  • Thanks for the Disco Information

I was thinking of upgrading from an extremely reliable 2001 Cherokee (not grand) sport 4x4 with 141,000 miles on her to a 2002 Disco II with 99,000 on it from a Land Rover dealer for an asking price $5,500. The Land Rover is a beautiful looking vehicle in great shape. I couldn't believe I could get this gorgeous $50,000 vehicle at such a reasonalbe price after only 8 years of service. ... Read More

Greetings, You have some very useful advice/knowledge to share... Thanks! :) I'm having a problem with my LR. I have a 2002 Land Rover Discovery II. Recently the "service engine soon" light came on. I took it to a local mechanic and they said I needed new spark plugs, wires, etc. so I had a 100K mile tune-up done which cost $760. I got 2 miles down the road and the ... Read More

  • Get the 2003.

Everything from the 2002 was improved upon in 2003 and 2004 models. They don't even call 2003 and 2004 Discos Disco IIs they are considered new Discoveries since there were so many improvments. The MPG for the 4.6 is about identical to the 4.0 in fact you will probably get better gas mileage out of the 4.6 cause you will not have to wind the motor up. Also the 2002 might ... Read More

These vehicles both represent the bygone Sullihul era. They both have the 4.6 engine and are the end of each line before the Ford/BMW influences (for better or worse). I think better since this seems to mean Land Rover will survive (evidenced by the new LR3 and Range Rover Sport) where other marquees have since fallen (MG Rover). After 20 years of Japanese "reliability" I purchased a new 2004 HSE7 and ... Read More

  • Land Rover Scheduled Maintenance and Warning Light

I recently bought a 2002 Discover II. The mileage is close to 30,000, which calls for the scheduled maintenance to be performed in order to maintain the warranty. Because it is so expensive to have the work done at the dealership I am having the mechanic that I have used for years to do the work at a fraction of the price. However, one thing that the owner's manual calls for ... Read More

Hi all. This is my first time posting on this forum, but I wanted to share some of my thoughts on the Disco II. My friend and I both purchased them around the same time. Let me start off by saying this is an awesome vehicle with capabilities beyond my expectations and nearly anyone else who has ever ridden in it. I have climbed mountains, driven through switchbacks in 1' of ... Read More

I just purchased a Disco II 2002 returned from a lease. The car dealer did not have a manual. Does anyone know if there is a pdf version anyware? When I press the hill decent button, I get the chime but no lights on the dash. I took it down a steep grade but nothing happened. Does it have to be a certain grade of decent? I already had it at ... Read More

I just recently had my 2001 BMW 330ci with a premium and Luxury package stolen (11 days ago) and not recovered as of yet. Looks like I need to replace. I fell in love with the Disco II after I bought mine two years ago, so here I am again. I have a few questions and a few responses. Q1: What is the reliability factor with this vehicle? • Also considering 99 Disco II

    Written by: m32thomp on Apr 8, 2002 7:06:03 AM

Hi, I am also considering a certified 99 Discovery II SE through a Land Rover dealer that has 21000 miles. It looks great but I am a little concerned by the previous information listed on this site. Has anyone experienced a "knocking" when they put the gas on? I test drove a 99 at CarMax and a LR dealer and both had some sort of "knock". I did not hear the ... Read More

The 03 Discovery II will have no more BMW parts than any other Discovery II. The chassis and suspension are identical to the 99-2002 models. The engine used is the 4.6 version of the same engine that powers it now (previously used in the 4.6 Range Rover). This is not a BMW engine, just another version of the pushrod engine used in all the earlier models. The new Range Rover is ... Read More

Well, my wife and I visited Land Rover of Stevens Creek here in San Jose, Ca. Checked out the new 2002 Disco II SE and fell in love. They had a Vienna Green in the display room which most likely will be my color of choice. I was very pleased to know that the '02 SE now come with the 18" wheel package without having to pay the ACE premium. :) ... Read More

Needing a Land Rover fix, as I await the delivery of the 2002 Discovery's, "02 Discovery" was on the prowl again. This time a "dart" to the map landed us at a land Rover dealership in New Jersey. The salesman, who I will call "John" was truly a fan of the Land Rovers which he sells. A most enjoyable visit to a fully equipped Land Rover Center. No pressures, just honest ... Read More

Thanks to tincup47 for that offline comments on the Disco... I was going to wait for the 2002 Disco, but since there are no major changes over the 2001 I decided to purchase a 2001 model. I'm glad to say that I am now a proud owner of a Blenheim Silver Disco II SE7 with ACE -- $39.5 plus TTL and 4.9% financing/60 mths. I strongly recommend using the X-Plan if ... Read More

The 2002 Discovery has the same ZF transmission that all the Discovery Series II's have had. There hasn't been time to do any major changes to any of our vehicles. I find it amazing how people think major changes to vehicles can happen so quickly. Ford has owned Land Rover for 13 months, and their sole focus has been in upgrading facilities and learning Land Rover's processes to best see how ... Read More

Would this imply that Land Rover recalled the SUV for some Major Reason and the Owner may or may have not taken the SUV in for service? I feel good about the millage and really don't have a problem with the fact that the SUV is a 1998 versus 1999,2000 2001 etc. For the price, performance and quality for some reason I feel better about purchasing a used Range than a ... My wife and I intend on purchasing a 2002 Land Rover Discovery II. We have been doing our homework and have test driven 5 Discoveries. I noticed right away that each vehicle had it's own personality. Despite all of the negative stuff we read, our hearts are still leaning towards a Discovery purchase. My question is about the rear air conditioning option. If I purchase the rear air conditioning option, what ... Read More
