edmunds TESTED
With a high-tech, high-quality look and feel, a generous suite of standard safety gear, and an attainable price, the 2026 Acura MDX is one of the best all-around luxury midsize three-row SUVs available. Even the powered-up Type S is slower than many of the MDX's competitors, but buyers for whom getting there in comfort is more important than getting there fast will find the Acura mighty appealing.
Pros
- Pro:Generous cargo and passenger space

2026 Acura MDX Review
Overview

The midsize Acura MDX is an excellent value, bundling three spacious rows of seating with a generous suite of standard comfort and safety tech features at a price that undercuts many of its competitors. An update last year addressed perhaps the most grating of our few complaints, ditching the mousepad-based infotainment system with an easy-to-use touchscreen and making an already great SUV even better.
Edmunds spotlight: One for the faster crowd
Most MDXs are powered by Acura's faithful 3.5-liter V6, but the Type S packs a turbocharged 3.0-liter that boosts output to 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, gains of 65 hp and 87 lb-ft. The rest of the Type S is reworked to keep up with the greater pace the turbocharged-six can muster. An active exhaust adds aural excitement, while the Type S rides on an adaptive height-adjustable air suspension with retuned anti-roll bars for increased agility, and 21-inch wheels wearing wider rubber hide Brembo brakes up front.
Competitors to consider
Size-wise, the MDX faces off against midsize luxury SUV best-sellers like the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. But its standard three-row seating puts it in a niche crowd against vehicles like the Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 and the recently introduced Lexus TX, all of which — along with the BMW and the Mercedes — are more expensive. Read our Expert Rating below to see how the MDX stands out and where it could stand to improve.
What’s it like to live with?
We had an MDX in our One-Year Road Test fleet for a year when the current generation was new in 2022. Acura addressed our chief complaint from that evaluation — the unintuitive infotainment interface — with an update last year. To find out more about what it's like to live with the fourth-generation MDX for 20,000 miles, read our One-Year Road Test.
Which MDX does Edmunds recommend?
No MDX can match the value of the base trim, which comes well equipped with features such as a panoramic moonroof, heated front seats, and most of the safety tech available on any trim level other than the range-topping Type S. If there's flexibility in the budget, the Advance package nets most of the desirable goodies, including standard all-wheel drive for buyers in cold climates, without the significant markup of the Type S.

Nice car let down by abysmal build quality

2024 Acura MDX 4dr SUV AWD w/Advance Package (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
Pros: The handling, styling, seats, stereo, safety scores, headlights
Cons: The touchpad sucks with Apple CarPlay. With the Acura systems it is fine. The Build Quality is SO bad. Acura should be ashamed. I have had to bring it back for misaligned trim pieces right after buying, and every time I drive it there are new squeaks, creaks, and rattles from the interior. It sounds like a 10 … year old car going over bumps. "precision crafted" is a complete joke. Also the wireless charger is basically useless.
I am so frustrated in the constant rattling and creaking of the interior I do not know if I will be able to keep it. Whoever is in charge of QAQC at the factory needs to be fired. Make sure you do a long test drive the exact vehicle you may be buying on rough roads with a keen ear and check all the panels and trim to make sure they are lined up right.
Wire harness/whiney noise/rough shift

2025 Acura MDX 4dr SUV AWD w/A-Spec and Advance Packages (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
This is our 3rd Acura MDX. We have had the wire harness replaced/“repaired” 3 different times so far. Every warning light on the dash was on and many extra and/or safety features would not work while the lights were on. Since the last replacement we haven’t had any lights on the dash come on. HOWEVER. We have the annoying whiney noise around 45-50 mph, our map is super glitchy and zooms … all the way out anytime navigation instructions are given- and the voice has glitched out a couple of times. Sounded like a CB radio giving instructions. We’ve had scraping noises in the wheel wells several times and were told it was pebbles or stones getting stuck (how?!), when my husband drives the car with his key (driver 2) and then I go to drive it (with my key- driver 1) it doesn’t reset to my key fob specifications. The only way I can “reset” it is to step outside the car lock it and then unlock it and start the car again. There have been several other really random, odd, and annoying small issues. This should not happen on any vehicle, but especially on a brand new vehicle! We are about ready to take it back and get a totally different brand. I’m an Acura girl. This is my forth Acura in my lifetime (first car was an Integra and then 3 MDX) and I am a loyal buyer, but I’m super disappointed and frustrated that the dealership looks at us like we’re idiots when we try to address the issues.
So far so good!

2024 Acura MDX 4dr SUV AWD w/Advance Package (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
Driving and configuring my wife's new MDX… So far so good!
Excellent finish and interior quality. The car feels solid and is very quiet inside. No rattles, no squeaks, the only abnormal sound I can hear is the jingling of the metal ring on the key fob laying in the door top pocket.
Driving mode is easy to switch using large knob in the center console, no need to stop and drill into the … menu options like on new Lexus RX. Sport mode eliminates any feelings of insufficient engine power (at expense of the gas mileage, that's for sure), no jerking transmission then either. With about 4000 miles on it, transmission feels silky smooth.
The sound system is excellent! The infotainment system with its touchpad is fine - no finger smudges on the screen. BTW, the screen panel quality is way better than the one on new Lexus RX. High contrast, deep black, and no way to get sun glare anywhere near. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto – all work like a charm. Default Acura's navigation is actually not that far behind, giving the choice of seamlessly switching between at least 3 navigation systems at any time during the driving (Acura's, Apple/Google Maps, or Waze in my very modest setup).
Engine stop/start is annoying, but there is a way to control it with the brake pedal pressure – light pressure prevents engine from shutting down.
Not sure what those rich folks with $60k+ cars are complaining about gas mileage. It's not a city commuter's car. I'm seeing 26-27 mpg cruising on the highway. It doesn't require premium fuel, that's additional 20% fuel economy for you.
Driver assist features are all good and very usable. I only don't get why would Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) need to be that sensitive and require periodic "proof of presence", literally makes me shake the steering wheel a bit every several minutes. I hope Acura will relax this "rule" with the future software update, …please.
So far, squeaking brakes were the only complaint to the service department. They replaced rear pads and the squeaking gone.
Sunroof won’t close all the way

2024 Acura MDX 4dr SUV AWD w/Advance Package (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
We recently bought the 2024 MDX base advance . The car was used but certified through Acura. We noticed less than 24 hrs after buying the car that the sunroof wasn’t sealed. Air was coming in . Then we noticed water stains on the headliner. We took it back to the dealer and they said it was fixed . On the way home we realized it wasn’t fixed. The dealer is coming Monday to pick the car … up from our home. They also offered “ to cancel the deal and refund my money”. We shall see. However, it’s a sharp looking and driving suv. We test drove many other brands and this was the over best in our opinion . The car could use a little more power. In sport mode it does move . It’s a solid feeling suv. Handles better than our old 2023 xc90 . It’s smoother too. If the sunroof isn’t fixed we are giving the car back.
We have a limited number of reviews for the 2026 Acura MDX, so we've included reviews for other years of the MDX since its last redesign.
