X5 e40 too much fun!
This vehicle has so much going for it! I was blown away by its handling and smoothness both low and high speed. It has a setting for just about any situation with AWD to boot! It’s very nimble in high speed commuting and effortless driving. The silence during total electric running is mind blowing because it’s so quiet! The 19 mile range with total electric may vary depending on how fast you drive and how much stop and go you encounter. It really leaves you wanting more battery range in upcoming versions. Update: Since the pandemic started I no longer have a long commute which allows me shorter trips to pick up necessities. I have not put gas in it for 6 months and still have more than 1/2 a tank of gas! Going for a year between fill ups is mind blowing! UPDATE: The cheapest car to operate that I’ve ever had. Once a year Inspection and even though the engine runs very infrequently I have the oil changed anyway. I fill it up with gas maybe twice a year and bop around most of the time on pure electric. It’s quick and speedy and if I really need more power I can switch it to hybrid drive so the engine kicks in too The electrically heated steering wheel and seats keep me toasty in the winter so I don’t have to turn on energy wasting heating system for my comfort. It charges in as little as 2.5 hours using my garage based 240 volt circuit and really haven’t noticed a big change in my electric bill either. It makes me want to go pure electric now that I know how fun they are to drive once the charging infrastructure in our community gets updated.

I love the performance and fuel efficiency
I have driven 500 miles so far and have gone through just less than 1/2 a tank of gas! This vehicle is perfect for the way that I drive.

Manufacturer defects on electric motor.
My car is 2016 bmw x5 xdrive40e, 81000 miles on it. I brought my car to bmw dealership for battery. It cost me around 2k with dynastic. The service adviser told me there is an oil leak at an electric motor and turbo. Needs to remove transmission to find where the leak is. That cost me an extra $4565 plus tax. The mechanic finds out. Inside the electric motor, the flyweel came apart, damaging the transmission wall that makes cracked. It is manufacturer defects, but bmw dealers can not help with this problem. I checked with several other auto mechanic shops. No one can't help because bmw doesn't sell parts to anyone (electric motor with transmission). Long story short, (transmission and flywheel $14,728, Replace turbo $7061) total costs to fix $28,354+tax. Now, bmw dealers offer me $3500 to buy my car (plus & minus with some discount and labor cost).

Drivetrain Reliability
I bought this vehicle used at a BMW Dealership. It’s my 13th BMW! The drivetrain failed causing oil and gas to spray all over injectors—engine had to be replaced, fortunately BMW did cover most of it. The repairs at 74,000 mi were over $6000. This vehicle is mostly great as BMWs go but if it wasn’t for the gas mileage and being my dog car, I would dump it! I now have a 2 year full Warranty for new engine. As always, Service Department was stellar in handling this major repair and I drove a sweet 340i M Xdrive for 10 days. I got my car back. Although BMW did absorb a lot of cost, the repairs were still $6001.00. I drove it for 24 hours—the engine light is back on and there is grinding in right front end at 25/rpm consistently. Going back to Service. This vehicle is the quintessential LEMON, I’m afraid. Am I done with the brand? The more gimmicky it gets the more things there are to break. Is all this crazy technology necessary? Big price tag, bigger headaches.

Real Review - Hybrid BMW
The electric only is minimal at full charge, but it regenerates very quickly while driving. So, for every couple miles of hiway driving it adds an electric mile - Typically
