each time I got the same answer, “learning transmission”. This truck was fixing to be out of my hair as the only good side to the truck was the decent fuel economy but fit and finish of interior was vastly inferior to the Honda. Anyway at 25000 miles I finally found a dealership who actually acted like they gave a rip and looked into the problem. It was a bad torque converter, still drives like in eco mode but fixed the shifting issues. About 3500 miles after the torque converter replaced, I noticed a oil leak from the primary output drive seal, took it to the dealership with truck still under warranty and they said the seal replacement is not covered under warranty. This ownership experience has ruined me with Chevy, the very last GM anything that I will purchase. Unreliable junk as far as I’m concerned. I hope this helps someone make an informed buying decision going forward! Lesson learned, lesson learned!

Disappointed
My disappointments so far is that an auto dimming inside rear view mirror is not available even as an option on this LT, and the outside temperature reading is inaccurate more than 50% of the time which causes the climate control to fail at maintaining a set temperature. I list this problem every time I take the truck in for servicing but the dealer only gave me a pre printed letter explaining why it doesn't work. It didn't help, it still doesn't work. My 5.3 v8 had lifter failure at 64000 miles, bending a push rod and damaging the camshaft. Had to have a new engine installed at $15,000.00

Texas Edition, Texas Hot
How in the hell can you build a Texas Edition truck in Texas where it is 102 with a heat index of 109 and not put rear a/c vents in the rear cabin. I changed from a 2004 Ford F150 Lariat to the 2017 Silverado Texas Edition LT 4x4. I knew the ride would not be is good, but hardly any insulation behind rear seat. I added some myself and helped a little. At 70 mph you cannot talk to people in rear seat. With 15K miles I'm thinking about better tires to see if it helps. Why would you not put rear sway bars on a 4x4 truck?

Transmission issues
I like the truck over all. It has decent power the looks and the smooth ride. Except for when it shifts. Sometimes it shifts smooth Sometimes its hesitant sometimes it jerks. Even slightly misses every once in a while, like when it goes to shift it revs up for s plot second then drop hard in RPMs. I have a lifetime power train worrenty as long as I jeep record or regular maintenance to not void it but I still feel like they will try and get out if it if something ever does happen. It's a LT 5.3 didn't give me the correct option
