2016 impala. Replaced rack n pinion twice. Now went into limp mode. Code is reading trans trouble. Catalytic converter rattles at start , quite loudly.(dealer says this is normal) my mechanics says it's not. Been in garage 6-7 times in 6 months....

Don't let the name Impala scare you awake! This is a new generation of Impala and it is beautiful and high tech!!! It has every bell and whistle and comfort feature you could ask for in a luxury car. This is the best car I have ever owned!!!

First month in low-mileage pre-owned 2016 Impala

Excellent vehicle overall. Attractive exterior design, strong engine paired with solid 6-speed transmission, decent fuel mileage on regular fuel, comfortable leather heated seats, lots of leg and head room, accessible controls. Major pluses: excellent interior room--I am 6'7" tall and have great head and leg room; the suite of safety features are noteworthy including backup camera, lane departure warning, cross traffic alert and front traffic safety alert when following too close. Minus: low profile tires are noisy (Goodyear R/S P245 45R19). Hope new tires will reduce noise when purchased in future. Eight months, 24,000 miles, several long trips, very pleased. Hwy mileage averaged 32 MPG on regular gas on recent 1,700 mile drive. Very comfortable on long drives--responsive drive train, long wheel base creates smooth ride, large trunk and backseat provides excellent storage, safety features were useful and appreciated. I upgraded my overall rating to a "Five". 14 month update: 28,800 miles. Performed well on a recent 2,200 mile trip, 31 MPG, no mechanical problems noted during trip or subsequent routine oil change and inspection. Will check new noise when turning wheel to right. Still rate a “5” overall. 20 month update: 38,500 miles. Still 5-star rating. No mechanical problems; performance, gas mileage, driving comfort, safety features all remain excellent. Big plus: I can install two large child car seats in back seat and still have comfortable riding position for both front seat passengers. 31 month review: at 49,500 miles, I remain highly satisfied. Just replaced original four tires at at 48,500. Only routine maintenance required. Vehicle is safe, reliable, comfortable, functional and fuel efficient (24.1 MPG combined over life of car). I downgraded my ratings for reliability and value in April 2020, due to unexpected major maintenance. I had to replace a leaking A/C compressor at 51K miles. The mechanic replaced the master drive belt at same time while engine was open. Total cost about $1,700. The Impala is still a smooth-driving vehicle, but that early repair expense earned the downgrade. Aug 2020: Major repair again to AC system, approx cost $1,800. Several coins slipped through the vent holes on top of the drivers side dashboard and short circuited the electrical wiring for (engine compartment area) air conditioning. Not the fault of the car; more the result of careless storage of pocket change. A different design for the vents (A screen covering?) might have prevented the loose coin fiasco. This was originally a program car so the coins may have been there since 2016. I downgraded reliability to a “three”.

Came out of a Chrysler 300 with constant trans problems, Only owned the Impala LTZ for two months now but so far is a great car, I got it fully loaded for a fantastic price, I had always owned Mopars but bought a Camaro last year for Christmas so when the trans went on my 2014 Chrysler 300 this was a logical choice, Just wish they had brought back the name of ( Caprice) instead of continuing to call it an Impala, lots of bad vibes attributed to that name. Time will tell how it handles on the rain and snow, I have read there are some problems there with traction. Also had some problems with service dept. at my dealer, not very professional, but that is an easy fix just changed where I will get it serviced. All in all I am very satisfied with the power and luxury of this auto, will write more if that changes....One thing I have notices as I do a lot of highway driving is rock chips, the paint does not seem to hold up to rocks being thrown up on the highway, never had this problem with my Chryslers, I also have a 2015 Camaro that I 3Md with clear plastic on the spots prone to rock chips, wish I had done to my Impala. I never noticed that the back seat map lights did not work (well one does one does not) they can not be seen from the front seat, only noticed when I had occupants in the rear tell me. Will be taking in to dealer to repair also have a recall on the car for an incorrect fuse determination for the auto trunk release. lets see how this goes,

Drive on city roads and highway before you buy

Got this as a rental thinking I was getting a good car. First thing is I hit my head getting in (I am only 5,8) visibility is poor being blocked by the rear view mirror on the front, head rest on the side and a very narrow rear window. It lacks power, the engine sounds like it is constantly struggling under the slightest attempt to accelerate, the transmission is constantly downshifting and up-shifting. It feels like it gets stuck between gears before finally completing the shift. I only drive in manual now. Throttle response is slow. Minor things: the center console cover is difficult to open, the drink holders are too small, back up camera picture is fuzzy, the electronic manual shifter is located on top of the gear shift so if you happen to rest your hand on it the car will inadvertently change gears. Positives: the seat is comfortable and I like the way it handles on back roads. I would not buy this car.
