Wow... thanks for the post. I was actually in the market for a new Boxster, the Spyder to be exact. (Getting rid of my tank, a 2008 BMW 7 Series). Like all my cars, I was considering getting used too. But I always search the Net for issues cars have and also to see how the manufacturer and dealer backs up the car, expecially on major design defects (such as the ... Read More
I have owned a 2003 Boxter since 2006 and I am looking for a newer model since I have over 85,000 miles on her. I have had NO problems with this car other than a electrical failure that cost me $500.00. I have driven the car from Houston to Seattle and through out the west coast and have loved the experience of owning one. Go for the Porsche you will love ... Read More
$42K sounds like a lot for an '06 S in this current economy. I've been price shopping Boxsters since the summer and have posted dozens of Porsches and their prices on my blog. http://mannyljr.typepad.com/lizardslair/ My current front page is a list of Best in Price for Boxsters 2005 - 2008. It's mostly based on autotrader.com, plus a little Ebay. I have a 2006 S with 22K miles on my list for ... Read More
Hey Guys, Kicking around the idea of a used Boxster but I have read that the Boxster engine has a fatel mechanical flaw and can 'let go' requiring complete engine replacement @$10,000+ a pop (out of warranty , of course) - any truth to this? If so was this corrected in the 2006 and later Boxsters? Thanks for any advice on buying a used Boxster - was 2006 the last year ... Read More
I was in a relatively minor accident when a person backed into my 2006 Porsche Boxster S. They are at fault and the accident happened in Georgia and their insurance company is State Farm. I bought it last year brand new from a dealer for $47,500 and live in Florida where it is being repaired. The total damage is only $1,600 (based on estimate - however could be higher). I know ... "I am not hearing the large discounts you mention from dealers I have visited - perhaps your experience was related to the big difference between the selling price of the 911 vs Boxter?" Actually, when I was shopping (summer/fall 2005), the 997 model 911 was "hot" and the DC area dealers were hardly dicoounting. I got a new 2005 in September, as the 2006's were incoming for $10k off MSRP from ... Read More
I am more familure with BMW leases, and what amount BMW will allow said dealer to mark up the MF ect.. Perhaps our host can advise if Porsche has any such policy ? And fwif very clean '02 are going for high 20K to 30ish. I concur with the above opinion on take the great discount on a purchase. DL
I don't understand those lease numbers as well. I am in NY and awaiting my base Boxster with SPP, nav and Ipod connection . MSRP was ~$54000 and I got $4k off that and my lease is $722/month for 36/12k. I don't understand how your lease is around the same for essentially $9k off of this one unless the leasing issues are slightly different in CA. BTW, this is my first ... Read More
No personal disrespect to sranger, but I am not sure where he is coming from with his figures. If a 1 year old Boxster depreciated $20-$30k, Porsche would be out of business tomorrow, given the percentage that are leased through Porsche leasing. While any new car depreciates significantly in the first few years, Porsches fare pretty well. Kiplinger, in their December Personal Finance magazine, lists the estimated 3 year residual of ... Thanks for your help..i am glad to hear a second opinion on this. Prior to the boxster, i've purchased all my cars cash as well and the only reason i was considering leasing a porsche is the fact that i won't keep it for more than 3 yrs. I guess i will definitely consider purchasing again instead.
I've never leased a car, so I'm not sure if it's a decent lease deal given money factors, residual values and all that stuff. By paying cash for all of my cars, I know I can comfortably afford them. But I done gone to business school and understand about opportunity cost of putting out $43,500 up front (or substantially more for a 911 S Cabriolet). So here's my complete analysis: 1) ... Here you go, cdrive2003. You never mentioned how long you want to lease this car for or what mileage allowance you need, so for now I will assume that you are interested in a 36 month lease with 15,000 miles per year. Let me know if you want something different. Porsche Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2006 Porsche Boxster ... Read More
Thanks for the additional information, gmanmd. OK, according to my calculations if you were to lease a base 2006 Porsche Boxster with a manual transmission, an MSRP of $53,990, and a selling price of $49,095 through Porsche Credit right now for 36 months with 10,000 miles per year, your zero down, pre-tax monthly payment should be around $754. Hi Car_man, Can you please provide November 2006 money factor and residual value for a 2006 Porsche Boxster S Manual? I forgot to mention 15K/36 months. Thanks in advance.
Car_man It's pretty impressive that you know Porsche's buy rate and money factors. Where do you find all of this information?
Hi Car_man, Can you please provide November 2006 money factor and residual value for a 2006 Porsche Boxster S Manual? Thanks in advance.
Hi gmanmd. I would be happy to use Porsche Credit's actual lease program to estimate what your lease payment should be on this car, but in order for me to do so I need you to provide me with its full MSRP, including the destination charge. Let me know and I'll tell you what I think of this deal. Car_man Host Smart Shopper / Prices Paid Forums
Thanks porsche_fan. As you suspected, it appears as though the dealer you are working with is marking your car's money factor up. However, dealers do not have the authority to alter vehicles' residual values so the resid that you were quoted should be okay. Let's take a look. According to the latest information that I have seen, if you were to lease a 2006 Porsche Boxster (non-S) through Porsche Credit right ... Read More
I was looking to lease a Porsche Boxster base for 36 months, 10K mi/yr and the negotiated price for 2006 was $49095. He quoted me a monthly price of ~$780 with a down payment of $3200 (including taxes). He said I would probably have a better deal with the '07s as they have higher residuals and I would still get the same deal with him ($4k off sticker). I did not ... Read More

Really useful forum, Car_man! I am looking into a 36mo/15k mi/yr lease for a 2006 base Boxster (non-S) with stickshift. My local dealer quoted me a residual of 53% through Porsche Credit and a money factor of 0.0035. Car_man, Can you please provide November 2006 money factor, residual value, and estimate of monthly lease payment for a 2007 Porsche Boxster non-S with Tiptronic? MSRP including destination charge is $61,770 and purchase price is $57,504. I would appreciate quote for 12,000 mile and 15,000 mile lease. Thanks.
I'm glad that you like this forum so much, alex. If you were to lease a base 2006 Porsche Boxster S with a manual transmission through Porsche Credit tight now for 36 months with 10,000 miles per year, its buy rate lease money factor and residual value should be .00290 and 54%, respectively. At only $800 more than the 3.2 liter, 280 hp 2006 Boxster S, the 2007 with a 295 hp 3.4 liter engine and TPMS standard is a heck of a good deal, in Porsche terms. Do they really use break-in oil in Porsches? I don't ever own one yet but have been doing plenty of research as preparation. I thought it was a factory fill of standard Mobile 1. I finally test drove a boxster. I have to say, i usually am very dissapointed by test drives. I always expect greatness and find a very flawed vehicle, but i wasn't dissapointed this time. My best description was that it's like my bmw, only much more so. Very mechanical, super-solid, the handling was phenomenal, but it was quiet and compliant when it needed to be. At idle, the engine was inaudible, ... Read More
Hi kjwbmwm5. Just in case you're interested, here is the new January lease program for the 2006 Porsche Boxster. The residual value for an otherwise identical lease of an '06 Boxster with Tiptronic ... Read More
Hello Redvariable. That is an excellent lease money factor for this car. It is much lower than Porsche Credit's buy rate money factor for this car, so the dealer that you are working with must be running your lease through some independent bank. Porsche Credit's lease program is not very good, so it would not surprise me if and independent bank out there has a more attractive lease program on it. ... Read More

Hey soupstar. Unfortunately, Porsche hates to provide incentives on its products. It feels as though incentives only serve to hurt residual values / resale values and destroy brand image. They're right too. Porsche would rather cut production than provide incentives on its products. In 2004, the S2000 got a bump in displacement to 2.2 liters, so it has more torque at lower rpms and redlines at a more "tame" 8,200 rpm. So, although it may still be too edgy for your preferences, don't go strictly by the 2000 model. It didn't even have a glass rear window, which is an absolute must, IMO.
